    • Dooley's Notes: For Honor

      Jeremy

      Hey guys!

Another game review coming at you!  This time I'm looking at For Honor.  This is my second time typing this whole thing, as the first one got deleted when the window closed.  Damn.  Anywho, For Honor came out last week and is the biggest release in quite a while.  A lot of people got the chance to play the beta, but now you might be wondering whether or not to pick up the full game.  My answer is... well, it depends.  Let me explain.

First off, let's talk about the gameplay.  You play as one of 12 heroes, which you need to unlock through the in-game currency.  It doesn't take an extremely long time to build that stuff up between matches and bounties, but still, be prepared to spend real money if you want something right away.  There are three factions, vikings, samurai, and knights, all of which have light and heavy classes, and a few inbetween.  The light characters of each class all play very similar to one another, and so on with each class.  They each have slightly different abilities, though, so be prepared to practice with every one before finding your favorite.  Most of the gameplay comes from sword combat.  You lock onto an enemy, and can change your guard from right to left to top.  If they attack from the left and you're guarding to the left, you block it, and same with the other directions.  There is also rolling, dodging, guard-breaking, throwing, and abilities that add more variety than just that.  The sword hits are meaty and the executions are awesome.  The gameplay is ridiculously fun.  The match-type with the most players is dominion, which works like a typical territories match.  There are 3 points, the more you have, the faster you gain points.  Get to 1000 points and the other team doesn't get any more respawns.  Kill them all during that time and you win.  There's a bit more to it than that, but that's the basics.  There's also a deathmatch, and 1v1 mode which are pretty fun.  And all of these modes can be fought against AI to practice.

On to the campaign... well... what campaign?  I equate the For Honor campaign to the one from Titanfall 1.  It was the exact same gameplay as multiplayer, with a few different things thrown in, and a vague story.  It gets repetitive, and the story isn't incredible.  If you're looking for an amazing single player experience, don't try to find it here.  Sorry to sound harsh, but this is a multiplayer game.  Get in there and play against people for the best experience.

Now, what did I mean when I said "it depends" at the beginning?  Well, there's two different ways to play this game.  One is with a group of friends, where you communicate and plan attacks, and the other is to go in solo with strangers.  If you go in with a team, you will dominate.  Communication is huge in this game, because teaming up on a hero means they are in a horrible position.  A team of level 1 characters can easily destroy prestige enemies if they have proper communication.  Which is a good thing, because the game has no level matching system.  If you're new, prepare to fight people who have been playing for a long time.  This is because level is based on each individual character, not overall, which isn't selected until after matchmaking is complete.  That's an issue, but not horrible if you get some practice in against the AI first.  The big issue is if your team has no communication.  You will absolutely get frustrated and lose interest in the game if the enemy team is working together, and the people you've been matched with don't stick together, or seem to not know what they're doing.

The other issue I have with the game is a certain mechanic.  It's the throwing/charging ability.  Every character can do it, but the heavy heroes are the best for it, especially because their charge covers a large distance.  Shield-breaking is an awesome ability and adds a lot of depth to the game, while throwing seems to eliminate a lot.  The reason is, there are several places in the maps where you can be thrown off a cliff, and it is an instant unrevivable kill.  Not to mention certain maps have thin walkways over these cliffs leading to the capture point.  A lot of people will make the whole "you gotta git good" argument, but I'm sorry, that doesn't fly here.  I've done the throw on enemies.  I've seen three people get thrown from one tower within seconds of each other.  I've seen giant knights camp the end of a thin walkway, and charge down it when you try to cross, with no way to dodge.  It takes away from that amazingly fun gameplay that For Honor has.  I like the addition, but not how often it happens.  If it were something you saw once every few games, that'd be great.  Like, "Wow, I can't believe I was set up to throw him and it worked!"  A case of wrong place-wrong time for the person thrown.  That would add depth and something to keep in the back of your mind.  Not a main fear.  The maps just have wayyyy too many places that this can happen, so it's a constant threat to immediately end a fight when you should just be having fun and battling.

Overall, if you have a group of friends to play this game with and talk to while you're playing, I highly recommend you get it.  If you plan on playing alone, I might think twice.  It's still fun, but be prepared to be frustrated often when playing against communicating teams, and yours isn't really sure what its goal is.  Also, I don't see this game being very new-player friendly for very long.  It has a definite learning curve, and with the low number of maps, tricks for each will be learned quickly.  With the lack of a level matching system, it will be extremely hard for new players to jump in further down the road and actually enjoy their time.  I want to point out, I only criticize the game so much because I really like it.  I'm just warning people who might not have the same set-up that I do.

I think For Honor deserves an 8 out of 10, just please... try to play with friends for the best time possible.

    • Dooley's Notes: Watch Dogs 2

      Jeremy

      Hey guys!

Another game review coming at you!  This time I'm looking at Watch Dogs 2.  This game is a follow up to possibly one of the biggest flops Ubisoft has ever had.  I personally played very little of the first game before I got bored and just didn't move on.  There was anything there to really hold my attention.  Luckily, Watch Dogs 2 is an entirely different story.

Watch Dogs 2 is set in an extremely lively and faithful reconstruction of San Francisco.  That's the first point I want to hit.  A lot of games talk about being in a city that feels alive, but this is one of the first games that actually made me feel that way.  I saw a drunk person walking down the street, bump into another drunk person, causing the two of them to wildly swing at each other before falling down and shuffling away.  Other interactions like that happen constantly and more often than not, you'll never even see them.  The setting is beautiful, and the parkour usually feels pretty smooth, so getting around the city isn't too hard.  There's also a handy app that allows you to call in cars you've purchased whenever you want so you can get on your way.  A negative of this, however, is the game doesn't really handle spawning the car very well, and will sometimes drop it very far away, or even in the middle of a hostile area. There's also a fast travel system, which really helps.

Onto the gameplay.  The story is linear, but has a ton of side missions to do along the way that you can constantly find while out in the city.  There's also a ton of extra things to do that I think gives the game a lot of end game content, if you're someone who likes to collect everything.  Hidden vehicles, upgrades, cash drops, and stuff like that.  The story itself is pretty decent.  The main flaw is the gameplay does feel repetitive after a little while.  Almost every mission is "sneak into this place, hack some stuff, most likely get caught, and then shoot your way out."  There is some variation every now and again, but it mostly boils down to that.  The hacking is very fun, especially hacking cars, and it actually makes you feel pretty powerful.  The drone races, bike races, and gokart races are okay, but also get repetitive, and the sailboat races... well just aren't for me.

Then there's the mutliplayer.  It's a little wonky, and didn't work quite right. But I believe recent updates have improved it.  It's a drop-in, drop-out system that you can turn off at any time (which I appreciate).  People can jump in and play missions with you, or can jump in and try to hack you.  The hacking game is the least successful part of the multiplayer, unfortunately.  You're supposed to invade another game, find the player, hack their phone, and then hide somewhere nearby until the hack is complete.  However, it's a pretty small area, and you stick out like a sore thumb if the target happens to stay in an unpopulated zone.  If they identify you, you're screwed.  It's very difficult for the hacker to get away with it.  The most successful multiplayer is the Bounty Hunter mode.  Essentially, if someone is being chased by the cops, your game will ping you asking if you want to join the officers to take them out.  You can then try to hunt down the other player.  At the same time, if a hunter is called on you, you can try to take them out and escape the cops, or just escape everyone all together.  It can be pretty fun.  And again, it's all completely optional.  (Unless you want all the achievements of course).

So the negatives here.  Slightly repetitive gameplay.  Not the best connection multiplayer-wise.  Some achievements are glitched.  And most of all, the cops are very very irritating.  Losing the cops in GTA V is a bit of a hassle, right?  Well in this game, it's downright annoying.  Unless you have a lot of hacking upgrades, it's almost always worth getting out of the car, getting gunned down, and just ending the chase before it begins.  There's also some puzzles that can be far too time consuming, like driving a scissor-lift down three blocks just to get to some rooftop.  However, those are all pretty minor things when looking at the overall experience.  I highly recommend Watch Dogs 2 to anyone who is a fan of games where you can just drive around doing little side missions and wasting time.  There's even a version of Uber you can do, in which you drive around some people with very odd requests.  Or a selfie app where you need to take photos in front of famous SF landmarks, earning XP along the way.  There's just simply a lot to do if you feel like doing it.  In my opinion, it's a great game to just sit and play for a couple hours if you're bored, and could last you a very long time.  I think it's a game that earns a 60 dollar price point.

I give Watch Dogs 2 an 8 out of 10!

    • Dooley's Notes: Titanfall 2

      Jeremy

Hey guys, (sorry about any typos. I'm sure I missed something)

Think it's time to do a round of game reviews, as I enjoy giving my 2 cents on the games I buy, so people who don't purchase games as often know what they're paying for. I'm starting this batch off with Titanfall 2.

Titanfall was one of the flagship games for the Xbox One, and a lot of people were pretty pissed about its exclusivity.  But no worries, Titanfall 2 is now available for all new gen systems. So that's pretty awesome.  More people can play, which I'm pretty happy about, because Titanfall 2 is an amazingly fun ride.

Let's start off with the single-player.  The Titanfall 2 single-player campaign is something I waited way too long to dabble with, after hearing nothing but good things. For people who don't know, the original Titanfall shipped as a multiplayer only experience.  Which was a relatively new thing for console players and therefore, left a few people feeling like the entire game wasn't worth 60 dollars.  Well their first attempt at a campaign is, pretty close to, perfection.  It doesn't feel overly difficult or frustrating at any point.  There are a few collectibles scattered throughout.  (Not insanely difficult to find).  And most importantly, it's fun.  It's just plain fun.  Shooting, using all types of weapons, utilizing the awesome movement system.  It's a linear campaign that is plan a simply a good time.  The thing I enjoy the most about it, and that I often don't try out all the weapons in multiplayer, because I find assault rifles to be most effective 90% of the time.  But in campaign against AI, you're free to try out all the weaponry and see everything the game has to offer.

Now on to the multiplayer.  Titanfall 2's multiplayer is very much like the first, which a few more gadgets scattered in there.  Like the grappling hook, which is the most fun in my personal opinion.  Titanfall does something brilliant, which is adding NPCs into the fight.  That way, even if the other team is destroying you, you feel like you're helping by taking out their armies.  That's the thing about Titanfall multiplayer as well.  You will get destroyed if you're new to it.  People play Titanfall religiously.  So try not to get discouraged if you have to endure a few rounds with little to no kills.  You'll get the hang of it.  The best part of Titanfall is definitely the movement system.  Wall running, double-jumping, and even the grappling hook all work so smooth and seamlessly.  Something I think even Call of Duty hasn't nailed down. You want to get somewhere on the map and you can pretty much just do it.

Now, the negatives I personally find with the game are the titans themselves.  There used to be a level of danger associated with walking around in a tItan, as enemy pilots could pose a massive threat if you didn't have backup. Instead of ripping off a panel and damaging a titan you've mounted like in the first game, you now grab a shield core out of it, which you can then implant into a friendly Titan.  You can then jump back on after dismounting to cause damage.  I personally wish you had the option of doing one or the other, as the Titan now knows you're there and will go on the offensive before your second attack.  The shield core is also useless if no friendly titans are currently up.  Also bad for pilots, is the titan smoke, which received a buff from the first game.  Titans can deploy an electrified smoke to damage pilots that are mounting them.  In the first game, this killed the pilot after quite a while, so they could get a hit or two in, but then had to run.  In Titanfall 2, it is extremely deadly.  If you're not out immediately, it's all over.  I just like the rodeo mechanic so much, I guess I personally feel that weakens its effectiveness and makes standing far away with a titan weapon much more viable.  Not something I think you should advocate in such a high-paced thrilling game.  I also personally feel like there are so many titan variations and weapons, that it seems overwhelming to try and learn them all, but variety is what keeps games interesting, so I mark that one off as a "just me" thing.

All-in-all, Titanfall 2 is a very fun experience.  They know how to make a multiplayer game fun and action-packed.  The campaign is extremely fun, although not a very long experience. If you're into mutliplayer, I definitely recommend picking this up.  If you're not, I still recommend it, but maybe wait for the price to drop a little.

      I give Titanfall 2 an 8 out of 10!

    • Camp Camp Rap Rap Lyrics

      Jeremy

People have tried to make lyric videos for the Camp Camp Rap Rap, which I appreciate, but I'm gonna clear up anything that you missed. Here's the actual lyrics to the rap.

You never seen nothing like this before

When the lights in the house crash down
With the sound of respect and pride
      For east side
      Where the motherfuckers
      Try to slide a ride
And find out it's the turn of the tide
So keep it real if you feel what the fucking deal has dropped
Gunshot that will stop your motherfucking heart like

      BOOM
      When I enter the room
And see the stage start to shake
      And quake
I'm gonna motherfucking break this house down
Bring it back to the floor
      Fucking begging for more
Till I score like a pedal
      Pushing down through the metal
Causing trouble in the treble when the
Bass is racing to a too fast
      Motherfucking pace

      This is the time
      Not their time, our time
      Mother fucking time to shine
Like a diamond buried in the shit
Of a prick, legit still picking through
The ashes left by the sick
      Unwell hellbent spellbent
      Thinking time is well spent
On these raps we all fucking resent
      Making what you can't
Like a can of canned plans
      Jumbled up
      Bundled up
Like a mother fucking camp camp

When the lights in the house crash down

With the sound of respect and pride
      For east side
      Where the motherfuckers
      Try to slide a ride
And find out it's the turn of the tide
So keep it real if you feel what the fucking deal has dropped
Gunshot that will stop your motherfucking heart like

      Prepare for the future
      A new revolution
      It's cool as blue
So called the motherfucking crew like
      Hey
      Reaching out saving the day
      Like a superman
      Swoopin in
      Taking out who's stooping in
      The murder of rap
      As an art of fact
      Like an artifact
      We're all taking back
It's the end of of era
      Like a lyrical terror
      Being put down
      Shook down
      Bringing back the talent now
      It's time to remember
      Who's here to surrender
A motherfucking wave of shit is gonna end here

It's time to strike. It's time to rise
And realize it's the turn of the tide
It's time to strike. It's time to rise
And realize it's the turn of the tide

Bitch motherfucker stay away from me
Take a hit from this motherfucking symphony
Pop pop that's the sound it'll make when you drop
      Mother fuckers rolling out
      Go to bitch jail

    • Dooley's Notes: Recore

      Jeremy

      Hey guys.

Haven’t posted a game review on here in a long time, and I really wanted to start doing that more often, so let’s start again.  Let’s talk about Recore.  This game just released on the Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, and was featured at E3, meaning people were pretty excited for it.  I’ve put many, many hours into this game, and here’s my review.  Hopefully it will help you decide whether or not to pick the game up.

My initial advice is… don’t.  Don’t purchase this game for 40 bucks.  (EDIT: Woops. I originally said 60, I was wrong)  Wait for the price to drop if you’re genuinely interested.  The fact is, Recore is just another game that fell victim to the mentality of “This was fun for the hour or two I played it, why wouldn’t it be fun for the rest of the game?”  Well, here’s an explanation of why this doesn’t work, especially in Recore.

Let’s start with the gameplay.  It’s a large map, filled… and mean FILLED… with platforming.  Dashing, double jumping, and mantling across a big desert planet.  Enemies will pop out of the ground and attack you, which you can either kill for spare parts, or rip out their core to add it to your own drones.  There are dungeons, with different hidden loot and challenges, and some bigger story-based missions.  If you want to know how this game played, imagine a combination of Borderlands and Lego game, except remove the good aspects from both of those.  By that I mean, remove the very rewarding loot and easy fast travel mechanics from Borderlands, and remove the quick character switching ability from Lego.  The game has one weapon, with two modes of fire.  It has two types of jumping ability.  It has three total upgrades for your gun, all of which are the same, but a different color.  Basically, you as the main character, are boring.  Your gun levels up when you kill enemies, and your gun level IS your level.  You shoot at one of about 6 different enemies, that only get more health with level ups, no new abilities, and you do it over and over and over again.  This rewards you with parts and orbs that you can use on your bots to make them kill these same enemies faster.  Until of course they get to a higher level and then drop better loot so you can make better bots.

Then there’s the dungeons.  Some are fun, and slightly newer ways to play, but most are the worst thing to happen to video games in a long time… time trials.  No one likes time trials.  No one likes restarting a 5 minute process, because a single enemy took too long to kill three minutes into a giant fight.  Most of the dungeons are built this way.  Complete the objective, get a key, and trigger 8 color-coded switches in a certain amount of time, and you’ll be rewarded with robot armor that is probably worse than what you’re already using.

The best part of the game is the bots you have with you.  You start with an awesome dog robot named Mack.  Then you slowly add to your arsenal with friendly versions of almost all your enemies.  Each one has their own abilities, like running on tracks, destroying barriers, or gliding off geysers.  While this is fun at first, what you soon realize is that 90% of the time, these abilities are solely used to grab any of the hundreds of collectibles hidden in the game.  This game quickly turns into a grinding hunt for everything on the map.

Now let’s talk about the worst part of the game, the neverending loading times.  On Xbox, the loading times can go on for around 2 minutes, and they happen constantly.  There are very few fast travel stations spread around the giant map.  Usually the closet station to something you need is in a dungeon, but think twice about fast travelling there.  You’ll have to wait for the load time, then load into the dungeon, open the door, and exit… triggering another load time.  And about those bots that were really fun at first, well you can only hold two at a time.  And also, you can only have three powered at a time.  Meaning if you are out and encounter a rock that needs to be smashed, but don’t have the right bot, you need to then get to your nearest fast travel station, and switch to that robot in order to go back and smash the rock.  What if the core from your rock-smashing bot is in another bot?  Then you’re screwed.  You need to return to your home base, switch the core to your rock-smasher, fast travel back to the closest spot, then go back to the rock.  You do all this, suffer through all the load times, only to smash the rock, get a collectible, and then encounter a track that only your spider-bot can climb… which you just deactivated to get your rock-smasher.  Prepare to do all of that over again in order to collect everything.

In short, Recore is repetitive, slow, tedious, and not very polished.  If you’re someone who needs to perfect their games, definitely stay away from this one.  If you’re someone who is looking for a way to kill a couple hours, then this game might be for you when it drops in price.  In the meantime, my recommendation… skip over this one.  I give Recore a 4 out of 10.

Hey jeremy, here's an idea you and Matt can make into a 5 part minecraft let's play, a 3d maze where it's shape is a cube and it can be like a battle royale where 6-8 people can play (6 for the faces of the cube, 8 if they start at the corners) the goal isn't to kill each other but to steal from each person's base wool but killing is allowed, but 1 can only collect 1 wool at a time to return to their base to be dropped into a chest which is only accessable from the outside of the cube so that there can be a judge.

Or the goal of the game is to kill others but every player must carry their piece of wool before leaving their "Safe rooms". though i think spawn camping shouldn't be allowed, it may be if that player has only 1 wool left

I recently revisited your personal YT channel and had the lovely opportunity to listen to two 1551 songs. They are fantastic. What I enjoyed even more (within the comments) was the origin of the name, and the difficulties of working that way. (Trying not to give away the origin of the name.)

Some of my internet friends are some of the best people around. And I feel like my friends I have around me don't get that. "Internet is dangerous" bullshit. The internet is kickass. Just gotta find some kickass people.

So I have to ask... is Megacraft officially cancelled? I've assumed that it is, but its status says "Still in Production" so I figured I'd ask JDoolz himself. I loved watching it, and I submitted a map to it. If you guys ever think about reviving the series, I've got a great submission you should consider *wink* *wink* *nudge* *nudge*.

  • Questions answered by Jeremy

I'll only give you the repeated part

You never seen nothing like this before

When the lights in the house crash down

With the sound of respect and pride

    For east side

    Where the motherfuckers

    Try to slide a ride

And find out it's the turn of the tide

So keep it real if you feel what the fucking deal has dropped

Gunshot that will stop your motherfucking heart like

They bring up some interesting points. I like people who create their own lore behind popular stories to explain things. I'm cool with the way they've described a Voltorb. Sounds like something that is angry all the time and hates stuff.

We knew it could be done better. Matt, myself, and the rest of the build team had been talking about Creeper Soccer X since we started. We knew it had potential to be really funny if done correctly.

    Currently around 175 lbs

Just kind of repeat the key word over and over until it just kind of becomes sound instead of meaning, and then see where that would fit in a sentence. Like when I was with Gavin I said 'nose' a bunch, which I knew was like "knows" so I thought of a phrase that included that with Knows No Boundaries.

Blocking Gavin when he tried to jump onto the slime blocks was pretty funny

I like to sit down and look at photos and videos people posted from the event. It's very relaxing to see how much fun people had over that chaotic weekend. On a normal day when I need to relax, I go for a late night walk while listening to music

We play games we like when there's nothing of a higher priority to film. GTA, Minecraft, and any new releases take priority over games we simply enjoy, unfortunately.

There's unfortunately nothing she can really do but ignore it until it goes away. It never truly ends in Achievement Hunter. If you weren't in the original 6, you're fucked.

Yes. We did a TTD in GTA V, an Imaginary Achievement, and a few Megacraft episodes. Same thing with Trevor.

    Adelitas Way

    Three Days Grace

    Otherwise
    Breaking Benjamin

    and maybe Papa Roach

Well if you want it sooner rather than later, get the Slim. Also keep in mind the Scorpio has been announced price-wise. Chances are it's gonna be at least twice as expensive.

No. I don't think the RT/AH comments will ever get better. The only way to end negativity like that is to not let it begin in the first place.

Yes. It's by far the worst part of my job at AH. The only thing I ever work for in my job is entertaining the fans. Making people smile, laugh, and just forget whatever might be troubling them that day. To be met with that response anytime I go into a comment section to see how people enjoyed the content is really demoralizing.

Saw some achievement guides for Star Wars the Force Unleashed when I first got an Xbox.

I like the Lads. Fun and unpredictable. I might be a gent in the fact that I have a house and wife and all that, but I still feel young like a Lad

Yes and no. Yes of course it's fun to play and work with others... but there's a lot of aspects to this job I really really dislike. The online fanbase is a big one. RT and AH have horrible fans that comment on youtube, reddit, and sometimes the site. 90% of RT fans are awesome, especially the ones at events, but the ones who release their everyday frustration on the comments are just horrible. And the way youtube and reddit work, their comments get pushed to the top because they are discussed the most. I don't bother reading video comments on anything but my personal channel anymore. There's other things too that come with the job that make it really not-fun, but it's work, it's not supposed to be fun. At least that's what I grew up being taught.

I mean, Michael plays some PS4 when a good new game comes out and I think Gavin plays at home sometimes. I don't think anyone else ever plays on PS.

I was writing a song about it, but felt my time could be better used elsewhere. That's why there have been 0 new songs from me at all in the last few months.

I've just seen Deadpool and Civil War. Definitely thought Civil War was better than Deadpool, and from the reviews I'm hearing, dont know if I want to see the other two

As far as I know, it's the guys playing Dungeons and Dragons. I know nothing about that game or how to play, and have not watched the first episode, but that's my vague understanding.

Scooter is a tabby cat. Booker is a short-hair black cat.

I wasn't part of the atmosphere before Ray left, so I couldn't answer that. As far as the other guys tell me, they're really happy with how the room currently is.

I approached Geoff a couple months after Ray left, letting him know if AH ever felt like they missed having a sixth person always ready to record, that I was available. About a month later, Geoff met with me outside the offices to talk to me about this again, and make sure it was a responsibility I was willing to take. We agreed on it, and fortunately, I had just won the Minecraft LP we did earlier, so it seemed like a good time to announce it at the end of that video.

I talked with Monty once before I worked at RT. Never again after that. Really admired the guy and his work, but never really spoke to him.

I honestly have no idea. I have never bought a set of sunglasses that were more than 20 bucks. I usually get them from like, kiosks in the mall or something...

Nah we usually got that covered. Also I don't usually ever need a designated driver. I drink a lot, but not a lot at one time. It's a super rare occasion that I'm drunk.

I have a strange feeling Geoff has some kind of hidden power that no one knows about.

LA was great. Went to the LA Zoo, the Grove, and a couple other places before the awesomeness that was Lets Play Live.

You can if you like, I give a shoutout to everyone who sends in something. I don't remember enjoying those energy drinks that much, but it'd be cool to see them again.

I like that you assume I actually know them

I mean, it's sad. Wasn't a die-hard fan of any of them, but still, a loss is a loss.

I was a brown belt in Kenpo. Instructed a few classes. But then I broke my leg playing football, and after I recovered was heading for college, so just never went back.
