Many years ago I did gametesting and other work for companies such as Broderbund Software, Lucasfilm Games, and Point of View Computing. After many years away from the industry I am trying to re-enter it. During this time away I used my testing and technical writing experience in my hobby as a GameFAQs contributor.
I have been doing that for nearly ten years. Most of my work has focused on the "Grand Theft Auto" game series but have done other games such as "The Chronicles of Riddick" and the "Hitman" series. I am trying to use this work as a portfolio to help me get to where I want to go.
Although I would very much like to return to LucasArts I am also turning my eyes toward Austin. I live in San Antonio so I am not far away. Being that Rooster Teeth is based in the Austin area and that some of the posters come from there I thought it would be a good idea to make this topic to try to glean some useful information about the Austin gaming scene and its related jobs.
In addition, being that my GameFAQs work is public, I am also looking for ways to professionally promote myself and my work in a way to catch the eyes of some of these companies. Based on my experiences with the LucasArts jobs site I realize that leaving a resume at the doorstep of a company may not be enough so I am looking for a way to maybe get some of them to knock on my door instead.
I don't know of anybody who has used their GFAQs work in this way so there are a lot of unknowns. But, because I put a lot of myself and my experiences into my work, I strongly feel that it can get me to where I want to go - I just have to figure out how.
