      Where have I been

So, this seems to have become a theme with me. Disappear for months and months at a time, then write a journal about how long I've been away and what I have been up to. So, here goes.
I guess I will skip most of last year and just recap my winter. I have to say that this has been one of the best winters I have ever had. I finally put my foot down at work and asked to not travel anywhere for a while. I was starting to get burnt out and it was really starting to affect my personal life, so it was time I took a break from the road. Since I was home so much it gave me a chance to really enjoy the Rocky Mountains. I bought myself a mountain snowmobile in December and really loved the sport. I grew up sledding back east in Ontario and have always wanted to get into mountain sledding since I moved to Calgary. It is the best sport I have ever gotten involved in, and way more difficult than I ever expected. On top of sledding, I got in quite a few days of skiing as well. The best of which was 3 days of cat skiing that I got to do with some of my best friends, in March. We got pounded with snow and it was endless powder for 3 straight days.
In my gaming life, I think I'm just stuck playing Modern Warfare 3 now. I really wanted to 100% Arkham City, but I just got bored of chasing Riddler challenges. WAY TOO FUCKING MANY of them!

Below are a couple links to some of the videos I made throughout the winter:

      Snowmobiling

      Cat-Skiing

      Hope y'all are doing well.

      Still Alive

      Hey y'all

Yes, I'm still alive. Been busy as hell the last few months with work and traveling all over the place again. Went back to Africa, got really sick. I though it was malaria, but turns out it was just the flu, I probably picked it up from one of those dirty Frenchman on an Air France flights.

Right now I'm in Denver for a couple weeks of work. It's keeping me very busy, but I am going to go to the Rockies/Giants game tonight at Coors Field. Lincecum is starting for the Giants, so I'm looking forward to seeing him Pitch and Brian Wilson hopefully. Fear the Beard.

I haven't been gaming never as much as I would like to have been. I've gotten sucked into the new Tiger Woods game, but other than that my xbox has only been used for Netflix lately.

Hope all is well with everyone out there.

      Damn you 360

So, I went down to Bestbuy last week and I saw a 16Gb USB drive on sake for 38$. Thought it was a good deal as most of those in Canada are at least 50$. So I pick it up as a storage device for my 360. I am currently using a 4Gb device but I wanted something bigger so I could keep on my rockband music on it. So, I put the new 16Gb into the 360 and started formatting it for use with the xbox. It didn't work the first time. It came up with "Something happened and couldn't format the device, please try again". So I tried again, and it worked no problem. Great I have a new big storage device. Transferred 3.5 Gb of data over to it. All of my Rockband DLC, gamertag, and all of my save games from the last 6 months.
THEN.....The next day I went back to my 360, turned it on looking to play some Rockband 3. It couldn't find my Gamertag. So I look at the USB Drive to sign in from it, and there is nothing on it. My xbox didn't even recognize it as formatted for use with the 360. I tried all sorts of things, and couldn't get it to work, and therefore couldn't retrieve all of my data. So, I had to retrieve my gamertag. I spent a few hours RE-DOWNLOADING all of the rockband DLC I have accumulated over the 3 years. I have also lost all my game saves. GONE. Fortunately Halo: Reach, and Black Ops saves your multiplayer progress with your Gamertag, but everything else is gone. Luckily I also had to start Fable 3 over again anyways (Because the game is broken).
However, most of my other game saves are gone, so I will be probably selling them to Bestbuy or Gamestop. I won't be playing through games again if I don't have any game progress to go off of.
I won't say this often, but BOOOO Xbox 360

      Single

      So,
Last night my girlfriend and I, of just over 2 years, broke up. It was about as mutual a breakup you can get, but it still sucks in a big way. We were just drifting apart, and didn't have that much in common anymore. It was a great 2 years, though the last couple months kinda sucked.
Going to be tough being single again. Don't really remember how to do it. I think for now there is just going to be a lot of me going to the gym (get rid of relationship weight) and me playing video games (something I haven't been doing enough of lately).
When I do start looking again though, this relationship has taught me a few things. I need to find someone who is ok with me being a gamer. My ex didn't mind but she got visibly annoyed when she would come over and I was on my xbox, even though I would finish up what i was doing and get off as soon as I could. I've been gaming since I was 7, that's not going to change.
      well, til next time.

      Long Time, No Journal

      Hey Y'all,

So, it's been a super long time since I've put up a journal. So, thought I would give you a recap of the last couple months of my life. Cause I know you are all oh so interested.

Work - In October I went back to Tanzania, AGAIN. This time was not the greatest and may have turned me off going back to Africa. A few days into my trip, a guy I knew and worked with before was taken hostage at gunpoint, only 50 yds away from me. This is supposed to be on a secure camp. They intruders were after the gold on site, and since that guy they took was the general manager, they figured he could get it for them. He was retrieved a few hours later unharmed. He escaped in the woods during some confusion when police were chasing them. So, I'm not such a big fan of Africa anymore. Too bad cause I never got to see anything cool there.
I've been back to Nevada again for work in November. Was a quick one week trip, but I always have a good time there.

Gaming - Well shit, where do I start here. The past few months have been insane for gaming. September was full of Reach. Pissed off about the 80000 credits I lost by taking my profile online. I started the game offline cause I was in Nevada at the time. Finished the campaign twice (Solo Heroic, and Solo Legendary), was up to WO3, got home, took my profile online, back to Sergeant 2. Seriously Bungie. I know it's to stop all the cheaters out there, but you really screwed up honest folk. I could have been almost up to Lt Col by now, instead of still trying to make Captain.
October was awesome. I got Force Unleashed 2 (incredibly disappointed with that story), Rock Band 3 (what a fucking AWESOME game) and Fable 3. So, Fable 3....broken. I'm stuck in a glitch where I can't get out. Lionhead, pathc it so I can continue to play my game. I'm 16 hrs into a character and don't want to start a new game.
November. BLACK OPS. So I got this game, and love it. Still like MW2 a lot but this was a great campaign to play. Except if you are going to play it, I don't suggest doing the campaign on Veteran your first time through. It's incredibly hard and just ends up pissing you off, so I didn't enjoy the story as much as I could have because it's great. Multiplayer is fun. A lot more even than in MW2, but I don't find it as tight. I find I'm always slightly laggy compared to everyone else, even with full bars. Fun game though, and I play a lot of it, cause that is what my friends mostly play.

Rest of my Life - Well, Since October I've been on a bit of a health kick again. Trying to get myself back in shape (the past couple years have not been nice). Been going to the gym almost everyday at 5 am before work, and most days again after work. I'm down about 15 pounds since September. My goal is to get down another 20. Definately feeling good about things, and my legs are getting back into shape for ski season.

This year is an El Nina year, which means a lot of snow. I bought new skis and they are super fat for the deep snow. Most hills are open already or opening up this weekend, can't wait to get out there again with friends.
This November I decided to do Movember. For those of you who don't know what it is, the month of November, guys raise money for Prostate Cancer by growing Moustaches. So I had a furry upper lip for a month, and raised 600$.

Well, I think that is all from me, I'll try to post more often.
      Sorry this is so long.

      On the road again

So, I'm back in Tanzania again. I've been here just over a week, and I'm due to head home in 2 days. Really looking forward to getting out of here. Work is killing all of my desire to travel. I've been to some pretty cool place, but never get the chance to enjoy them.
Last week when I was here, the General Manager was taken hostage. I know the guy and have worked with him before in Toronto. He works out of Toronto and was over here for 3 weeks as acting GM until they could find a new one. Everyone was recovered safe in a few hours, but it's just scary shit. I'm done with Africa.

My plan when I get home is to hopefully take a week off. It's my birthday on Sunday, so I plan on having some drinks with friends (if i'm not asleep from jetlag) then catching up on some Xbox playing. Need to get going in Reach again, and i will be picking up The Force Unleashed 2, maybe Fable 3 but I might wait for that one.

Home in 4 days. Can't wait.

      Reach Award Glitches?

Anyone else tried going for Carter's Helmet Avatar award in Reach yet. I've been trying to do it today. I figured doing it on Winter Contigency would be the easiest level. Got about half way through the level and died. Really stupidly I might add, let myself get tagged by a grunts grenade. So I choose restart mission out of the pause menu. I figured his should reset the mission, as it goes and restarts it from the cinematic. Went through the whole level without dying. got to the end of it and now avatar award pop. Nothing. WTF? I really took my time though it, didn't die, and I got nothing for it? I just want to see if anyone else out there has had anything like that before I try again.

      Bleep Bloop

So, I just beat Halo: Reach on Legendary Solo. That achievement pop "2 for 275G" was possibly the greatest achievement pop I've had. Even though I haven't got my 1000 yet in Reach, I've done all I can while offline, so I'm really happy. Awesome awesome awesome game, but a hell of a lot more fun to play on Heroic than Legendary.

I'm still amazed that Poutine has not found it's way here to Texas. "Let's take french fries, smother them in cheese, and then smother that in gravy." It would fit in perfect.

I think you guys got the better end of the deal.
