      Dust 514

in Forums > Dust 514 | Follow this topic

Is anyone else as pumped for this game as I am? My friend plays EVE online and I'm so pumped to get in on the New Eden action. Not only that, but it looks to be exactly the kind of game I've always wanted to play.

      Link.

It's still far off, but the potential is so amazing... I may not need to play other games once this is released.

      The Replay

in Forums > The Replay | Follow this topic

Is there a thread for this? I've watched the first two episodes and am entirely fascinated by it.

      The Replay.

Two rival high school football teams played to a draw in 1993. 16 years later, Gatorade coordinates a rematch. Sorry if it's a dupe, but holy shit this is cool to me. I realize there's not much room for discussion since it looks like episode 5 may be the last one, but I just felt like sharing.

      Home Theater Turning Off

in Forums > Home Theater Turning Off | Follow this topic

Ok, so I just bought some 12 AWG speaker wire and hooked up all my speakers to my JVC THD-60. The wire was too thick for the receiver so I bought some pin connectors from Radio Shack, but I haven't put the connectors on the speaker-side of all the cables yet (only the sub). Now my problem is that whenever the receiver gets any audio, the whole thing just shuts off. I've gotten faint sound from my cable box, and the receiver shuts off if I try to turn it up.

I've figured out how to set my 360's optical audio output to Video 2, and when I try to play music it shuts off. I have no idea what the hell the problem is. I had to move it around while I wired all the speaker cables, is the receiver just broken?

      What do you guys think?

Thread I started in the Xbox.com Wish Lists and Feedback forum:

Make it a game console first. The media and non-gaming aspect can be worked on afterward from a software aspect. But make a solid, reliable, powerful gaming console for developers to use first and foremost. That should be priority number one. Hard drives in every model, the works.

Make it easier to provide player feedback after games. Require that every online game display an unobtrusive message reminding you to rate any noteworthy players who positively or negatively affected your game. Track each gamertag's rating history, including their history rating others, and their average rating above or below other users' averages (as in, you average being rated by others as 2 stars above the average ratings they give out), and track ratings be genre and specific games (or game series, if possible). Ratings could become a sort of matchmaking level where players who are fun to play with quickly gain above average ratings from other users, and people who simply 1-star everybody they meet have their votes lose impact.

Also, let us organize our friends lists by games. My Live friends list is almost full and I have almost no idea who plays which games, so I don't know who to invite when looking to start a party in a certain game. Add the option to message/invite all players on your friends list who have the game you're playing on their game history. Even give the option to only message people who've played the game within a certain timeframe. Going back to the original point, let us manually tag our friends as being part of a group for certain games. There's another thread here asking for personal notes to players on our friends list. I'd also like to go further by letting us add personal notes to people we avoid. I play NHL 2K9 and exploit abuse is rampant in the community. I'd like to know why I avoided a player, and if he's changed I'd like to be able to change the note. This would be huge.

Regarding controllers, I'd love a six face button (A, B, C, X, Y, Z), four shoulder button/trigger (the 360's shoulder setup is nice, but maybe add a click to the triggers like the Gamecube has), dual analog design would be ideal, IMO. Native support for 2D fighting games, more buttons that are all accessible for games, I have a PC controller with this layout and it works great. There should also be some storage in all controllers. I really thought this was going to be the Wii remote's secret feature where your controller really is your own, and you could save your profile with all of your settings and take it to a friend's house and jump right into the game. You could save controller profiles to your hard drive for easy replacement, also. Every game should also be required to allow complete controller customization. Absolutely ridiculous that this hasn't happened yet. MS should definitely force this next generation as it makes no sense to use a layout that isn't comfortable. I'd also like a return of a DC VMU-type of screen, but I'm just dreaming now. Don't think anybody expects anything like that...

Dual A/V output. What's not to love about a LAN party in a box? With this, include support for at least eight controllers per console. While I'm at it, every online game (save for MMOs) should support LAN play. Aside from the competitive aspect, there's just no technical reason not to. Also, any online rating system should be made available in games for LAN tournaments. I've always wanted to host a LAN where experience was gained like in Halo matchmaking. You could have a huge, free-flowing tournament where the winner (or at least the qualifiers for the final rounds) is determined by who has the highest level at the end of a given period. Level thresholds would have to be edited to allow for faster progression, but it'd be cool.

Just some thoughts, I really hope MS takes a look at them because any of them being implemented into the next Xbox (or even in a future firmware update for the 360) would be great. Thoughts?

      Horse Racing Game

in Forums > Horse Racing Game | Follow this topic

Ok, my wife and I played a bit of Derby Owner's Club at Dave and Busters but we're looking for a cheaper way to enjoy a horse racing game. Does anybody know of a good alternative to it for home consoles? PC will do, also...

I've found out about the G1 Jockey, Gallop Racer, and Winning Post series, but I can't find any details on what they're like or which one's closest to DOC. Anybody familiar with horse racing games that wants to help us out?

      Halo PC/Halo CE

in Forums > Halo PC/Halo CE | Follow this topic

So I just bought Halo PC (again) and played a few rounds. It was alright, but now I'm gonna be getting into playing Halo CE. I've already found a Metroid online mod and a Sonic mod, and I'm looking forward to finding some of the old maps I used to play before with a computer that won't hate me for it.

Anybody else have Halo PC installed that wants to start playing every once in a while?

I wish consoles had dedicated servers, but it isn't the norm like it is for PC gaming. Consoles are pretty closed in that sense, my guess being that it's easier to manage. Can you imagine some poor n00b joining a Halo 3 server full of hackers? lol

Custom game searching would be cool... have you played Battlefield: Bad Company 2? Their implementation of custom game searching is fantastic! If I feel like it, I can get on there and play my favorite map/gametype 50 times in a row. Something like that would be so popular, you would think they would implement it so I can only assume there is a technical reason for it... or, maybe they are dedicating their personnel/resources elsewhere? Not working for Bungie, all we can do is speculate. I doubt they wouldn't include it for no good reason.

As for your last point, all I can do is repeat myself: Bungie has to pick and choose... they can't please everyone, every time. They have incorporated a lot of ideas, but for example if one person suggests something like jetpacks, and another says that's dumb, they can't listen to both. Creating a game that appeals to the majority is in their best interest. They've had so much experience and data collected from H2/3/ODST that by now they must know what the majority of their user base wants in a Halo game.

Wow, didn't even know the site had ever reset. I've been into RvB for a while I just recently found the need to make an account. Then purchased seasons 1-5, I think all Roosterteeth's stuff is genius, but anyway just wanted to saw your feats? achievements? What ever are quite the inspiration.

No, I pre-order games from Amazon and don't lie to myself thinking it will get to me on (or before) release day unless I selected that shipping option. In fact, I almost always choose Free Super Saver shipping from Amazon because I'm cool with waiting. In the case of ODST, I chose to get it on day one because of the buy one get one half off deal at Best Buy. $45 + tax on release day is far better than $60 total while waiting for shipment.

They used to do it without asking, now they up their delivery charges and don't. That's my issue. It doesn't really matter, but pre-ordering something months before it comes out would make you think they'd at least try and send it out for the release day, not for the end of the week.
