    • Rooster Teeth teams up with Fullscreen

      matt

During the last three years Rooster Teeth has grown at a crazy pace. We've been releasing more videos than at any time in our history. In fact, on a per minute count, we now regularly put out more content every week than we used to in an entire year! Of course quantity is not the most important metric, and of all our accomplishments I'm most proud of the fact that we strive to improve the quality of all our shows every single day.

All of this growth has been amazing and exhilarating, but it's also made us realize we need more support if we are going to take our company and our community even further. Burnie and I have been searching for a partner that could help Rooster Teeth to develop and grow, while allowing us to remain true to our core ideals and principles.

Today, I'm extraordinarily happy to tell you that we have found that partner, and we can announce that Rooster Teeth will now be a part of the Fullscreen family.

We've known the amazing team at Fullscreen for several years, and we are confident that they have the vision and integrity to empower & enable us take Rooster Teeth to greater heights than we ever could have achieved solely on our own. This is a company that is paving the way for the future of media and entertainment, and it's a future that we want to play a huge role in. Together our possibilities are endless.

We look forward to creating more fantastic content each and every day at Rooster Teeth, and working with Fullscreen will make that goal a whole lot easier. Thank you, the RT community, for your incredible enthusiasm and support these last 12 years. We hope you'll love every minute of our next exciting chapter.

    • Lazer Team - Week #2

      matt

I just stopped by the Extra Life live stream. If you haven't watched yet or donated go do it now - for the kids!

So week 2 of Lazer Team production is over but it already feels like we are on week 20. Every day has been exhilarating and exhausting and full of surprises.
We started the week at a local prison - yes, a working prison - but probably not filming it in the way you might imagine. That day my older son Webb got to be in the movie and even did a stunt! He had on a full harness and a cable. I was proud but also very anxious. Thankfully our stunt coordinator Jeff was terrific and made Webb feel comfortable and safe. He was really pumped. My two favorite quotes of the day were Webb yelling "Everyone, Webb is on set!' and "Let's do this!'
The next day we shot at a crossfit gym and knocked out 4 scenes that all looked completely different. During a fight scene I learned that @alanritchson is even more of a bad ass than you probably imagined. A stunt guy kicked him in the head and Alan barely felt it, but it hurt the stunt guy's foot. TRUE STORY.
The rest of the week we shot at the National Guard Armory near Stage 5. We had a long dialog scene that the cast really brought to life with a bunch of hilarious ad libs. I probably ruined a few takes for audio by laughing off screen. The set itself was really cool too. Our art department made it from scratch and it had movable walls so we could do a few trick shots. Fun stuff.
We ended the week with a big action scene that had wire rigs and explosions and all kinds of cool special fx. I didn't realize how much soot and smoke and crud we were producing until I woke up the next morning. My head was all stuffy so I blew my nose, and a bunch of gunky black stuff came out. Really gross. And really awesome. Making movies the down and dirty Rooster Teeth way.

      Until next week,
      Matt

    • Lazer Team - Week #1

      matt

      Hey gang -
Been a busy and amazing first week on Lazer Team production! We've shot at 3 locations already and got some fantastic footage. Our very first shot was a complex moving camera setup with VFX elements that featured Alan Ritchson, our "Adam," running right past the camera. I wanted him to run fast, but had to keep telling him to slow down because he's so quick we couldn't catch him on camera! Later @Jon showed me some photos he took and in every single one ALAN'S FEET WERE NOT TOUCHING THE GROUND. Yes, he is a real life super hero, I guess we did well on casting.
One night we shot at the National Guard Armory across the road from our studios complex. Art department did an amazing job on it. It looked like a million bucks and our director of photography and gaffer did a kick ass job lighting a huge set with tons of extras. Had a little time to visit with some our Indiegogo EPs on set too which was fun.
Our only hiccup so far was shooting at this amazing set we had for a command center at my alma mater, UT. It was overnight, and during lunch (at 3am) they took this giant monitor system we were using offline, and then couldn't get it to reboot! Luckily we found some workarounds and everything was great, but I was mildly panicked for an hour or so. Thankfully our AD kept us on track and all our actors, including some RT folks, did a great job.
To end the week, we did a small table read with the core cast at Stage 5. It was the first time everyone has read together and man - what an ensemble! Allie, our "Mindy," is so charming, and Colton and @Michael threw in a ton of ad libs and were cracking everybody up. It was a great night.
Getting ready for a week of 14 hour days, and couldn't be more excited. We have some bad ass stunts and special fx planned for tomorrow. Can't wait to shoot it.
I will try to update once a week if not too exhausted. Thanks everyone for your continued support on backerkit, every little bit really helps. Also - if you haven't seen @Barbara 's posts about needing extras, please check that out for your chance to be in the movie. We can use you!
Lastly, I haven't yet had a chance to say thank you to everyone who posted their own ALS Ice Bucket challenge video after we put ours out. My dad thought it was amazing and our family is really thankful to you all.

      Best,
      Matt

    • Our ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video

      matt

      Hey Everyone -
We just took the ice bucket challenge to help raise awareness and money to fight ALS! Watch the video here. (It's awesome and has some super cool slow mo!) We are proud of all the charity work we do at Rooster Teeth, but I wanted to take a moment to tell you about how this particular cause affects me personally.

About a year ago, my dad was diagnosed with ALS. Before that I didn't know much about it, only that it's generally known as "Lou Gehrig's Disease" and that it's very serious.

Since then, I've learned that it is an extremely debilitating and ultimately fatal condition, and that there is no known cure and basically no effective treatment. It not only affects the person suffering, but in many ways the entire family. In our case, my dad and stepmom are currently in the process of moving, because he is no longer able to safely move about in the home that they've lived in for many years.

Thankfully, my dad is pretty tough, and with a little help from the VA, our family has the resources to cope with most of the changes that ALS has forced up on us. But there are a lot of families that aren't as lucky as ours, and - more to the point - ALS is a disease that no one should ever have to endure.

So thank you for watching and sharing our video. We hope it inspires you to take the ice bucket challenge yourself, or to make a donation to find a cure for ALS. We're nominating our friends the Barenaked Ladies, the Rock, and of course the Rooster Teeth Community to take up the challenge next. We know you guys will do us proud. You always do.

My own family, and my Rooster Teeth family, sincerely appreciate your support.

      Best,
      Matt

    • Lazer Team Casting at RTX!

      matt

One of the most frequent questions we've received since starting our Lazer Team Indiegogo campaign is, "Are you going to have a casting call?" The answer is yes, at RTX! On Sunday, July 6 at 4pm CT we will be holding the Lazer Team casting call in Room 18 of the convention center for all RTX attendees. A professional casting company will be running the auditions. We are looking to fill some minor speaking roles that are open to all ages, races and genders. You do not need to bring anything with you and no experience is required. Please be aware that all auditions will be recorded and you will need to sign a release to participate. We're excited about finding a new star or two from our community, hope to see you there!

If you'd like to help make Lazer Team an even better movie please visit our Indiegogo page to make a contribution. There is less than one week left in our campaign, so don't wait! We'll have lots more Lazer Team news this week, and our Reddit AMA on July 3 at 12pm CT.

For more information and updates to the RTX schedule, make sure to download the RTX app for iOS and Android.

We have an awesome cast, we have a bad ass crew, we have a great script and we have some amazing locations. This is happening. I know a lot of you have been waiting for news on this project, and I'm happy to tell you we start production this week.

But, Day 5 isn't the only new project we're working on. Lots more big news coming this week. BIG. Stay tuned...

Our newest RT Short was just released, watch it here. If you've already seen it, then you know it stars the most handsome man in all of Rooster Teeth to ever speak German and Spanish simultaneously, and also Chris.
What you probably don't know is that it was directed by our friend Joe Nicolosi, who previously directed Burnie in the hilarious Kittywood Studios video. It was weird being directed by someone who works so much with cats. He would never give us screen direction, instead choosing to simply aim at the floor with a laser pointer until we would pounce on the little red dot. He also made Chris go in the litter box instead of the bathroom. Not sure why that was necessary but he said something about "method acting." Chris didn't seem to mind.
Writing credit goes to the good @RevDrMarquis, whom you might recognize in the video as the worst dancer in all of history. He's the one that gave me the line about "hating your generation," because apparently he thinks I am the same age as his grandfather. I'm not, but I am dating his grandmother. We met on Tinder.
Hope you enjoy it as much as a Warm Sack. Patent Pending.

Hard to believe we are 11 years into our mission to create the world's best Justin Timberlake fan site, and we still haven't gotten that accomplished. (What, you didn't know that was how it all started?) I will say the distractions have been fun though. Red vs. Blue, Achievement Hunter, RT Shorts, the Podcast, Immersion, Animated Adventures, RWBY, just to name a few. Oh, and that little summertime get together known as RTX. I guess we've been pretty busy. Sorry, JT.

One question we get a lot is, "Did you ever think Rooster Teeth would actually be a success?" I mean, it is a weird concept, right? A bunch of guys making jokes over video game footage and then cutting it together so it plays like a movie. Then posting the videos online and hoping people will actually find them and watch them - let alone enjoy them. I think you kind of sound like an arrogant jerk if you answer that question with anything other than "No, of course not." So at the risk of sounding like an arrogant jerk - Yes, I did! I absolutely did think Rooster Teeth would be a success, I just had no idea what success was going to look like.

From the moment Burnie showed me the very first tests of Grif and Simmons talking, I thought, wow, there is really something magical about this. I bet there are other people out there that would like this, that have the same tastes as us. If we can put some of these videos out and people find them, that will be a huge "success." What I didn't foresee was how many people that would turn out to be. By the third episode a million people had downloaded Red vs. Blue. That was a crazy number considering no one was really watching video online yet. YouTube didn't even exist. But those kinds of online numbers seem so abstract anyway. The bigger number for us was 250.

That was about the number of people that came to our first big screening at the Lincoln Center in New York City, back in January 2004. We were in awe at being invited there in the first place, but what really amazed us was that people had come to visit us from literally all over the world. There they were in the flesh - the people that were just usernames on our old forum - they're real and they came thousands of miles so we could all celebrate together. We realized then that we didn't just have a show that worked, we had a community. Suddenly, anything seemed possible.

Over the course of these 11 years, we've tried to keep pushing our limits, testing what's possible. We've grown a lot, adding new people to our family and our community, and we've tackled bigger and more ambitious projects at each opportunity. In doing so, we've been constantly redefining for ourselves what success means. But, there is one guiding principle that we always try to follow: we make content that we like; that we believe in. Hopefully, if we do it well enough, we'll continue to find people like you that want to enjoy it with us. And that is the truest measure of success I can imagine.

Thanks for 11 great years, RT staff, community, friends and family. Let's keep pushing the limits.

      1396396040_Lincoln_Center_01.jpg

Thanks to Gav for the photos. That's our old friend Graham Leggat in the center of the group shot. You may have heard Burnie talk about him on the podcast.

    • A Christmas Chat with my Son

      matt

Late afternoon on Christmas Day I walked into the living room to find my two sons, 9 and 6, happily playing games together in front of a brightly lit tree with a roaring fire in the fireplace. It was a heartwarming scene, until I smelled something awful. Rotten egg nog bad. As a concerned father I thought someone might have been so overwhelmed with Christmas present hysteria that he postponed a trip to the bathroom too long. Which lead to this memorable conversation, that I think really captures the spirit of the holidays in our home:

Me: Whoa. Are you guys in here making stinky toots?
      My 9-year-old: You are.
      Me: No, I'm not.
My 9-year-old: The denier is the supplier.
Me: What? Where did you hear that?
      My 9-year-old: Your butt.

And thus concluded a very special Christmas chat with my son. I hope your holidays were equally festive.

I made this account just to send my respects to Monty and his family. To tell the truth, I was introduced to Monty's work by a friend when he showed me Haloid. It may even be said that that was my first introduction to machinima, and Internet culture. I have not been a major participant in this community, though I have been a fan for many years, so I will honor his memory by being more active in the community of the company he worked for. Thank you for all the good times Monty, we'll remember you.

My heart goes out to all of Monty's family in Rt and out. He did great work that made us laugh and smile and sometime jump for joy, I've watched the RBWY series with my kids and can't describe the joy they had on their faces while watching it. Thank you Monty for sharing your talent with us, I'm so glad you let us get to know you.

Monty Oum inspired me in many different ways. Before becoming a designer I wanted to be a cartoonist and animator and Monty reawakened some of that passion in me and drove me to put more of my art and talent as an illustrator into my work and to make time for personal drawing projects again.

I know that Monty and his work inspired me to be more creative and share more of myself with the world and I will always be grateful to him for that.

I wish I could say that I knew Monty, but sadly I've never met him, never could make it to any events to meet him. But I hope that I can say that we all knew Monty, and still do, as more than a just a brilliant animator, or an amazingly creative mind. We all knew him as a human being, a wonderful human being, just like the rest of the staff of Rooster Teeth. So I hope that we can all put what heavy hearts and minds we have from this loss together and, as soon as possible, think of Monty with tears of joy rather than sorrow. For after seeing Meg Turney deliver the news and do her best to fight back tears to bring it to us, even the Devil and Death themselves shed tears at what sorrow the Rooster Teeth staff and community sees now.

      Rest Easy and Well, Monty.
      You left in grace peace.

He was nice, loyal and kind, I..I just can't stop think about how he brought happiness and laughter to me when I was depressed. And now he's..gone and I feel so sad and I'm cry, because he's not just some guy who makes videos, he's like family to the RT coummunity, we all are a family. My point is that monty and the rest of RoosterTeeth helped bring happiness back to me and that was something even I wasn't even able to do. I love him and RoosterTeeth for that :'(

Dear Mr Hullum, Mr Burns and the rest of the Rooster Teeth Family

Over the last few months I have been tweeting both yourself and Achievement Hunter sending out messages as The New World GamerZ; I don't expect that you have read them or paid any attention to them and it is completely up to you and the rest of your colleagues. However that is not my reason for messaging you this evening; my reason for messaging you is to send out my heartfelt condolences for the recent tragedy that has fallen upon your company and also the family of Monty Oum.

As one of the Co-Founders of New World GamerZ; I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for Mr Monty Oum. An incredible young individual with tremendous talent and an incredible eye for creation. My colleague and I have been saving up money for the last two years in order to go to an RTX Convention; one of the reasons that we have been attempting this is because we would love to meet each and everyone of you. We have especially been saving to be able to meet Monty; there are so many reasons that we wanted to meet Monty. His creativity; his impeccable vision for animation and also it would have been an honour to meet the man that has brought myself and my colleague so much enjoyment with all of his content and creativeness. It saddens the both of us tremendously that we will no longer be able to do that; but fortunately the spirit and love towards Monty not just from ourselves but from other members of the community will live on forever and he will never be forgotten.

I would like to add that when we release our first video; that we would be honoured and would love to dedicate it to the memory of Monty Oum. I hope that it will be okay for us to show our appreciation for him in our video; with your kind permission. I want to finish by saying directly to Monty as he looks down upon all of you at Rooster Teeth and also as he looks down and watches over his family; Thank you Monty inspired so many young individuals such as myself and my colleague and friend to show our creative sides. Thank you Monty for so much incredible and unbelievable content that we will forever enjoy. My thoughts and prayers to all the Rooster Teeth family and also Monty's wife and the rest of his family.

Time is the most important thing that we posses and we need to make the most of our time with our loved ones.

From the bottom of my heart; Thank you Monty for everything that you brought to the world. Thank you Monty.....Thank you for being the one and only irreplaceable Monty Oum. Rest well and bring your creations to the angels.

      R.I.P Mr Monty Oum

I can't believe he's actually gone. I never watched alot of Monty's content but I never missed out on his influence within the company/community on YouTube. I remember first knowing of him from an 'Animated Adventure'; the one when he's dancing and describing Gavin's 'bonifieing' finger. Then I watched abit of RWBY and loved it so much, I ended up zoomming through Volume 1 and I've always meant to catch up with Volume 2.
Now, in respect of Monty, I'll watch everything I can find involving Monty. He was a tremendous, hardworking, creative, and passionate individual. His memory will be treasured.

      Thank you Monty.

      Hey Matt

In the comments I have posted a poem but I don't want you to read through all the comments just to find it so Ill post it here so it is somewhat easier.

      The angels sing
as one rises to join them
      On golden wings
      He soars to them.

      Heaven accepts him willingly
      No contest declared
He shall be one of us they said
      In awe they stared

This person has done great in the world below
      He is loved by countless
      He loved them all back
      Both sides greatly missed

Welcome to Paradise they all said
And embrace him with arms held out
      You'll see everyone again
and they all cheer with a mighty shout.

And like i said in the post, everything Monty and Rooster Teeth has done has influenced millions. I became a fan when I was in junior high, I am now a junior in college. I have seen numerous content and been there all throughout the offices you guys occupied. I am not the only one. The moment Monty started creating his content, I was very impressed by how much he could do in so little time. He is the model of hard work, dedication, and uncanny spirit. A true loss to you as a company and to us as a community. We thank you Matt and to all of Rooster Teeth employees for what you do and having Monty as one of you. He will be greatly missed.

I'm a long time fan, but I live in Ohio and travel is expensive. I'd love to meet some of the RT people, that I've admired for so long. Is there any chance that I could convince you to add the Mid Ohio Comic Con in Columbus, Ohio to the list of RT venues? This year it will be September 18th-20th. Either way, keep up the awesome content!

I've got to say, I'm really disappointed in the lack of response to the On The Spot rape 'joke' issue from Rooster Teeth. If Barbara's comment is the only one that is going to be made, then I and my girlfriend (and many others I'm sure) are done with Rooster Teeth. To say this really saddens me, because I've gotten so much joy out of your videos the last couple years, and at times they were one of the few bright spots I had. But if you can stand behind the comments made with nothing more than a vague, flimsy warning at the beginning of a video and an equally vague comment by one employee who wasn't even a part of the problem, then I will no longer be able to stomach supporting your company (either with my money or by watching your content).
Whether or not you or others see anything wrong with the 'jokes' made, it has clearly divided your audience, as the number and content of the comments can attest to.
The fact is, rape is a horrific, life-altering event that leaves victims feeling alone and unwilling to trust those around them. I have witnessed the effects firsthand, and know how devastating the aftermath can be.
While I understand the point others make that RT/AH make jokes about murder, suicide, and other controversial topics all the time, the reality is that there is a different perception about rape. Everyone knows and understand that murders and suicides are horrific crimes/events, and the effect they have on those around the victim. On the other hand, many people don't understand the effects sexual assault can have, and some don't even think it's a big deal (I have, unfortunately, also seen that first hand). That this also comes in the midst of the No More campaign (http://nomore.org/), just makes it that much worse.
What I would just ask is that some serious consideration is put into making (or not making) a response. I'm sure you and others at RT have received numerous emails, tweets, etc. about this issue, and it would just be nice to know that the audience is being listened to. Even if it's just a small post on the news feed like "RT will/will not be addressing the most recent episode of On The Spot," at least it would tell everyone what your plans are. If RT decides to say nothing, then I wish you luck, but I will no longer be supporting your company, and I'm sure others would likewise do the same. If RT does make a comment, and sincerely apologizes for what was said, then I will be (admittedly) wary, but you can count on my continued support (I would like nothing more than to continue to enjoy and laugh at your content).
Regardless of how you feel on the issue, I would urge you to remember that Rooster Teeth has considerable weight when it comes to the Internet, and life in general (just look at the numbers you get at RTX). But with the size of the audience you have garnered, comes the fact that an undoubtedly sizable percentage of your audience has been touched by sexual assault in one way or another. Some of that percentage may not care about the 'jokes' that were made, but some of it obviously does. Even if it is a tiny percentage that is offended, the issue here is the continued perception in our society that rape isn't a big deal, and this was, unfortunately, propagated by On The Spot (unintentionally or not). Rooster Teeth has an opportunity in front of it to help change that perception, at least within it's own community.
Regardless of your response, I wish you and yours luck in their endeavors, and I would like to hope that something positive can come out of this.

One of the best things about Roosterteeth is they don't work with many filters. They say and do basically what they want and that is why the community loves them. Yes some statements can be bad but you should either accept it and move on or start ignoring content by that staff member. Although I wouldn't be surprised if everyone on staff has made a comment that would get them banned from a tv show or network.

      Dear Mr. Hullum,

My name is Kyle Usher, and I was hoping to talk to you about some concepts, ideas and scripts I have for an animated series. I currently have four scripts written up, with a fifth in the works, along with a notebook full of script ideas.

I can't draw up an impressive resume, but I am currently taking a Creative Writing College course and have high distinctions in my submitted assessments. I am also interested in studying animation and production.

I don't wish to divulge too much information about my scripts on this platform, apart from the fact that it will be based on the game Minecraft. But I would love to send any and all information I have about the series upon positive response to this message.

In close, I think that this series could be very successful under the guidance of the Rooster Teeth Company.

      Sincerely,

      Kyle Usher

Hi, I'm sure you're already getting flooded with comments about this, but I'd like to add my two cents.
I'd really appreciate if the rtah gang tried to stop their use of the word 'tranny' and the use of the word 'retarded'. Both are pretty awful and make a lot of your community really sad and uncomfortable.
      Thanks!

      Hi there Matt.
due to my mental illness i am unable to write very much about this atm. but i just wanted to say i feel the same way as many of the fans do on the use of slurs in RT and AH.

      Hi Matt,

I know I'm just a face in RT's community, but I'm also a person with feelings and the continued use of hurtful and oppressive slurs from people in your company is making me (and a lot of others) feel isolated from somewhere that used to be a safe-space to laugh and have fun and forget about the shit I face as a trans person, but when those slurs (for example tr*nny) are used by people I look up to, it makes me feel like I'm just a joke to RT instead of a human being.

You guys have thousands of fans - of which some are young and impressionable - and by staying silent and not confronting staff about the language they use you are essentially encouraging people to copy this language in real life because, Hey, Roosterteeth said it so it must be fine!

Please understand that we are not 'offended' by everything, like a lot of your company seems to think. What we are, though, are people who face hardships for being trans or mentally ill or face oppression due to race (most slurs seem to be about these two things) and have had the words some of your staff use so casually thrown with hatred behind them and because of this, it's upsetting. I know your company doesn't intend to hurt, but sometimes it really, really does, and the lack of apology when staff members do say something hurtful makes us feel like RT as a whole just... doesn't care about us.

Please, please talk to your staff about how their language can have a lasting effect, and please do not just blow this off. This is important to a lot of your fanbase.

It would be really nice if you didn't allow the use of transphobic slurs and other derogatory terms (tr*nny, sh*m, r*tard, etc.) in videos. I am a huge fan of Rooster Teeth, and watch and love all of your content. But I am a part of the groups targeted by those words, and it hurts me and hundreds of other fans when we hear them in videos that are meant to make us laugh. I think all we really want is a sincere, public apology from those responsible.

I know it can be hard to remove certain words from your vocabulary, especially if you're used to using them as jokes, but it's necessary when those words are targeted at and meant to hurt specific demographics. When countless people have killed themselves or been killed because of intolerance and hatred, it's time to change something.

      Hello Matt,

I understand you are a busy man with plenty of things to do, but I wanted to be one of the people to bring things to your attention.

Your employees, under the Rooster Teeth name, have previous and continue to use slurs. Ray targeted the trans community in the recent Sniper Elite video. And when asked about it, he simply doesn't care so long as they watch the content. And Gavin has used 'retarded' in reference to another employee. He, and a few members of the staff, belittle someone who is just trying to get an answer and hopefully some closure. Perhaps an apology. For both of these cases, no one received an apology, and it's clear that going forward, there will be no changes. So long as views occur, it seems that they do not care.

Now, I've been a fan of Roosterteeth for some time. I loved the Strangerhood, loved some of the let's plays, enjoyed the animated adventures, and even put money towards Lazer Team, because I was so excited to help you guys out because I really wanted to see you guys succeed. It's hurtful to see these employees, who are all about community and bringing people together and do RTX every year, belittle people who don't seem to be that bro-gamer demographic.

All we really want is a sincere apology for what's happened and an honest effort going forward. These slurs aren't necessary to have a good time, and I'm sure you and the rest of the RT cast know this. I also understand it's not easy to remove these from our vocabularies, and it's always a work in progress, but it's important to at least show that work is being put in. Not just ignored.

I would like to point towards one individual in particular, who is invited to RTX, Arin Hanson/egoraptor of Game Grumps. There was an episode earlier this year where he made horrible jokes and slurs towards a particular person. When he was pointed towards it, he immediately began apologizing as seen here. He did not blame others, he did not laugh it off, he did not only care about the views. He did something about it.

As of now, I will not be renewing my sponsorship and I have unsubscribed to all channels. The years of entertainment were great, but I do not wish to have an experience like I did this past time. I do hope you'll do your best to fix any problems going forward.

      All the best, Debra

Please don't allow the use of slurs (tr*nny, r*tard, m*ng) in videos. They might be only words to some, but those people are very lucky to not have such things hurled at them every day of their lives.
Hearing such words from people at RT/AH can cause massive pain to your fans, and I know that you'd never want to hurt fans. I really hope you'll take some action given the actions of Ray and Gavin over the past week, because the things they've said have been incredibly hurtful and insensitive. This isn't something that can just blow over - you need to take action to improve things.

      Hey Matt,

I understand that you're extremely busy with Lazer Team on top of your regular duties at Rooster Teeth, but I want to bring to your attention a few worrying things some RT employees have been saying.

First of all, in the recent Sniper Elite Let's Play, Ray made a hurtful joke about trans people.
As I'm sure you know the trans community is one of the most ostracised and marginalised groups in pretty much every society around the world, and for Ray to further alienate any trans viewers that may have heard the comments made is really disappointing.
I see a lot of messages to various RT employees about how their content has gotten them through tough times in their life. some fans even mentioning how they watch RT videos to help them calm down after an anxiety attack or ease the pain of depression, all because some funny people played video games for hours on end and filmed it for their viewing pleasure.
Now imagine a trans viewer, (who have some of the highest rates of depression and anxiety) tune in to hear their identity be made a mockery of, and to hear the kind of language that abusive and violent people have used in the past to stigmatise and oppress them and other trans people. I can imagine that hardly helps their mental health.
Since the release of that video and Ray's being made aware that a portion of the community is offended that he found it necessary to use transphobic slurs in a video, he was asked as to whether he would make a journal post addressing the recent problematic behaviour, and he has had this to say.

"Nope. In my experience people will yell at me on Twitter, (I've received like 20 tweets about it today), make a post on tumblr, etc. They are upset about it for like 2 days and then they move on. The best is when some people say "They've lost respect" or "How could you say something like that!?" yet they still follow me on Twitter & probably still watch the content.
It's just one of those things you get used to."

The link to prove the validity of this quote: ask.fm/RNarvaezJr/answer/12261892568...

It is clear by this that he does not care what he says or who he alienates, or offends, because everyone will apparently just forget about it a few days later, which is why he should be held responsible for his actions. He needs to know that he can't just say whatever he wants and get away with it and that his actions have consequences.

Secondly, in the most recent Minecraft Let's Play, Episode 132, Gavin asks Ray if he's retarded, after Ray makes it known that he has not performed as well as the other people in the video. By asking this, Gavin has implied that people who are mentally disabled are worse because of their disability, which is hurtful to yet another marginalised group of people.
Upon asking him why he used such hurtful language in the video he feigned ignorance and openly mocked me on Twitter, by using more hurtful slurs in an unprovoked attack, which can be viewed here:

      tumblr_inline_ng88yiYpJN1qd48de.jpg

It has unfortunately come to the point where Gavin has over-stepped the boundaries of making a questionable and offensive joke in a video, to openly mocking someone in a public forum and conveying himself in a childish and unprofessional manner. He has even gone so far as to delete our interactions on Twitter, hoping to avoid any responsibility for his actions, no doubt.

Of course, I'm not asking you to fire Gavin or Ray, or anything so drastic, as I've seen that they are capable of making amazing and funny videos without having to resort to targeting minorities for a cheap laugh, because when they do, they only serve to validate any impressionable people watching who might now think it's fine to call people hurtful things, because their favourite internet celebrities do it all the time with no consequences.
All I ask is that people be held responsible for their actions and understand that what they did was wrong.
I understand that removing problematic language from our vocabularies is no easy task, as the stereotypes set in place by the society we live in have said that it's fine and even funny to say these things, but just some indication that they're making an effort would be greatly appreciated. It would even be acceptable if, for the first few months it all ends up manually edited out in post production, so long as the problematic language isn't making it into the videos, where impressionable people can hear it.

Thank you so much for your time. I really look forward to hearing back from you.

      Regards, Chris.

First Ray used the t slur, no apology. Second Gavin used multiple ableist slurs, no apology. Can you please tell your employees to stop using slurs. Seriously. 1. There needs to be an apology, anything at all or some sort of acknowledgement that what Ray and Gavin did was wrong and 2. your employees need to watch what they say. Just stop using slurs. It's really simple if you think about. Just apologize and reprimand your employees. That's literally all.

      Thanks

Hey, Matt. I know you're busy with Lazer Team and whatnot, but as a fan of RT, I wanted to bring something to your attention. Recently, a fan asked Gavin about a slur he used during a video. Gavin's reply, and the follow-ups by Meg and Jeremy, have honestly made me lose faith in Rooster Teeth. I was under the impression that RT was supposed to be about 'community'. If its employees are so intent on alienating some of their fans - and yes, there are in fact 'retards' and 'trannies' amongst RT fans - perhaps it's time for RT to remove the 'community' from its tagline. I know it's moving away from the original nature of AH, as Jeremy put it, but with its rapidly growing audience, I think it's irresponsible to act this way towards fans.
Gavin's deleted those tweets now, and it seems he's hoping for this all to blow over. If it does, and there's no apology, I won't be renewing my sponsorship in February, nor will I be continuing to support RT's productions. How can I, in good faith, support people who use me as a punchline?
Having said that, I'm holding out hope that RT will do the right thing. I do enjoy your content, and I'll miss it.
      Thanks for your time.

Hey Matt, I am a fan of Rooster Teeth and all of its many branches of entertainment. Also, getting a hell of a lot of hype for Lazer Team. Anyway, I was gonna ask you about something related to RvB. I know you aren't doing the writing for the show anymore, but you are still playing a major role in the series. The question I wanted to ask waned to ask you, as well as Bernie and Miles, is that if it was okay for my friends and I to make an RvB spinoff machinima series of our own. It would be set in the same plane of existence as the characters in RvB, but it woulod be a completely seperate set of characters and story line and pretty much everything.
