      A late RTX recap

Oh man. What an amazing weekend! I've been fortunate enough to attend each RTX and the event just keeps getting better and better! The first year I got a lot of my signatures and photos out of the way, the second I spent most of my time in line for panels but this year I decided to take it easy and just walk around and really take in the exhibit hall. I ended up taking my younger cousin as graduation present this year and we had a blast! There were so many things do and see that I didn't get to all of it but here's a recap of what I did get to see.

      IMG_7159_zps03c45e06.jpg

The first day I was immediately drawn to the Das Keyboard booth. What started as a minor interest turned into a weekend long obsession. They had two keyboard stations set up where people were able to race against each other using Typer X (I just looked up the name of the site for this journal and got hooked racing for twenty minutes). Friday, Saturday and Sunday I was vying for the top spot but only ever ended up coming in the top three. I really wanted to win one of those keyboards but I played around with theirs enough to persuade me into buying one of my own. Hopefully they'll be back next year because the head to head competitions were some of the most fun I had at RTX!

      IMG_7152_zps184683df.jpg

At last year's RTX I rarely spent anytime on the E-Sports arena but the year I made it a point to check out some of the live events! I've never been into E-Sports but watching Grifball live is incredibly fun and I never thought I would be cheering so loudly for either side! On Saturday I got the chance to play BattleBlock Theater in an arcade cabinet which was really cool. There were two players to each of three cabinets. The first two cabinets were used to play competitively with four players where as the third cabinet was used for demoing co-op play. I was really hoping to play against other people but we got stuck with the Co-Op demo. The line was way too long to get back in for competitive play but it was cool to show off BattleBlock to my cousin. Finally I got to check out the Occulus Rift which was pretty freaking cool. Definitely messed with my head a little but overall I got used to it and really enjoyed it. On the other hand my cousin got incredibly sick and we had to rush to the bathrooms.

      IMG_7172_zps95377ae8.jpg

We finally took a break from the convention hall and got to eat at the wonderfully delicious Homeslice! This place is heaven on Earth and have made it a point to visit each RTX. Both my Uncle and my dad are the kind of people will always prefer cheap food to quality food but even they admitted that Homeslice is the best pizza they have ever eaten. After lunch we took a break and relaxed a little in the hotel before heading back to the convention to get in line for The Slo-Mo Panel! Gavin and Dan were incredibly entertaining and some of the stuff they showed off was pure awesome! Listening to Dan talk about his experiences in the army was absolutely crazy and I still can't get over how nonchalantly he discussed bullets zipping past his head. Saturday night was the night of the mixer but both my cousin and I voted on skipping to get an early night's rest for Sunday's early morning Slo-Mo shoot!

On Sunday we woke up around 5:45 in the morning to make sure we would be there in time for the 7:00 A.M. shoot and we were STILL cutting it close. I'm not sure if I can discuss the details of the actual shoot but it was incredibly fun and I'm glad I got to continue the streak of being in Roosterteeth Productions three years in a row. I have now been in Immersion, RT Short (or whatever Day Five is going to be considered. I hope it doesn't become Roosterteeth's Half Life Three) and The Slo-Mo Guys. I'm not sure if they can continue holding these live action shoots at RTX seeing as how crazy and massive this year's was, but they have been incredibly fun every time.

      IMG_7169_zps5343de92.jpg

Sunday was the day I spent the most time in line for panels. I was fortunate enough to attend both the RT Podcast Live and the RTAA Panel! I saw a lot of people complaining about people cutting or saying it was impossible to get from RT Podcast to the Animated Adventure panel but I was able to leave the Podcast Live, walk the convention hall for a bit, eat lunch, and still be lined up in time for RTTA. People be cray. RTX is the only convention I've been fortunate enough to attend, and time management is a skill you quickly pick up! Regardless both panels were amazing and are my primary concerns for each RTX. I think it would be better if they spread it across the multiple days but either way I'm glad I got to attend. I even got to stay behind a little and get Burnie and Jordan to sign my RTAA dvd cover!

      IMG_7170_zps9c1e11f6.jpg

Overall RTX was amazing as always. It's crazy to see how fast this event has grown in three years and I look forward to being there each year as long as I can. This year seemed like I wasn't going to make it but fortunately the stars aligned and I found myself in Austin once more. Thank to everyone at Roosterteeth for putting on such an amazing convention, and the entire RT Community for being some of the coolest people around! Here's to keeping the streak alive!

PS Found this in one of the Men's Bathrooms on the way back home. The gas station was just about as shady as you can imagine.

      RTX '13 Day One

Had an amazing first day at RTx! It' amazing how massive the event has become in just three years! Really proud of and thankful for all the hard work the RT crew has put into making this event as fantastic as it is!

Spent majority of the day walking the show floor going from booth to booth! Got to pick up the RTX 2013 shirt, a Burnie Bobble Head, as well as the RT hoodie (SO SOFT) at the express check out line. The regular RT store line was way too long but hopefully I can get there early tomorrow to pick up a few more things before going home.

Das Keyboard held a typing contest where the highest WPM record for the day would win a mechanical keyboard and I was tied for first place until the last twenty minutes of the day! It's crazy that the most fun I had at this con was at a typing contest but all of the contestants were super nice and it was cool having a crowd of con goers cheering us on as we went head to head for the number one spot!

Aren't a lot of panels I'm interested in going to until Sunday so tomorrow will probably be spent on the show floor again so hopefully I can run into some more people I know!

Message me for you number if you want to meet up tomorrow!

Now time for some hardcore relaxing.

For the past five days I have been pouring through old family photos and putting together a slideshow for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary. It was such an awesome experience getting to see these old photos, and getting a glimpse into my grandparents younger lives. Although the time frame was frustrating and getting family members to actually send in their photos an uphill battle, seeing everyone's reactions last night made the experience more than worth it. Sixty years is a long time and it's amazing to see all that they have accomplished in that time. You can check out the slide show below if you're interested!

I haven't had the chance to do any gaming this week so I haven't made any more progress in The Walking Dead game. Even though the game has frustrating controls and a tendency to glitch, the story and characters are so impressive that it's easy to look passed. I'm kicking myself for not sticking with it as it was released episodically.I did end up buying the Mass Effect Trilogy so I look forward to playing that soon, but not until I finish The Walking Dead.

This past month my cousins and I have been playing a ridiculously amount of Minecraft. Having the three of us build in the same world has made the game so much more enjoyable for me. I've tried and abandoned so many solo worlds but now with the three of us playing our world is starting to come together nicely. Last night was my first night to hop back into any game and we worked on a lot. The picture above is a hotel that we are working on. It's inspired from Minecraft picture we saw online. We added our own little flairs, and of course the interior will be all our designs. I'll upload more photos in my Image section.

Finally, I got a Fitbit! I've been eyeing one for quite a while now but never got around to pulling the trigger until now. Being able to keep up with my daily stats is great and it helps motivate me to hit my daily goal. I've noticed that I'm parking farther away in parking lots, and taking more scenic routes in whatever store I'm in just to get in as many steps as I can. My username is Treyrs20o9! Add me if you have an account too!

      I hate my favorite game.

This is hands down a first world problem but it's been bugging me for a while. Lately I've had a strong urge to play the Mass Effect series over again. The only problem is that I absolutely hated the ending of the third one. It completely ruined the series for me and pretty much took a giant dump on everything you as a player worked hard for. After the extended cut DLC was released and basically fixed nothing I hastily traded in all my Mass Effect games and swore off the series. Only my resistance is failing.

Flash forward to now and I've been eyeing this little beauty. 60 bucks for all three games isn't that bad of a way to get back into the thick of things. I've been trying to hold off, but it looks like I'm going against my better judgement. I've tried playing TellTale's amazing Walking Dead game, which admittedly has scratched the itch but it still isn't enough. Most likely I'm picking the Mass Effect Trilogy tomorrow. I know somewhere at EA and BioWare some exec is laughing at me.

      1266464746097.jpg

In a more positive gaming light, Sdn and I have been playing a lot of xbox live together. Mainly Halo 4 and Castle Crashers. I haven't played a Halo game as obsessively as I've played 4 in a really long time. The campaign alone got me reading the novels, something that has been on my to do list for a very long time. Playing War Games is the first time I actually feel competent in a multiplayer arena. I've always been more of a co-operative guy, but I've definitely been loving me some Halo 4 multiplayer.

Finally, I finished The Road yesterday. It was a great read, but I feel as though I'm missing something. As highly praised as it was I felt like it was a little underwhelming. Next I'm starting, Gathering Blue by Lowis Lowry. Recently I found out that this is the next book in the series of one of my favorite books from middle school. I had read The Giver by Lowry but had no idea there were more to the series. Going to read through those before moving back to Halo: The Flood. smiley13.gif

I watched My Little Pony Friendship is Magic

and I don't get it. Jokes aside, I helped babysit a friend's little girl today which granted me the opportunity to check out MLP. What am I missing? For the record the episode I watch was called, One Bad Apple.

I'm trying to make good on keeping up with the Roosterteeth site. Part of the reason I left was my disliking of the site changes but I will force myself to get used to it. Another reason for departure was the fact that the Roosterteeth subreddit made me lazy. It was so much easier to just take a quick glance and get a look at the latest happenings for the company but lately that place has become a cesspool of hate, overused jokes, and attempts to impress Burnie and be less weird. Most of the time I want this guy to go yell at most of them.

      tumblr_lspxrdKZtm1qcmbd6o1_500.gif

In more depressing news, my RTX streak might be coming to an end. Money, work, and unforeseen changes have severely hurt my chances at making a return to Austin this summer. The first two years were amazing and I feel extremely lucky to have been able to attend. Barring any miracles, here's to hoping next year I will be able to return.

Normally I liked to end my journals by asking what movies people are watching, but I talk about movies enough. Reading any good books lately? I've been making my way through The Road by Cormac McCarthy. I've had to give this book 4 chances before it finally stuck with me! The style is weird, and the dialogue a bit repetitive but somewhere near page 100 the book just grabs you. Even though the different writing style can be distracting there are moments of pure brilliance and just beautiful writing. I'm really glad I gave this book a fourth chance!

That's it, now can someone teach me how to use this site again?! smiley13.gif

      Promotional Slut

So I'm featured user again! It was a nice surprise to see the FU comments as I slowly got out of bed this morning. I was still shaking off a bit of drinking from last night's birthday celebration.

I can't believe I'm still in the FU rotation seeing as how my activity on the site has come to a halt. As with my usual FU journals this is where I promise to start using the site more but for now let's make things simple. Leave your twitter name in the comments, or follow me here! That's where I'm the most active and it's easier to keep in touch.

Things have been crazy these past couple of months. I'm still writing for Thinking Cinematic which just crossed the 3,000 all time views about a week ago. It's been a lot of fun writing movie reviews and I'm excited to see where year two takes me. It's the longest project that I have kept up and it is very fulfilling. All my life I've had interest in writing but never really pursued it. I would dabble here or there but I would never let anyone read any of it. Writing reviews has helped me get in the habit of writing as well as giving me confidence in what I write. The first step is always the hardest but once you get into the habit of it, it gets easier.

      ThinkingCinematicBadge_zps71434cd4.png

On that note I want to put my promotional slut hat and talk a bit about Thinking Cinematic. I'm looking to expand so to anyone who is reading this and would like to take a stab at writing movie reviews you should totally head on over to Thinking Cinematic to find out more details and see if it's something you'd be interested in. Although I strive for a professional look I am by no means a professional. I'm learning a lot as I go so there's really no need for fear when it comes to writing. The only requirement to submit a guest review is that it should be at least 400 words long and about new movie, or movie relevant to what's in theaters now. If T.V. is more your speed I'm looking to have episodic reviews of episodes as the air. If I like your reviews, and you like the experience, then we can talk about being a full time member and discuss writing schedules from there.

Anyway, really cool being featured user again. If you happen to stop by my profile from the front page of Roosterteeth, leave a comment below. Introduce yourself. Let's be friends!

      Men in Black III

I remember when I was seven years old I used to wake up early on saturday mornings to watch MTv in hopes that I would catch this music video. It's crazy to think how much time has changed. Then five years after that I would sign into AOL and set this music video to load in the morning and hope that it would be done by noon, barring anyone using the phone and ruining our internet connection. It's funny how now it takes little to nothing to find those two music videos that I used to spend a lot of time waiting for as a kid.

Enough reminiscing! I finally got around to writing another review and you can check it out here! We're running low on writers so if you think you want to start writing for Thinking Cinematic send your guest pieces or any other work at [email protected] for review! Of course, guest pieces are always welcomed!

      How's life on your end?

I recently purchased one of the newest iPads and it has been some of the best hours I've spent in the last few days. I hated gaming on the iPhone but with the iPad it is so much more fun.

I've found hack and slash games, shooting games, flying games, and card games that have been an amazing experience. The retina display on this thing is amazing and is slowly spoiling me.

Any other iPad 3rd gen users out there?
