Wow! I am having to relearn where everything is on this forum. I guess I have been away for a while. Still can't post mods from work due to something funky in the lame proxy. Oh well, I should be working anyways.

It has been a LONG time since I have poked my head in over here so I thought I would give an update.

Life has been very good to me. Work has been busy to the point that I have been working long hours and the occasional weekend. I relocated to a different apartment in Torrance where we scored a two bedroom, three car garage unit! The garage is also taller so it will allow more room for my truck to grow!

Speaking of the Hummer, I have been a very busy participant/leader in my club. I am still learing what it is capable of taking and the pictures will prove it!

      IMG_1674.jpg

I did learn the extent at which I could tip my truck over and not roll. drkjstr333 was with me when I almost rolled it on a steep hill in Last Chance Canyon. Things were okay at the start. The hill is roughly a 50 degree slope with a few steps on the way up.
      DSC00709.jpg

Then . . . my right rear wheel dropped into a hole, putting us into a 37 degree side slope.
      DSC00710.jpg

Talk about pucker! Here is a good video of the incident. LINKY

Well, I hope all of you are doing well. I will try to come back over here more often.

Wow, has work been hectic lately. Seems like every task is a top priority rush. Somehow amidst all the chaos I managed to get some fun stuff done.

I recently ordered a Wolo 840 air tank and compressor to put in the Hummer. This would allow me to have on-board air and not have to pull out the cheesy portable compressor when I air back up after a trip. It took me an entire weekend to just get the compressor and tank mounted. I had to pull the entire front of the truck off to mount the tank in the bumper in between the tow hooks.
      15.jpg

I found room for the compressor behind the right headlight.
      9.jpg

The truck sat apart for a week until the next Friday. I guess I was in a hurry to get it completed and forgot I left the cabinets open in the back of the garage again. CRACK! The back window disintegrated. I bolted the front back together enough to get the truck to a body shop to fix the rear door. I was bummed out since I had a Club Hummer Offroad meeting Saturday.

The club meeting went well. Got to meet some new people and make plans for future trips. I decided to take a group back up to Last Chance Canyon on the September 25th. It was a fun day with my CHOmies!

The next day, Ellen and I took a few days off to go to San Diego for our twelfth anniversary. We had a lot of fun taking the convertible around the city and spending a day at Sea World.
      27.jpg

      41.jpg

Today, I got the air tank finished on the Hummer. Most of the gear is packed and ready for the run next weekend. Good thing since I have to work on Sunday.

As usual, you can find all my pics here:

um... well, I wasnt prepared for that

well if I were to sell it on my site I would charge $2 plus $1 shipping

besides the Klingon, what were your thoughts?

I mean if you were a customer buying from the site and that came in the mail do you feel that its a decent value?

I went with the best vinyl possible from a material standing, that's also the best release media available, did it apply well for you? (I'm very practiced at it so I am not a good test subject)

      Should I run tests?

      Yes? YES!

I think I'm going to run tests, once the new product pages are completed, the new products up and coded, I think I'm going to run an official test

That's pretty amazing, actually; that's within 1-2 mpg (at each level) of my Subaru! (I've always been unhappy with the mileage my relatively small car gets... but knowing that I could be doing almost as well in a Hummer? Geez.)

    • Hamstar

      Really?

Question, if you know... my plan is to cover the existing roofing with plywood and re-sheet and shingle it.

That's how I would do it in the south... would that be a bad idea in the north?

    • Hamstar

Last night I had a friend comment about the roof and how she hopes it will last until the end of summer, and from the bottom of my heart I said "Today, tomorrow... if it goes I'll handle it"

I have a few plans in the mix for if it does go out "today"

but in the meantime I'm getting all of my ducks in a row so that I can get the permits ready to go if I am so lucky as to have it last long enough to do it when it's not snow capped.

I can roof alright, but I cant express in enough words how badly heights terrify me

That video is great. It really does a good job of putting it all into perspective. I've got to burn that to a CD and hand it out to people who praise Obama for 'cleaning up Bush's mess'.

Last year, when the economy seemed strong and unemployment was around 5%, there were 44 million uninsured Americans. I don't know what the numbers are today - but to me, 44 million is ALREADY a big-enough number that something needs to be done.

It wasn't (isn't) that people are unemployed - it's that more and more companies are hiring in ways that keep them from having to provide health care to their employees. Microsoft, for example, hires EVERYONE as a contract worker, to begin with. You have a 9-month contract, then a 3-month 'break'. If you're lucky, you're hired as a full-time employee after that. If you're not, you're done. Either way, Microsoft is not obligated to offer you health insurance for your first year because you're below the minimum number of hours needed to be considered 'full time'.

      They're not alone.

Health care in this country has been an issue for decades - Hilary Clinton tried to do something about it in 1992, but failed. (I was scared as hell when she was the front-running Dem for the 2008 elections; I'd HATE to see her as president. That doesn't mean I didn't see the value of what she was trying to do 20 years ago, though...)

As for paying for folks who refuse to take care of themselves... you're ALREADY doing it. NOBODY is turned away from medical care in emergency rooms right now; you go in with a gunshot wound, and no way to pay, they'll still patch you up. Those costs are passed along to you indirectly - hospitals bill insurance companies more for regular treatment, the insurance companies pass the costs on to you in the form of higher premiums. I'd LOVE it if people took responsibility for themselves - but the fact is, some percentage of the population will ALWAYS be deadbeats, and someone's gonna have to pay to keep their corpses out of the gutter. It's gonna be you and me no matter what - so why not minimize the cost?

I'm not sure I understand your comment about not knowing who Obama is or where he came from - I'd say I know as much (or as little) about him and his internal agenda as I do about ANY politician. I don't trust any of 'em very much (anyone who wants that job doesn't deserve to have it) - but I don't trust him LESS than anyone else.

::shrug:: We'll have to agree to disagree on this one; I think our country's in the shitter right now, and I think the blame can be spread around to a LOT of people and institutions going back decades. I think Obama could have done things better in the past 7 months - but I do NOT believe that we are where we are because of his actions over those 7 months. It's way bigger than he is, and I'm willing to give him a little more rope at this stage. If he hangs himself with it, so be it - but we elected him, we should give him a shot at the problem first.
