      She said "Yes"

      Hey everyone,

...not sure how to start this off, but here's the higlights none the less...

Well, as the title implies I got engaged :) My girlfriend Macy and I have been dating since April 2009. To save you from having to do the math that's 6 years 7 months. I finally worked up the nerve to propose, got a ring, and hatched a plan (with some help from my sister and Macy's best friend) to lure her to a local garden / park thing where I would be waiting to surprise her and do the 'down on one knee mushy stuff'. Our plans had to be accelerated a bit due to a forecast of lovely Michigan weather (i.e. the BS that is outside your window right now) but other than that went off flawlessly and as I said, she said YES!

      Broken Truck: Round 3 Continued

Well since I have no idea how to pull the video from Facebook I captured a few of the highlights of my truck's attempt and ultimate failure to defy gravity. Sorry in advance for the 2005 flip-phone camera image quality.

      Broken Truck: Round 3 (KIA)

So after dragging my feet for a month I figured it was about time I shared the thrilling conclusion of "Justin tries to kill his truck". As you may deduce from the title this time we were a bit more successful...

      or were we...

The first weekend in October some friends and I went up to the dunes for the 2nd time in 2 months which went the confidence gained from the first trip was still fresh and willing to promote bad decision making. By day 2 (Saturday) I got overconfident (understatement of the year) and decided to follow my passenger's suggestion of trying to jump off of one of the dunes. Needless to say we succeeded.

https://www.facebook.com/frankie.messina.5/videos/... (hopefully you can follow the link to the video, I couldnt figure out another way to get it off facebook)

      wKBdv8D.jpg

      tW92EdN.jpg

We launched at we are assuming was about 50+ mph and got around 6 ft. of air. Narrowly avoiding landing on the roof, my passenger and I survived with no injuries other than still necks for the rest of the day. Miraculously the truck emerged mechanically undamaged; well except for the passenger front wheel well liner was pulled out by the tire and took a chunk of the coolant reservoir with it. This didn't stop it from driving out of it's crater and making it to the parking lot where we patched her up and it drove us home Sunday (I decided to count my blessings and not take it back out on the dunes).

Well once we made it back home I started looking around underneath the cab where you could hear some popping noises over bumps in the road and the found I broke the body worse than I originally thought. In addition to the bent fenders, hood and destroyed bumper; the front cab cross-member (that connects to 2 of the 4 rubber mounts that hold the cab to the frame of the truck) kind of exploded next to the cab mounts leaving the front of the cab free to move if it saw fit.

Before you judge me totaling a perfectly usable vehicle (not that you shouldn't but there was some reasoning behind the decision), I went on these off-roading excursions because the truck was in suck poor shape. There was so much rust on the bed the sides flapped in the wind going down the road. The rocker panels (under the doors) were completely rotted away. There was a hole just behind the passenger front tire that you could actually see the carpet through. Plus there were 2 quarts of 85w 140 gear oil (syrup) in the engine to keep the oil pressure over 20 PSI at idle. So she was tired

Now that the truck is no longer even off-road worthy I sold it this afternoon for parts.

      TLDR: Justin is an idiot.

      Broken Truck: Round 2

Welcome to another installment of Justin does stupid things in his truck and breaks things.

Apparently since going to the sand dunes a few weeks ago I'm now on a mission to kill my pick up truck. Today we went to some off road place called "The Mounds" and bounced the poor thing down a bunch of muddy trails all afternoon (only getting stuck once) until finding a large clearing with several large puddle type things that we start playing in. I decide to go through one of the like 6 soupy areas (looking no more dangerous than the other 5 or so shallow mud spots). Well I judged wrong! The water was a bit deeper than anticipated and upon promptly getting stuck, the floor filled with about 6 inches of water (more like a 3 foot deep pond then a puddle) and the engine proceeded to suck a bunch of water into itself, hydro-locking it.

For the non-car people: Hydro-locking is simply when you suck very non compressible water into the internal areas of the engine where air is compressed and the engine tries to compress it anyway. Resulting in either the engine stalling and being unable to turn until the water is removed or the engine unfortunately keeps running for a few seconds bending and sometimes snapping vital internal engine components... Its a bad time

A friend pulled me out and we spent like 30 minutes getting the water out of the damn thing and to my delight the the freshly drained engine fired back up. Pretty much after that we called it a day and I was just happy I was able to get my truck out of there under it's own power thankfully NOT needing an engine overhaul because it's owner is an idiot lol.

Round 3 coming soon: Sand Dunes Oct 9-11 :D

      What a week (+2)

The events in this journal were pertaining to the past week when I intended to start typing this, laziness and life delayed me so hence the +2.

Last week was a pretty packed week for me, filled to the brim with awesome, with a small side of WTF. Lacking anything else generic to say about it I guess I'll just get on with it...

I've worked at GM for going on 5 years now, not to be confused with working for GM. I've been what they referred to as a "fee for service" or "contract" employee which basically translates to a full-time-temp. Which puts me under the classification of 'not an actual GM employee'. I worked for a third party company for less money, no GM benefits, and was remarkably easier to fire.

Well not any more!!! I got an interview late July to be hired GM direct (yes,I had to interview for the job I was already doing) and was given an offer and a start date early this month to become a "real employee" effective Sept 1st. This is awesome for a lot of reasons, the most obvious of which being money and benefits. Also I finally get vacation! I got 2 weeks of vacation before but it was kind of a joke because GM shuts down for about 3 weeks a year so you didn't really get any vacation you chose. Not the case anymore. So I worked a total of 3 days before taking 2 days off.

I hinted at it earlier that I actually still have the same job position and management and my vacation was planned like a month or so ago. It just looks worse on paper than it really is, but more on that in a minute...

Our tradition at work is the same one you had in elementary school, when it was your birthday or other big event, you get to bring in treats for the class. "Bait Piles" as they are commonly referred to now serve as a reason to stop work and socialize for a few minutes and of course eat junk food you didn't pay for. One such event worthy of a bait pile is when someone gets hired so to shut everyone up telling me to bring in food I obliged. My treat of choice is from a deli down the road the makes a really good breakfast pizza. I tried to preorder some Wednesday morning on my way into work and was confused on why the phone was busy, for like 30 minutes. So I just drove there accepting that I was going to have to wait for them to cook now. My curiosity was being enticed by the high number of emergency vehicles that kept passing me. I finally make it to the deli and discover it is a raging inferno. 'Well that's a good reason to not take my phone call'. This was the fore mentioned 'WTF moment'. Don't worry no one was hurt but I did have to listen to a never ending string of people asking me "so I hear your pizza was a bit over done" or that "I didn't have to burn the building down if I didn't want to bring it in that bad".

So on a lighter note, what did I do with said vacation you may ask? Some friends and I took a trip to the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. I had never been and let me tell you it was a blast. I ended up taking my old GMC pick up out there, starting with the mentality that I was just going to use it as a butt hauler so I wasn't dependent on others and I could drive around and explore on my own. Well that changed almost immediately and ended up with me driving home on Sunday missing the middle of my front fascia (plastic bumper), driver's side fog light, front plastic skid plate and sporting a broken universal joint in my front drive shaft and 2 broken exhaust hangers. Totally worth it! It was a comforting feeling, if not a bit damning to my truck's condition, to have open offers from 3 different people that if their trailered-in dunes toy made it out in one piece then they could tow my truck home on their trailer. Thankfully it didn't come to that but it did present me with the rare opportunity to not think twice about launching my truck into the air off of a giant sand mount. Hehe.

I ended up getting Labor Day off anyway and taking Tuesday off just because I had things to work on and tinker with (other then my recently broken truck). My story ends with me having to go back to work like an adult to be a productive member of society...

That's all I've got, thank you for your time lol.

      WARNING: Car Stuff

      Hey everybody,

I haven't made a journal or been on the site in general recently for one reason or another (nice weather means suddenly everyone is in the spring cleaning inspired mood of "I've been putting off fixing my car but if you have any free time I could use some help"). So I figured I'd share the excitement of my drive home from work.

I try not to go on about my job very often because I acknowledge it bores most people to sleep but for those who don't know I work in brake testing and development for GM. Which has lead me to come to the very firm belief that ABS is a necessity. Some cars still don't come with ABS standard (it's cheaper) like the Chevy Cobalt and HHR or the Dodge Avenger. Its a common argument that people make "It causes you to take longer to stop" 1 of 1,000 situations they are right but in the rest ABS is a valuable asset. Especially when said person isn't the best driver. For instance it allows a panicking driver to steer their car while standing on the brake pedal... But I'm not going to go into a rant on all that stuff today, on with the story already

On my way home on US-23 there is a particularly short on / off ramp combination that always causes a conflict between people getting on or off and the regular highway traffic. Well the fore mentioned excitement occurred when about 50 ft ahead of me a merging car decided to cut-off an Avenger because he wouldn't let him over or something and the Avenger driver panicked and hit the brakes hard. The Avenger's wheels locked, the car began to rotate and made it about 30 degrees to the left (this is the part where ABS comes in handy) before letting off the brake causing the car to suddenly veer over into the left lane and have just enough time to correct and catch the car before he left the road.

So that was about it I almost got to see an accident up close and personal. Everyone survived unscathed...

But that's enough from me for on day I think, hope to see you all Saturday!

      Facebook works in mysterious ways

As Facebook has evolved from a computer based social media site, that could only spam you with game and group requests when you're at your computer, to one that constantly pings your smart phone courtesy of push notifications... The 'people you might know' function has maintained a consistent level of useless with my reaction usually being some variety of "Nope, never heard of them".

Well surprising enough it finally got one right but I have no idea how it came to it's conclusion. The notification was for none other than @LoZelda... What makes this so odd to me is I've never posted any RT stuff on Facebook (Other than liking RT and AH) and I'm not friends with anyone from the site on there either. We live on opposite sides of the state. We have no friends, schooling, or occupations in common. So as far as I can tell I paired us as potential friends based solely on liking the RT page... Well done Facebook, you finally got one right lol

Skimming though my news feed the journals started vague like Burnie's about the podcast to the full blown shock of Matt's... It's devastating. It doesn't feel right looking for something funny to watch but then again I don't need to search. Tonight is a RWBY night.

It's a weird thing wanting the opportunity to say goodbye to someone you didn't even know and wishing you could've told them through all of the noise how much you loved what they did... From the greatness that is RWBY to every scene of awesome you brought to RvB.

      Good bye Monty Oum

Hanging out with some cousins today reminded me of a 'face palm' moment I had over the holiday with another branch of the family that I would like to share... Long story short: we got into a discussion about some internet videos off a tangent of which I asked the question "do you how many letters are in the alphabet?" Of the 11 in attendance varying from 8-34 y/o the answers varied from 12 this was answer given by a 34 year old man... really dude lol - 29 with only 1 other person in the room knowing there are 26... (sigh) family lol

So I'm Justin, for the past 3 years I've worked for General Motors in Brake Development as basically what amounts to a hybrid between a test driver and mechanic. I'm a closet gamer whenever I'm not tinkering with something... And yes my username is terrible and childish but I made back in 2004 when I fit the bill but I managed to be user # 4505 so I just couldn't bring myself to make a new one.

Let's move this off the thread I suppose. Weekdays I'm home and settled by 7 for now. I've got an interview on Thursday so this could very much change by the end of the week. Weekends are also busy for me too.

Probably a good call... Well would you want to do it this Thursday? IDK when your interview is but assuming you'd be home around the same time and are up for it. I'm not sure if it's still going to happen but Patrick was talking about doing a Minecraft game night this Friday but there hasn't really been much in the form of solid plans so there's a very real possibility I'll be free on Friday too.

Or there is always next week if you want to plan it out further in advance.

Earlier this month Tomb Raider on the 360 (Just finished that), now I'm moving onto Bioshock: Infinite on the 360. There was some Worms: Battlegrounds on the One and Rayman Legends on the One as well whenever I get to that... You been playing anything?
