      He Lives In Us Forever.

      RIP K

Anyone who has talked to me knows that I love this band. Any chance I get to mention them I take, as they have always been under appreciated in my opinion. K was totally my inspiration for the music I'm writing right now. His passing is like it would be for a lot of guitar players if Eric Clapton died. I'm really saddened that this happened, and that I didn't find out until now. Please check out the Angelic Process if you have a minute. K's genius lives on in "Weighing Souls With Sand" an album that is certainly among the best I've ever heard.

To this journal entry really. I just felt like writing.

Things that are happening in my life:

      1. School vacation began today. I'm spending it visiting colleges and sitting on my ass.

      2. I have three songs done for my drone/post-rock/metal-ish project and about a million bits and pieces of songs. I can't tell what is more frustrating. The fact that I'm too lazy to record the songs, even though I think they are pretty good, or the little bits and pieces I can't make more songs out of.

      3. Is anyone else's May looking to be as crayzee as mine?

      4. I just watched August Rush. I give it a 6.8/10.

      5. I could have sworn I had more to write about.

    • I have decided...

      RedBull

That I'm going to cover this song with live instruments.

As far as music goes I'm getting organized. I've decided to start filing all the stuff I do that doesn't really fit anywhere under a collective name of Babylon Vines, because Special Pants wasn't really cutting it. Oddly enough, making that decision has made me write more random stuff, because now that I don't feeling like I'm straying from a path and the random stuff I write is actually for something, it feels less useless and more purposeful. I think it'll be fun to have stuff under this name running from post-rock to acoustic shit.

My Angelic Process/Nadja project is actually moving along as well. I've written one whole song, which is impressive for me, and everyday I keep coming up with more and more riffs and ideas for songs. I'm going to try to record the song I have finished soon, although I'm going to be buying the Axiom 25 I was looking at a while ago to round out the sound. So until then it'll have to wait, but I promise you it's awesome.

Also, Iz dat sum 3/4 and 5/4?

Yeah the title says it all.

Give a listen, give a criticism, whatever. I'm just happy that for once I actually completed something, drums bass, guitar and all.

Amazing what you can think of to do when you know you should be studying for midyears.

Gee, I wonder who I am ripping off this time? Not Battles and Russian Circles. No, never.

A lot of you wrote good journals while I was gone.

I read several of them, and commented on most. I rarely do that. Did you people all of a sudden get interesting while I was gone?

Spent the weekend in Maine at my friend's cabin. It was a good time. Can't imagine anyone else I could have lived with for 4 days and not hated them by the end of it. We watched Superbad which was funny for about 3/4 of the movie. The last part was a wee bit disappointing. Great acting though, really solid characters and such. Saw my friend that I hadn't seen since October in Boston on the way back.

Also I had the weird realization over the vacation. How fucking selfish can people be to deny wind farms because they look ugly? I mean really, my generation is going to have to deal with this shit, and they are concerned about how it's going to look. I know they don't generate a huge amount of power, but everything helps. I'm not trying to be inflammatory here (although I can't imagine many of you are Pro-Global warming) just stating my opinion.

While reading a Musician's Friend catalog:

Ooo, things on sale that I don't need but could possibly use. I want 3 of each.
Oh my god, Gibson Les Paul's are so pretty but...
....Let's be honest, you can really only afford these Epiphones
      Fenders are for faggots
Why do they put the Ibanez guitars at the end?
Wow, never heard of these guitar brands.
      Oh my god Pedals
      Pedals
      Pedals
      Can't afford pedals.
Can't afford a new acoustic flipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflip
      Oh shit hold on
      mmmmmm Ovations
      flipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflipbassguitarsflipflipflipflipflipflipflipflip
      Hello Kitty guitar straps, really?
I wish I could play the cello
When did drum kits get so expensive?
Jesus my drum kit is a piece of shit.
Some day I will buy that double pedal. Keep telling yourself.
Who reads these last 50 pages anyway?

Not sure why I wrote that but there you go.

Also, how have I missed out on Hella for so long?

Despite the rushed tempo, still a win song. Good stuff.

Rofl, so basically your standard liberal arts school with a decent psych program.

Hmm, I'm not sure if there's a specific "method" to Bard's teaching/education. I guess if I had to describe it, it's generally very hands-on and relies heavily on critical theory and thinking, which sometimes gets in the way of teaching from a practical standpoint that is going to actually help students career-wise once they leave Bard.

Bard isn't the greatest with helping their students prepare for careers that are actually going to make money. :|

Oh, okay. Have a pretty decent idea of where it would be.

What are you looking for in a school? What major are you considering going into? Why the lack of interest in Bard (Of course I could give you a million things wrong with this school but it's still a really good school overall)?

      Question question question?

    • Eclecticore no longer 25 cents

Oh man, Drew? Amanda was accepted there, but she can't afford the tuition and they're not giving her nearly enough financial aid, so that doesn't look like it's working out.

But if the situation were different, you two could have been going to the same school. XD

I applied to Ithaca and was offered I think a $28,000 scholarship. Didn't go though because the academics aren't up to snuff and it's so far away from home (at least compared to everywhere else). Haven't heard of Muhlenberg though. Where is it?

      Done and done.

I'm sure people misunderstand me a lot of the time as either not caring about them or not wanting to make friends or whatever. I just don't seem to know or am physically capable of opening myself up to these people in such a way as to show that I do care about their lives and that I want there to be deep connections made and such. I just can't seem to get to that point though. I'm nothing more than a casual friend to most people it seems like. If I left Bard forever, I don't think anyone in particular would be overwhelmingly sad to see me go or would actually end up missing me.

Gah, I can't write anymore of this. It's just going to put me deeper and deeper into this pit of despair I've set up for myself tonight. Anyway, I'm going to bed, so talk to you more about things some other time I suppose.

      G'night.

I +1 funny'd your comment because I didn't really know what else to give. Yeah, I dunno. It sucks because I feel like acadmemically things are going really well, and I'm enjoying my classes and work and I feel much less stressed about all of that. But now I just have all of this personal crap that's really getting me down and depressed. I've just been feeling really emotionally fragile of late, like the tiniest and stupidest shit will either set me off or make me want to lay in my bed and do nothing. Friday was a really bad day because I would have rather been on campus this weekend trying to relax and sleep and whatever rather than going away, and I got another e-mail from my mom that depressed me, and I was missing Amanda, and I was feeling generally shitty about myself like I was a worthless human being and such. I completely shanked my match when we arrived at Harvard Friday night because my mind was somewhere else the whole time, and then I had to ref my teammate's match, which was the absolute last thing I wanted to do considering how I was feeling. There were a bunch of calls I had to make, and people were getting angry at me because I wasn't being assertive with my calls or I was making the wrong calls, and I really just wanted to crawl into a hole and die. I finally got someone to take my place for the third game of the match because I couldn't take it anymore and I didn't want to be responsible for ruining the game. I walked out of the squash area into the indoor tennis court aread next door, found a tennis ball, sat in a hidden corner, and threw the ball against the wall to myself for like 10 minutes to help collect myself and just be alone.

God, I really typed a lot more than I intended. Sorry. Anyway, yeah, I'm sorry to hear you're feeling shitty as well. I would encourage you to find someone you can talk to, even if it isn't a professional and just someone to vent your feelings to who can listen and possibly offer up some type of advice. I'm a busy bee, but I'm also here a bunch of the time if you ever want to talk. We can both be all BAWWWWWWWWWW and tell each other we're acting dumb.

Keep your head up mang. <3

Yeah, I totally agree with you on the dialogue thing. The ending especially I had difficulty working around the lack of dialogue. The ending I came up with in the first draft worked around the silence better, but it made much less sense in the piece. I was more satisfied with the ending in the second draft, but if I did another revision of this script on my own, I would definitely add a bit of dialogue at the end and in a couple of parts in the middle.

Thank you for the input though. Hopefully you'll enjoy "Controlled" as much or more.

Also, baleeted your repeat comments for your own dignity.

It was the last song we played. Lance (guitar 2) had left by that point (and was fairly drunk, mind you). Rob (drums) and I were willing to keep playing, but Will (guitar 1) was a bitch and wanted to stop playing after that song, because he was "tired" (what a gay, right?). We still hadn't played "More Than A Feeling" or "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", so it sucked a little to not have played two songs we practiced a fair amount. =(
