Did something change with the sponsorship system? Because apparently mine didn't auto renew and I didn't get any kind of email about it. I had to redo it with the new payment plan. I'm not complaining about the price, btw. Just curious what happened. I've been a sponsor for close to three years, I think, so I didn't expect to log on and not be a sponsor anymore.

      Anyway...

Hi to everybody in the everyone feed who might read this. ;)

    • Let's talk about Destiny

      kimbykat Something Witty

A lot of people like to shit on Destiny. Yes, it has its problems. A questionable loot system and a lack of story driven content for example. But, what game doesn't nowadays?

Every Youtube video about Destiny has those comments of "People still play Destiny?" Yes, yes we do, sir. A lot of us do. Probably most of us who play actually find it fun. Why is that so hard to believe?

A Spark of Light booster pack is now being sold for Destiny for $30. It will level one character up to level 25 (the base level you need to play The Taken King Story), and level up one sub-class (my guess would be the year 1 ones only, because you have to do a quest to unlock the year 2 ones anyway), telemetries to help level weapons, and likely outfits them with appropriate gear.

With year 2, Bungie gave everyone a Spark of Light that leveled a character to level 25 and outfitted them with appropriate gear. The only difference between this Spark and the $30 Spark is that it completely levels a subclass as well. The original Spark did not level your subclass.

I feel like the boost is aimed at one of four groups of people:

      1) New players who have friends who are all high levels, whom they want to play with.

      2) Returning players who have neglected their characters.

      3) Players who only regularly play one class, but want to level up another class quickly.

      4) Specific console players that are switching to the opposite console and can't be bothered to grind.

I fall partially into that last category. I play on Xbox, but I'm getting a PS4 tomorrow, and, because I enjoy the game, I ordered TTK because it was on sale. I won't, however, be buying the booster, because I'm actually looking forward to doing the story (I say that loosely) missions again, but with the Year 2 changes, i.e. the quest system.

Some people see this boost as Bungie making the switch to "pay-to-win" micro-transactions. I'm sorry, but no. This boost isn't end game. It just gets you, quickly, to the point where you can play the specific Taken King content. It doesn't make you raid ready. It doesn't make you a master at Trials or Iron Banner. It merely lets you skip the grinding of year 1 content.

All of the items that Destiny has offered as micro-transactions have been cosmetic, up until now (with the slight exception of that dang record book for SRL, though the things it nets you aren't necessarily better than what drops). Who cares if I spent like $120 to buy every emote in the game, aside from my wallet? It doesn't affect my game play in anyway. If people want to buy the boost, let them. it doesn't affect your game play in any way. Not everyone has the 10-20 hours to spend to get up to level 25.

Until Bungie starts selling Strange Coins, Motes of Light, syntheses, exotic shards, weapons, or armor for real money, it's not pay to win. It's pay to dance. It's pay to skip the barely there year one story. Also, remember that these micro-transactions fuel your free new content.

Until then, calm down people. Enjoy the damn game for what it is. Or don't enjoy it. Either way; I don't care. Just calm down.

Exactly two weeks from today, I will be winging my way to Austin for RTX. I've never been to a con before, so I'm both excited and nervous about it. On top of that, I'll be co-hosting (in some fashion) the RTSQ Presents: Community Content with The Angels at the Alamo Drafthouse on Thursday. (Submit your content here!)

I'm going to be tagging along behind @LadyOddDuck for the most part, but I'm pretty excited about seeing all the panels and live events.

      Let the countdown commence!

    • Happy Second Birthday, The Angels!

I haven’t been with The Angels for the entire two years; in fact, I became a fan shortly before our first birthday. I remember seeing the thank you video on YouTube.

I had joined the group on RT because it was refreshing, from my point of view, to see a group that was lead and ran by females with the ultimate goal: to entertain and be beacons of hope in a community dominated by male voices. I started watching the videos they put out, and learned the personalities of the members I now adore: Kariann, Sarah, Gabe, and Anthony, for starters, along with some voices we no longer hear. For a long time, I stayed on the fringe of the group, just watching, even a little envious of the interactions and the fun that they seemed to have.

Slowly, I started to insert myself, warily, into the group. I’d never really felt like there was a place I belonged, no smaller community inside or outside of RT that I could call home. But, I felt like there was common ground between myself and The Angels as a whole. I took a chance on myself, which is hard for me, and emailed Sarah and Kariann about becoming a more active member in the group. They took a chance on me, an unknown quantity, and finally, I found a place where I can shine, with a group of people that I know that I can be myself around and who will accept me, even with all of my faults.

So, to Sarah, Gabe, Anthony, Sammii, Clare, Dasha, Virtual, and Zoey, as well as the friends in our community, Michael, Trisha, and Tjar (just to name a few off the top of my head), and our former Momma Angel Kariann, I just want to say the following:

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being some of the best friends I have ever had and will ever have. Thank you for being so accepting of a nobody from a backwards state who had hardly ever posted on the RT site and didn’t even use Twitter until recently. Thank you for ignoring my inability to drive or fly any vehicle in GTA or to shoot things effectively in Destiny. Thank you for laughing with me, instead of at me.

And to those in the RT community who feel like I did, like you have nowhere safe where you can just be you, remember this. Whether you need someone to vent to, a shoulder to cry on, or you just need a laugh (serious, watch me play GTA; it’s guaranteed to make you laugh), we will be here for you.

We love you, always and forever. <3

    • Austin better watch out!

I got my weekend RTX pass! Yay!

Super excited to go, and now I just have to figure out the logistics of getting there and whether or not I'm flying or driving. My parents' anniversary is that weekend, and they're talking about driving from SC to Austin with me, so I don't have to fly/go by myself. However, it's much more costly that way, because they expect me to foot most of the bill for the three of us, where I can save about $500 if I fly and go by myself.

Hoping the Angels can work out the bungalow/condo thing so we can all party hardy and I can go without my parents breathing down my neck.

It's the worst because I'm 32 and sometimes they still treat me like I'm a little kid. I know their hearts are in the right place, but still.

      Anyway, #firstworldproblems.

      #RTX2015 here I come!

I said this on Twitter already, but I feel like I need a little more space than 140 characters.

Monty was an inspiration to so many people, including me. His hard work and dedication to his craft was something I respected and admired. My heart, like I'm sure everyone else's is, feels very heavy.

I just want to let the community know that I am here for anyone who needs to talk, a shoulder to cry on, or even a virtual hug. It's okay to grieve. It's okay to feel sad about this.

We are a family, after all.

All the love to you all. smiley12.gif

You gotta love how Gus posted a sponsors only journal with specific instructions not to like it, and 23 people liked it anyway. :|
