So I finished basic training a little over a week ago and now I'm at Fort Benning waiting to class up for OCS. Basic was actually really easy and I've found that I'm much stronger, physically than I thought I was. While at basic I took a minute off my two mile time and my last pt test I ran a 15:12. Evidently I'm built for endurance running. Rucking is actually pretty fun, our last road march was 12.9miles when the requirement was only 10 miles. Basic was a pretty awesome experience, though living in a female bay and the whole battle buddy thing got old real quick.
Here while waiting to class up, I have my own room and I'm allowed to go anywhere within the battalion footprint by myself! It's been nice and I've been able to decompress and recollect myself. The downside is that while I'm waiting I've been put on different duties and details within the battalion footprint. As I write this I'm on a 12hr overnight staff duty shift.... It's about as fun as it sounds. I'm dying for my bed right now.

In other news I'm a guardian for RTX! I can't wait to see you guys there.

Anyway did anyone miss me while I was gone?

filling out divorce paperwork isn't exactly what I want to do the day before I leave for basic but such is life.

By this summer I'll be a free woman and a commissioned officer

This past week I was staying with some friends outside of DC and had a chance to do a little sight seeing (see images)
My normal when in DC are the Smithsonians, particularly the Natural History. However this time, given what I'm setting out to do in less than a week, I decided that it was time to see the monuments and memorials again. Though I had seen them before they struck a new cord this time. I guess life is all about perspective and mine has very much changed in the last year.

I also went to Arlington and saw the Tombs of the Unknown and got to witness the changing of the guard. The Tombs, especially the one for the 2,000 unidentified men from the civil war really hit a note. It has very much solidified for me that what I am doing is the right choice. In my career if I can even identify one fallen soldier and return their remains to their families than I have done something amazing for that family and had an impact.

I can't wait to see where this next year will take me and what life will bring me in 2015.

See, that's the trouble - I don't really know what constitutes a reasonable price. I mean, it's got to make it worth the time and effort it takes to paint them... but at the end of the day it's still a toy.

      'S tough.

No the first £100 was over an argument over which year the playstation came out.
The second £100 was about the spelling of "Kopf"

Hahaha what ridiculous topics to put money on!

oooh that's why Jonathan said I cost Gus £100 it was "kopf" not the arm wrestle lol. bets are always ridiculous when they're made while drinking. so did he pay up?

The worst part is when you're near them, and you got that same scary operatic music like the Monolith scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey. The closer you are to them, the louder the music gets, *shudder* I hate that.

Pretty sure it was just a live thing they did at the brits :3 If you haven't looked here it isss

Yeah i'm loving Rusko at the moment. Ghostpoet is really good for chilled out dubstep. But i love this song at the moment, some hip hop thrown in there too. Check it out if you get the chance, think you'll like it ^^

Sweet, i'm into mostly anything to be honest, Florence and the Machine have quite a good few songs. The one with her and dizzee rascal is pretty good! Listening to a lot of dubstep at the moment though, loving the bass xD

Yeah xD The chorus reminds me too much of an old song i remember hearing when i was younger though :P we're in heaven

Finally figured out who you remind me of with short red hair. Not that La Roux girl, Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby

If you haven't seen it, I'm sorry, but you give birth to Satan's child. Still, a haircut from Vidal Sassoon is a decent trade.

I'm with you on how strange Melancholia looks, and the theme and message you get from the trailer. Again, I'm sort of roped in.

One thing I wanted to mention in the journal was that it's directed by a man named Lars von Trier; I saw the previous film he did before this called Antichrist, and that was one of the most repulsive things I ever saw in my entire life.

I don't recommend it; watch your own risk.

Or just don't watch it at all, that I do recommend.

    • Fosseneuve

By the way; thanks for the encouragement on my previous journal, I appreciate it.

I see your point. (I assume) Amazon doing to Borders what Borders had been doing to small booksellers for years has a sense of karma about it. I just see actual bookshops as a lesser evil than supermarkets muscling in on the market. I dunno though. Hopefully Borders closing will leave room for smaller book stores to grow. Like when a tree dies in a forest, leaving a gap in the canopy for new shoots or some other bullshit metaphor.
