      Santa of the Secret Persuasion

Hello there, you might be wondering, who I am (you know, if you don't know who I am), what are my likes, what are my dislikes. Luckily for you, my likes are vast and dislikes are narrow, and for exact info, I do have a public Amazon wishlist broken down into different categories, you have my name, look it up (if that's a route you'd want to go, of course)! If you want to get me clothing of the shirt variety, I generally wear a large. So have fun with it and I'm sure I'll love it and feel bad by how awesome it is and how terrible the gift is that I'm giving someone (sorry someone smiley6.gif ).

To those of you not of the Secret Santa varieties, hi! I'm not dead, in fact I'm doing well as I finally got one of those jorbs, one that pays me money, for services; it's pretty swell. Now that I'm working and not feeling like a sorry sack of shit I plan to be more active here, but now I'm all tired and junk from working... damn. Anyways, I'm here and look forward to having conversations with all of you!

      Toodles.

      Title Goes Here

Hello everybody. So... I'm not dead, huzzah! Apparently it has been a while since my last journal, so I figured I go ahead an write one. First things first, I wish to give a BIG CONGRATS to Vicky and Zach, I'm exteremly happy for you two! As for me, I did finally graduate and am now looking for one of those "jobs", looking for just about anything that deals with programming. Beyond that, nothing too special, went to Quakecon for the second year in a row as press which was fun, I also went to the Gamestop Expo and got to meet the President of Gamestop (No, I didn't punch him or say his company is ruining the gaming industry, he was actually quite nice). So, that should do it, hope you're all doing well!

      Oh, hello there...

So, I haven't updated in a bit, my last journal was kind of like, "Aww shit, what the hell am I supposed to do now that I have my Bachelors?!?" Then something interesting happened, I got an email stating I hadn't qualified for graduation :(. Turns out I had missed a core class which had been over looked even through a couple degree audits with the counselor. So I get to graduate again, oh how lucky of me, but this semester should actually be it plus it gives me an excuse to avoid the real world for a little longer.

Also, over the winter break we shot another video which my friend finally got edited and posted a couple weeks ago. Here's a link to it. This is the first in a series we plan to do on different PSA type topics. On the video front, we've been continuing to do a video a week summing up top gaming news stories with Controller Nation Weekly. If you have some time I'd appreciate it if you watched a couple and gave some feedback, we're constantly trying to improve the show but, have the handicap of a budget of $0 and myself as the editor :p. We're aware it's a bit dry, can use more videos and animated graphics which we're figuring out how to do all of that.

Okay, I'm done for now, have a great day all who read this.

      Obligatory New Years Journal

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Years. I haven't really done much of an update journal in a while so here's what's up. I'm currently in a bit of Limbo as this past semester was my last and I now have a bachelors. I'm not a big fan of the typical question that follows me stating that, "What are you going to do next?". I'm not going for a Masters since the one I would want A&M San Antonio doesn't have, I could go to UTSA or a different University, but I like A&M and they're working on getting the program, it's just a couple years down the road. So for now, it's time to make a living.

I'd rather not settle on some crap job just to pay the bills in the mean time, so for now while I still live at home I'm just gonna focus on my side projects in hope they take off. I'm going to be trying to write more for Controller Nation just to improve my writing skills as they're a bit less than stellar but for money I'm going to be working on making some games, finish those that I've made for Imagine Cup to start bringing in some revenue streams. Since I know most of you don't have Windows Phones you won't be able to play them, but I am working on porting to Xbox 360 for the indie market where you'll be able to try them and I'll give a heads up when they're on the market.

So that's what I'll be doing for the next couple of months, we'll see how it goes. All I know is I didn't go to school for the past 6+ years just to work retail or food service. Something I'll be looking for while I'm working on my projects is the possibility of getting a job at an Austin game studio, as there are many, compared to San Antonio where there are none (until I get mine going :) ).

Alright, that's it, here's looking forward until the end of the world in December!

      Just Like Old Times

      NOSTALGIA, BAM!

So I saw a couple of movies recently, first I saw:

Puss in Boots, I saw it in 2D since glasses + 3D glasses aren't kind to one another. I found it to be quite enjoyable, had decent Shrek-like elements with a bunch of references to different children's stories but was over all quite well done. I think I'd give it:
      tu.png
      Not amazing, but still good.
      [remember the scale is: (tu.pngtu.png)(tu.png)(tn.png)(td.png)(td.pngtd.png)]

Then I saw A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas, unfortunately for this one I had to go with 3D which I didn't care for, and for the most part it was standard schtick-ish 3D where for most of the movie it just separates layers between the people and background then occasionally threw stuff at the audience. 3D aside, I enjoyed it, I felt it went back towards the original and was just a silly stoner movie. I hated the 2nd movie since they decided to make a political stoner movie, which just came off as crass, uneducated and idiotic. So with this one, it was just amusing how the situation escalated to beyond ridiculous and the randomness of NPH. So I'd have to give this a:
      tu.png as well.
If you enjoyed the first movie then you'd probably enjoy this one as well.

And finally, over the summer we shot a short film but it was missing the final scene. Then a few weeks ago we got that last scene in and got the short finished. As a whole, it's whatever, a friend of ours directed it with no vision of the over all project, so the best part is the end which we took completely out of his hands and just finished, so I present: A Reaper's Deadline.

Have a good one everybody! tu.pngcrazy.png

      More Plugging

Normally I'm not a big fan of using my journal as a platform for pushing my wares, but hey, it can benefit you with free stuff!

So once again Controller Nation is having another giveaway, this time for a Skyrim "lithograph", which we've just been calling a poster as it's 36" X 14", and a Skyrim keychain, not as cool as the poster, but still has the dragon logo. Some images:
      P1020742-e1319173813584.jpg
(Big Daddy doll and Duke bust are mine and you can't have them!)

      P1020747-e1319173854664.jpg
      (About 1 1/2 inches tall)

And all you gotta do is 'Like' our Facebook page: ~Link to said Facebook page~
Then answer this question on our Skyrim Giveaway discussion on Facebook:
"What's your favorite Elder Scrolls game?"
      and ~Link to said discussion~

If these seem like something you'd like, enter and we'll have a drawing that Friday Skyrim comes out (11/11/11). And we have 2 sets so we'll be drawing 2 names for identical packages and we don't have that many entries, so your odds are pretty good.

For better odds of getting free stuff, follow us on twitter: @ControllerN, where lately we've been dropping a bunch of codes for random things, and I just so happen to know that we'll have a batch of more codes soon, so if you're the first to put them in, huzzah, it's yours. And I'm not 100% that all of the previous codes we've posted were used, people didn't really respond, so going through them is worth a shot. And if you claim one, be sure to reply to the post so we can keep track of all that.

That's all I have, I hope those of you interested will take advantage of the stuff we're giving away. For those of you that swear off those evil sites (Facebook and Twitter) just visit the site, you can subscribe to our rss to stay on top of different posts, reviews, summary of pre-order bonuses, selected news and our different videos.

I'm glad you agree with me on the Supernatural thing. I remember you saying you liked it a year or two ago. I've been watching this season although I haven't been paying that close of attention. If they had done something like going back to first and second season type stuff, I would have been fine with them continuing, but they're trying to have some sort of epic plot with angels fighting in Heaven, and some sort of "Mother" demon or something. It's stupid.

thats awesome man. yeah, when Manu hit that shot everyone went crazy, but the replay on TV showed his foot was on the line, so we were expected people to go nuts about the call. but that Neal shot was CLUTCH. i haven't been to any type of games that were that close for awhile. i think the last one i went to was when the Mariners came back from a 7 run deficit in the final 2 innings to win lol

Well, right about now, I was originally planning to be announcing that tickets for RvB:TX were on sale. Unfortunately, that's not going to be the case. You might have heard that the RT staff has their own event planed for late May. We, the organizers of RvB:TX, don't feel it will be possible to compete with a larger and better organized event, so we're officially canceling our event.

But all is not lost! We're keeping the group page for two reasons:

      1) RvB:TX will now be a hub for all RT fans in and around Texas. We'll keep people up to date on RT related events in and around Texas, from small meet ups to the RoosterTexas event the staff is planning. If you have not already done so, please watch the group to stay up to date on the news.

      2) We're planning a smaller get together in Austin this winter. It won't be as big as our original plans, but it'll still be a chance for fans to get together and have fun.

For more details, please see the journal here.

I loved that track and field game. I didn't play it until I was in high school, I think, but it was a lot of fun. I wish I'd had it when I was younger.

No tree? That's terrible. It's just not Christmas without a tree.

When she told me they didn't have the game, she seemed to think I would do that. At least she paused and waited for a reaction. I should have though. I don't see how they can have the case and not the game. That just doesn't make any sense.

If your Kinect is plugged in when you power on your Xbox360....it will default to the Kinect hub (versus the normal Dashboard). You can either use the voice command to get back to the dashboard OR use the controller's guide. I only have two games for Kinect at the moment. (Adventures that comes with it and Dance Central). Mainly got this for the weekend as my sister and niece will be coming down on Saturday.....thought it would be cool to try out with them. We use the Wii a lot during family events like this....so the Kinect should be a good fit.

    • Raptor_Alpha

This is good to know as I'll be getting a kinect tomorrow and I have an older 360. Luckily the 360 has easy access. So it comes with a short extension cable for the wi-fi to allow that to connect to the front usb so the kinect can take the back port?

yes, the short USB cable that comes with the connect is specifically for the Microsoft Wi-Fi adapter. This way the wi-fi adapter stays attached to were it is and the cord becomes just long enough to reach the front.

I'll write something up telling my experiences with Kinect after the setup. Pretty favorable but not "Earth Sahttering". Voice commands work very well but not everything can be voice controlled. The "minority report" swiping of your hand to access Kinect hub selections (playing games, videos, reading messages etc) is a bit slow.....the controller is still the fasted way to interact with the system.

Friendly Neighborhood RvB:TX Admin here! Just a few updates on the group today:
      1) We officially have 200 members! Sweet! You Guys Rock!

      2) We'd really appreciate it if everyone watches the group and checks the forum every few weeks or so. We post polls and messages on the group and we need YOUR input to make sure that this RvB:TX will be the best yet smiley0.gif . If you already watch the group, thanks a ton! If not, go here and click the watch button. There are also polls concerning likelihood of attendance and optimum ticket price in the group forum.

      3) The event is being tentatively scheduled for next March. Hope to see you there!

      4) We could really use the help of a Web Designer. if you or someone you know could help us get even a bare bones site running, it would be greatly appreciated. However, please note that this will be an act of volunteerism on your part. We'd love to pay you, but we just don't have the money. But isn't being able to say that you designed a site in order to celebrate the greatest Machinima series ever reward enough? If you are still interested, please contact myself, or one of the other group admins.

      5) Keep active in the group. The planning staff is constantly looking for cool ideas for events, and they are the best spot to get yours out there.

That's all folks! Keep your eyes glued to the screen for further updates.

So far, the most useful add-ons from Mozilla are available for Chrome, so I'm not missing out on too much. Also, Chrome is a greater resource hog than Mozilla, since each tab is independently processed. With as many tabs as you tend to leave open, the Mozilla memory leak is modest by comparison.

If only my prof was that lazy. He required at least 10 unique citations, all of which had to be present at least once in the paper. 10% right there.

Part of the reason why I can't figure out how much the paper is actually worth is b/c it's not listed in the syllabus, but also part because he assigned automatic 5-10% on doing certain things, like having 10 citations was 10%, turning in an outline was 5%, and some other stuff. It's a BS paper I wrote, but I'm sure I scored at least a 20...
