So, after my veiled previous journal entry and extended period of silence, I figured it's a better time than never to get you guys back up to speed on my recent lifings.
The biggest things that have happened recently!
I Graduated (End of 2012)
I covered this a while back, but I figured it's worth mentioning again. Got the degree in Environmental Studies (in City Planning). Earlier journal entry goes into more detail if interested.
I Landed a Job in City Planning (2013)
I worked for a couple years as a City Planner near Toronto, doing some pretty decently cool stuff working for the municipal government. The work was great, but unfortunately it was about 2 hours away from my hometown and too many people I needed in my life. After some bouts of emotional stress, I found a new job based on my project management skills and moved back to my hometown of London, ON.
Moved In With M'Lady (End of 2013)
Finally, after tons of years in different cities, we totally made it happen. I also managed to get a job working with a web development company, working as a Project Manager.
We Got a Feline and a Canine (2014/2015)
Our cat's name is Scout, our dog's name is Rogue. We got Scout almost two years ago, and we got Rogue back in June (just shortly after moving into a townhouse). Rogue is a Shepherd/Husky mix, a rescue, and one of the most loving creatures I've ever known. Both are admirably adorable, and you can see oh-so many pictures on my Instagram.
I Spent Some Time Exploring my Music Endeavours (2014)
Although I've been a little bit unproductive this year, there was a period of time (2014) that I was writing songs, performing, and really giving it my all. I had the opportunity to play at an outdoor concert at London's Western Fair. I was on a jumbo-tron, and had fans line-up for after the show. It was completely unreal, and something I would do again in a heartbeat. Since moving back to London permanently and spending more time on work, things have slowed down, but I hope for them to start up again soon.
I Landed a Job in the Games Industry (Late 2015)
This is the big one. For the past couple years I've really kind of struggled with where I thought my life was headed. I always felt a little bit out of place in the Planning industry, and felt myself getting closer to what I was happy with when hired in web development, and I'm overjoyed that my new employers saw my potential. I'm currently working for a company called Big Viking Games. I work on a team that runs a Facebook game, and while it's not glamorous and hardcore, it has such a committed and powerful community (sound familiar?). My work entails resolving player concerns, maintaining harmony in the Forums, and doing some testing (if there's time), and my official title is "Player Happiness Engineer." Once the New Year begins I'll be approaching my 3-month mark with the company, and the company culture still manages to blow me away. I'm in my element there, and I'm so happy know that I'm waking up every day doing something that I'm so privileged to be involved with, and so excited for the future holds.
So, there you have it. Probably the biggest things that have happened recently. I know I've lost touch with many of you that I don't have on Facebook, and I really hope to change that. After the site change, I know things got a little bit wonky in the Forums, but considering my new job involves a high-amount of community engagement, I figured I can at least get back in touch with my own wolfpack. I miss all you motherfuckers quite a bit.
Ask me questions! And I will ask you some! Treat this journal as a virtual pub for catching up with each other. What have you been up to, chums?
