      Feeling rather unaccomplished today.

I'm 27, I enjoy painting and designing, I love my 3d Printing and building props and stuff, but I feel like I haven't achieved anything.

I've had basically the same job for 10 years, which I do enjoy, but it's not a creative job. I dropped out of university because I was studying a subject that I realised I didn't want to have a career in, and therefore I don't have a degree, meaning that my "American Dream" of moving stateside is all but impossible.

At this point, I couldn't afford to go to university, there's no jobs in this area that fit the creative work I do, and I see very talented people, who are considerably younger than me, progressing into the careers and jobs that I've always dreamed about. I can't help but feel a bit let down within myself about that.

I keep building and making stuff for my portfolios and such, I have a catalogue of things I can do, but I feel like I can't actually achieve the things I want to, partly due to my location, and partly because I don't have a piece of paper that says I'm qualified to do the things I already do.

It would probably cost £30,000 and 3-4 years to get that piece of paper.

I'm not really feeling great within myself today

    • The cat adventure.

Yesterday this cat decided to chill under my car. It's a very pretty cat, very chilled and let me get a picture of it. It wasn't bothered by me being there, and I figured if I left it alone it'd come out from under the car in it's own time.

      This cat is an arsehole.

      CqjwGTlWcAA4SlB.jpg

Shortly after this picture, about 30 minutes, it decided to try to climb up into the engine bay.

It climbed up through the wheel well and was sat on the wishbone and next to the exhaust. Not an ideal place to be. I began the attempt to extract the cat by removing the airbox and intake pipes and trying to pull it up through the engine bay, but it wouldn't fit through. We decided to roll the car back into more space, take off the wheel and pull it back through the suspension, but it went back down on it's own as we were rolling it.

Now under the car, we teased it out with a broom handle (Which was an event in itself), and then the craziness began.

It ran from under my car, straight under my brother's. We scrambled to get it to move again and it vaulted the wall, ran to the neighbours house, under his car, and up into the engine... Neighbour comes out and starts trying to get it out of his car. Eventually, it comes out again, but it vaults the wall again, and straight back under my car again. ARGH!

At this point we resorted to the big guns. We got the hose, aimed it under the car and sprayed. It ran from under mine and back under my brother's. We sprayed the hose under there, it vaulted the wall, back to the neighbours car. We ran back across to scare it away, and it FINALLY ran a few houses down the street before going behind the houses.

What started off as a beautiful cat chilling under my car ended in an arsehole cat running between 3 cars and it getting covered in engine grime. It was also, by far, the most stubborn cat I've ever met.

It's been a while since I've designed a logo for someone, but a co-worker needed a logo and business card designing, so I offered.

Long story short, she sent me an example design, one used by someone she knows, and in the end it turned out she wanted something unique and different, but basically the same as the example. Yea, I don't know either...

Anyway, during my experimenting with designs I made this image. She didn't like it at all and knocked it back instantly, but I personally love it, so I had to share it somewhere!

      tumblr_oax7goov6B1qbzegoo1_1280.png

It has a bit of a retro style to me, and I love how clean the text is. But yea, I just had to share it somewhere

    • RTX Staff interactions

After my first RTX in 2014 I posted a journal listing the staff interactions I had. Not for bragging rights, but to have a written log/record of things. So, here I am again!

*I had no scheduled signings or meetings

Jon Risinger: Met at Pre-RTX event, quick chat and selfie
Kyle Taylor, Tyler Coe and Adam Ellis: Met at same event ^ Acknowledgements and "Hey"
Shannon McCorrmack: Same Event ^ Got a selfie
Michael Jones: Same event ^ Got a selfie
Jack Pattillo: K1 event, said "Hey, have a good race" as we passed each other.
Mica Burton: Said "Hey" and a couple things while walking. Got selfie
Matt Bragg: High fived when he ran through the aisle before Off Topic panel
Jesse C. Boyd "Jake" and Davi Jay "Ellis" from Day 5: Had a chat with them for a few minutes on an outside balcony area at the convention center.
Kara Eberle: Met her on the street after the con had ended.
Griffon Ramsey: Met on Con floor, got selfie.
Lindsay Jones: Met on Con floor, got shirt signed.
Jack and Caiti: Met after charity panel, got shirt signed.
Ray Narvaez: Said "Hey" on the con floor.

I'm sure there's more that I can't think of right now, but it was great to see and meet so many of them again. There was more that I saw around the various places, but these are the actual interactions I had with them.

    • The RTX Journal

      Stanty16 Graphics guy

It's been a week since it ended now, so it's about time I wrote about my trip. I'll attempt to keep it shortish since I do tend to waffle:

      Wednesday 29th:
      - Arrived in Austin, checked in to hotel and went exploring.
      - Walked down 6th street to get some Ice cream and learned that 6th Street is pretty long.
      - Headed out to TopGolf, which was my first time at a golf range in about 12 years. Even solo it was a good time, and I can imagine myself being there quite a bit with friends if I lived there.
      - Back to room, sleep.

      Thursday 30th:
      - Started with ihop, then met Cas, who is possibly the most adorable thing I've met. She's one of the cutest, most excitable and sweet people I've met I'd say, and was very happy to recieve her Birthday Kinder Egg!
      - Headed to the Immersion shoot. Spent the day from 11-6 being an NPC in an episode which will probably be a few months away yet. Met a few staff members there.
      - After there, met Aline and Katie who were amazing enough to sort me out with my hotel room and were way too kind to me through the whole trip!
      - We headed out to K1 for Jack's karting event.

      Friday 1st:
      - ihop, registration for my pass, then out to the Team Tina meet (ft Charlie the Doge). Met Deanna, Taylor Stone and Swirl there before heading into the con.
      - Started with the RWBY Panel, followed by a little con floor time before the AH panel where I hung out with Cas. She tried to teach me how to take selfies and introduced me to "Beefalo", her new plushie friend.
      - Wandered around 6th for a bit that night before getting back to the room.

      Saturday 2nd:
      - ihop, then straight to the con. Went into the LGBT+ panel which was great, then to the con floor for a little bit and to the RT Store for merch before Jack and Caiti's charity panel. From there went to the room for a couple hours and last minute headed to the Cards Against Humanity panel, where I found Jeanette, a cool friend who was cosplaying Pyrrha all weeked.
      - Headed to 6th again for food before checking out the Screwattack rave. I've never felt a floor flex like I did in that hall...

      Sunday 3rd:
      - ihop, then to the con for my busiest panel day.
      - Started with Free Play which was a fun send off to the series.
      - From there, met Cas again who I learned was also going to the Slow Mo Guys panel like I was, so she kept me company during that too. More plushie hijinks happened, this time with Magikarp.
      - From there it was straight to the Off Topic panel to finish off the con. It was a crazy panel for sure, but I'll let you watch it to see why.
      - Then it was just a chill night and packing. Headed back to the Convention Center to cheer on the Guardians for a while too as they were relieved of duty.

      Monday 4th:
      - Breakfast with Aline and Katie before they left for the airport.
      - From there I walked about 1.7 miles from the Convention center to a hotel on the edge of the UT campus. 1.7 miles doesn't sound too far, and it's not really, but in 30c/86f+ heat on an Austin morning, it resulted in a lot of sweat and a change of shirt.
      - Met with Jamie and her roommates there and hung out by their pool for a little while before leaving for the Airport to end my RTX trip.

All in all I had an amazing time there. Met a lot of community people that I talk to online, met some staff again and had a great time wandering around the con, exploring Austin and generally being back in the US again. Fingers crossed I can get there again next year too!

I'll make a different journal for my staff interactions soon

    • Back from Florida, a recap

      Stanty16 Graphics guy

After two weeks away in Florida, I'm back! [Pause for applause]....

It was my 10th visit to Orlando with family, and my 12th visit to the US, so here's a bulletpoint recap. Because if I didn't bulletpoint, I'd ramble:

      - Flight there, sucked.
      - New chipped passports don't speed anything up. Getting through customs took about 2 hours. People are better than Machines, just saying.
      - Hotel room was nothing special, but the bed was incredibly creeky and noisy. (No sex was had, it was just a noisy bed).
      - The themeparks were good, we did most of them, while there.
      - Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits still has the best fast food fries.
      - There's a LOT of new Ford Mustangs on the streets of Orlando. Probably all rental cars.
      - It didn't rain until late in the holiday, and days started chilled, and became hotter and sweatier as the day went on.
      - There is a lot of very attractive people in Orlando.
      - A concerning amount of people use the phone while driving,.Seriously, driving is often their 2nd or 3rd priority at the time!
      - I got some great holiday pictures on my phone!
      - I then corrupted my sd card when I got a cold and my brain wasn't working right... 2 days before coming home.
      - I still want to live in America.
      - Flight home sucked! A lot of turbulance.
      - Only saw 1 person in an RT shirt during the entire holiday.

I missed out a lot, but this is a lot anyway, and I'd be writing all day! I'll save those rambles for my 13th USA trip to Austin for RTX this year!

      Ciao

Tomorrow I fly out to Florida for 2 weeks with family, so I'll be pretty quiet on most social medias.

I'll probably still be posting to Snapchat (Stanty16) and Instagram (MarkStanton89) if you want to follow and don't already.

So, until I return, y'all have a good couple of weeks, be safe! And I shall see you when I return!

Without getting into the gritty, painful, stress and guilt filled backstory. RTX Flights are now booked and I'll be in Austin June 29th to July 4th. It isn't the dates or flight set up I'd have prefered, but I'll be there none the less!

So, I have a lot of you awesome people to meet over there! Pizza's will be eaten, swims will be swam, bevs will be drunk (Though I'm not a drinker), and I'm sure we'll have a great time!

    • Arkoshiper2016 asked Stanty16 a question

Could you do other rwby motorcycle helmets and do you also do red vs blue motorcycle helmets

      Answered: Apr 19, 2016

The RWBY ones I could likely do. I already have images I'd do, similar to the Ruby one, so they'd be pretty plausible. The RvB ones, Maybe replicating the character helmets? That would be interesting to attempt
(Also, you're my first question asker, so thank you!)

Currently my viable options are lottery win (ha), Marry an American (though wouldn't want to do that purely for a visa, obviously), or employment with a US company that can vouch for me that I have a skill that they require, that they can't get from someone in the US... Odds are slim to nil on those

The UK-USA government thing is a bit weird though. I believe the UK Government wanted the US to make it difficult for us to go there. Other countries seem to have it a lot easier than we do for whatever reasons
