      It's been too long...

I've decided that in order to keep up with all my social media, I either need to make it a full time job, or I need to hire a personal assistant (who will work for baked goods and my undying affection). Obviously, the latter seems an impossibility, so I'm going to just have to try to make due with what extra time I have -snort laugh-

It's been WAY too long since I checked in here, and for that I feel bad. Since I last checked in, I'm still working as an associate attorney at my firm, and still finding that I really need a 28-hour day to be able to get in all of my work and play. I've been splitting free time between writing, gaming and reading. I wish I could do all three at the same time...

Game-wise, I bought a PS3 super cheap and have been playing some games I never got the chance to participate in. I've been playing a lot of Skyrim, I started playing the Final Fantasy X-2 remaster, and my beau and I recently started dabbling in Minecraft together. Once a release date for Kingdom Hearts 3 is released, I'll probably be investing in a new generation console...but until then, I don't know that I can justify the money considering how little time I really have to enjoy these games.

Additionally, I challenged myself to do something this year that I've never done before. With the release of Alpha Sapphire last year, my inner-child challenged me to actually complete a pokedex. So, that's another project I've been working on! It's very very slow going, but so far it hasn't been too bad! I'm a little over 500 pokemon caught at this point. Go me.

I also set a reading challenge for myself this year through Goodreads. I want to read 27 books! It doesn't sound like much, but when I only reading time is a couple of minutes over my lunch breach (sometimes) and about 20-30 minutes before bed, it's proving to be more of a challenge than I thought it would be. So far, I've read the Maze Runner trilogy. re-read the Hobbit, and am about to finish the Fellowship of the Ring, since I've never read the LotR series. Feel free to add me as a friend on Goodreads, if you're a user! It's great.

Anyways, that's enough blabber about my life for now. More updates will be forthcoming. I've missed you all!

      Sponsorship

As part of my Lazer Team package, I have 3 months free sponsorship. Since I'm already a sponsor with automatic renewal, I'm wondering if someone knows someone that could make use of this. I'm happy to gift it away to something that could use it. Please message me if you have a nomination!

Lower the drinking age to 19?

I came across this opinion piece today about why we should lower the drinking age to 19.

I have to say that I disagree - maybe its stubbornness or naivety, but the "everyone's doing it anyway" mentality has never worked as a solid circumvention of established law for me. It's too slippery of a slope. But, that's not to say that I think this isn't a problem that needs to be addressed.

I should preface this all by saying that I was not your average teenager/college student. I had my first drink EVER when I was 19, and it was really my last one until I was 21. I worked the maximum number of hours I could work, went to an enforced dry campus (so even if I wanted to party, I'd have to travel to do it) and double majored, so my course schedule was heavy enough that all I wanted to do on the weekends was veg out in front of the TV and sleep. I know that's FAR from the norm. But I also know a good group of people that didn't fall into this college stereotype.

These kids are making CHOICES '“ to sit there and say that lowering the drinking age will prevent these kids from making poor decisions (the article mentions hiring strippers, rape and binge drinking, to name a few) seems like a cop out answer. This is not an issue that can be so simply swept under the rug. While the article's proposal would keep Freshmen from drinking (which by their own admission seems to be a wasted effort), it doesn't really explain how lowering the drinking age of still developing teenagers prevents them from making these decisions and engaging in this behavior once they turn 19. I applaud the increased focus on zero tolerance for drinking and driving that would have to accompany this new law, but it has far from won my vote.

Maybe it's naïve, but instead of making these actions and decisions legal at an earlier age, maybe college campuses need to take a look at their alcohol policies from a more realistic perspective. There were reasons why the drinking age was made 21 in the first place (the most interesting and credible to me being the still-developing brain). Maybe we need to educate and reinforce MEN as well as women that decisions made while intoxicated do have very serious consequences, and the "man, I was so drunk' defense is not a real shield against liability. Maybe college campuses need to be ready and willing to discuss alcoholism and treatment options. Maybe college campuses need to not turn a blind eye to underage drinking as part of "the culture.'

I guess what I'm saying is, I agree that this is a problem. I agree that there is more that can be done in this area. But lowering the national drinking age isn't the solution. Especially not for the reasons outlined in this article. However, I applaud the author for broaching the issue and encouraging dialogue about something that is so often hidden. Encouraging open and honest dialogue is always a good first step.

      What do you think?

      Betrayed by my Dentist...

So, I just found out that my dentist plead guilty to felony prescription fraud today and could face a fine of up to $250,000 and 4 years in prison. Apparently, he would write scripts for Oxycodone to patients without telling them, then would go pick them up and use them for himself.

      My mouth feels violated...

And I need a new dentist.

      Life Update

So, I realize that it's been awhile since I've done anything in the community. The simple explanation of this is that I now have a full time job as a first year associate attorney, am in the process of studying for a second bar exam the last week of February, and spend whatever time I have left trying to sleep and spend time with my boyfriend.

That all being said, things are going very well! I'm definitely looking forward to March 1, when I can once again have some sort of social life and not feel guilty for posting a journal or watching TV. haha

Definitely looking forward to getting more active again in just a few weeks! Stay tuned...

      More Gaming Advice Needed

So, this is all contingent on my finding full time work, but I want to get myself a nice Christmas present this year. I was thinking some sort of new gaming console (again, my most recent one I own right now is a PS2...) but can't seem to make up my mind if I should go with a PS3/Xbox 360, which I know has a ton of titles, or start fresh with a PS4/Xbox One.

Of course, my other thought is "gee, I'd really like an iPad.

      Thoughts?

      Things are looking up!

Well, I dropped my baby brother off at college yesterday. It was a really bittersweet feeling. I'm so excited for him to go through this adventure and have as much fun as I did in college. At the same time, I couldn't help but feel a little bit jealous. I'd relive college over and over again - it really was the best time of my life to date! Today I spoke with my boss about the potential for a full-time offer from them down the road, and she said that it definitely wasn't off the table, which is awesome! And the job I applied for at UC Davis got bumped to the next phase, which means that is still a possibility as well!

For the first time since graduating, it really feels like there might be a place in the workforce for me. I just have to be patient and keep my head up!

      I turn old today

Today is my 25th birthday! It's kind of crazy...I feel kind if old.

This morning as I was driving to work, all the kids were running to their bus stops with such excitement, it made me wish I was 5 again. But then I think about all the drama and uncertainty growing up the first time brought out an realized that while I would definitely do things differently if I knew then what I know now, I like how it all turned out. I've graduated law school, sat for the bar exam, have an amazing family and friends.

So, thank you for making these 25 years great ones. And if I've not met you yet, thank you for potentially making the next 25 even better. :)
