I love cooking, but I don't do it often enough. Because I didn't work last night I had the chance to make dinner for my family. I don't do this often because I am usually not home at dinner. Reaching into my small know-how of cooking I decided to make pasta. Fast forward 1 head of garlic, 1 onion, 1 jalapeno, many small tomatoes and 3 large chicken breasts; me and my family ate like kings. While I was making dinner I decided to try some dessert. Baking is one of my better hobbies, but I only do it when I get in the mood (like my other hobbies). So I found a recipe for a pumpkin cheese cake in the America's Test Kitchen cookbook. I like ATK but the recipes are so complex that I often over look them, but cheese cakes are complex anyway so I decided to go for it and see what came out. After several hours of putting everything together and the right time, temperature, and quantity (meaning how much at one time, yes ATK is that picky) I put my cake in the oven. An hour and a half later I brought the cake out and realized that I needed to continue using the ATK cookbook because the cake was perfect. The perfect look, aroma, and the slightest of cracking. This is why I cook, smoke and drink. For those times where everything comes together in perfect harmony and suddenly the world is in balance. Would that I could live this way forever.
In other news I just purchased a piece of Cocobolo that I intend to turn into a very pretty cane with a black glass top, and a bunch of small Cocobolo pieces for a chess set I plan on carving. Pics will follow when the project actually starts.
