      All in our Minds [IC]

in Forums > All in our Minds [IC] | Follow this topic

The office of Dr. Alexander Bose was a cold, clinical and intimidating place that stood out even in the cold, clinical and intimidating place that was the Osiris facility. There was nothing personal to be found, and even the bare necessities Dr. Bose had deemed fit for his office were placed as efficiently as possible, so as to leave the doctor with enough room to think. He kept his office in pristine order, a reflection, he liked to think, of his own mind.

There was one rather consistent interruption he could always rely on, however, and today was no different.
“And that’s just if those two lunatics are around each other, let alone if they actively start working together,†Sergeant Jonathan Keel said as he paced around Bose’s office. He was complaining, as usual, which told Dr. Bose the world was as it should be. “I swear to God, Bose, this is a disaster waiting to happen!â€
Sergeant Keel’s tirades generally made for wonderful background noise, but every once in a while, the man actually had to be addressed. “Are you arguing against your own competence, sergeant?â€
That clearly caught the man off guard. “What?â€
“Need I remind you that we cooperated on the security measures for today, and that you would not let me leave that particular meeting until you were satisfied we had covered every contingency," Dr. Bose told him. “I deferred to your expertise in many cases, therefore, it seems odd to me that you are now bothering me about this very topic once again.â€

Sergeant Keel grumbled something incoherently, unable to argue the point but entirely unwilling to admit it.
“How about, instead, you go over the security protocol to make yourself feel better?â€
“Don’t patronise me, Bose,†the sergeant said, still just as agitated. “I’m going to check on my men.â€
“By all means, do not let me keep you.â€
The door slid open and sergeant Keel stormed out, no doubt about to ruin someone else’s day. The man had a more traditional door himself, Dr. Bose knew. It made for better slamming.

      ---

Keel stomped through the halls, every single one of his subordinates straightening as he came past. As it damn well should be. He knew people might not take him seriously behind his back, he wasn’t fucking stupid, for one, but they sure as all hell took him seriously when they could see him. He went around to check on the teams of four that would be guiding the freaks to what the doctors had oh so cleverly decided to call the Common Room. Those teams would have to deal with both the subjects and two doctors that were escorting them. Sucked to be them. Delegation was a fucking godsend every once in a while.

Once the lovely little lunatics they were dealing with had made it to the Common Room, they’d be monitored from every angle, with contingencies in place for 8 and 22. He and Bose would be sitting in a room nice and far away, watching the whole thing through cameras so the likes of 1, 4 and 13 wouldn’t be able to fuck with them, either.

Keel was pretty sure that what he was going to see was a disaster unfolding, but Bose was confident in whatever fucking way that this wasn’t going end up with everyone dead, and Keel couldn’t really object in a way the good doctor would listen to, so fuck it, he was going to watch a bunch of kids prance around in their white jumpsuits (personally fitted with their number on their chests, too, because clearly the guys running the damn thing had their priorities straight) and when, not if, when everything went completely to shit, which it fucking would, he’d flood the whole room with knock-out gas and this whole idea would get canned and he could finally sleep at night again.

I hope she'll eventually grow up and take some responsibility, because I don't want Freyja to just not have her mom. But I sure as fuck don't want to be in any kind of relationship for her for a long time.

Its just a lot to have on one's mind.

      • megafire

That does sound like the best case scenario, given the circumstances.

      • Amazing_Cam

I have the kid, yes. There hasn't been any legal involvement, and I doubt there will be since her mom simply doesn't want to take care of her.

And even if she does want to try to go to court, it's I fight I'd win. My parents already said they'd get an attorney if I needed one. Her family is on my side, and she works part time at Kroger.

I'm not terribly concerned about that.

        Do you have custody?

      • Amazing_Cam

At least I'm thinking positively, then.

Well enough really was the most appropriate way to put things. Life's taken a pretty hard left turn for me lately but it's ultimately a change that's for the better.

You might not remember, because you might not have been told, but I've got a seven month old daughter now.
Which is great. I love being a dad. She's a sweet kid.
However, its the relationship I've got with her mom that's been troublesome. We had some issues and she decided she wanted to break up about three months ago. She moved out for a week or two but I let her move back in with me because she still wanted to be friends and I thought maybe things could be worked out.. As it turns out, they couldn't. She hasn't wanted anything to do with the baby in months, she'd rather go party with her friends or sit on the computer all day while her aunt babysits.
I on the other hand work all the time to provide for them, and spend every second I can with my kid.
I finally decided last week that if I was going to be a single parent, I only wanted one child to deal with so I told her she had to go.
Of course, that was the moment she wanted to work everything out and she's been up my ass pretty much since, calling and texting, and frankly I'm over it.
Even her family agrees with my decision, which ought to say a lot about how things have been.

My house is finally clean, and I'm saving money I didn't realize I was spending. My kid is healthy, and everybody and their grandmother is happy to help me out if I ask.

Everyone but her mom, which is just a damn shame.

Who is this person and where does he live?

It looks like he needs a good talking to.

    • Dopp ROLL TIDE

Jesus doesn't come out and say "HOMOSEXUALITY IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO THIS WORLD" because, well... that's just not true.

But, he did talk about marriage and clearly defined it as a man and a woman and talked about that being "natural."

      Matthew 19:4-6

4 “Haven’t you read,†he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’[a] 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? 6 So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.â€

I don't feel like homosexuality should be such a huge issue and I'm not actually opposed to gay marriage completely (people who love each other should have rights protecting their love and all). But it's very obviously not the teachings of the Bible and shouldn't be accepted in church.

Also, most of what I said about continuing the debate was aimed at the other person. I felt like what you said was legitimate and I did expect someone to come back with a non-Christian argument. What you responded with made me want to respond back with this exact response, but I really didn't want to discuss it further. What he/she (idk I didn't click the person's image) said upset me because it's the usual ignorant Christian response online. And it makes us look bad.

      • megafire

I've always wondered why, once you admit not everything is to be taken literally, why you would take expect anything to have been meant literally.

And I also wonder how you'd justify certain events, but I can't ask for specifics without knowing what you do and do not take literally.

I think I'd like to start by asking you about your position on the flood.

      • Dopp ROLL TIDE

I do not think anything in the Bible is wrong. I've listened to enough scholars and great preachers to know what changed from the old to New Testament, what is still relevant today, and what is now meant to not take literally.

I mean, I don't just know a ton, but I have very strong faith in what I believe. I'm just more open-minded than most and know that not everyone shares the same beliefs.

      • megafire

I'm assuming, however, that you also see things in the Bible that you think are wrong, Which means there's already something else that lets you filter what the Bible says, which is what I'd say is actually your morality.

Honestly, given how much missionary work has gone into Africa, it's no surprise they're very religious and look to the pope for guidance. It will take a lot of work to do even the smallest thing about that situation.

      • Dopp ROLL TIDE

And seriously. It's great to have a well thought out, mature discussion about this.

      • Dopp ROLL TIDE

That's the problem, though. Our morality comes from the bible. Because of this we (christians) and you don't even share the same sense of morality.

To be honest, I feel that legalization of gay marriage is a decision that should be made by the government, not a religious belief. And I understand that the pope does actually hold great power, but that's an issue with the governments that follow his every word. I don't even like the concept of a pope and believe that the Catholic Church would be better off without him.

        How's that for reform?

      • megafire

And I can respect that up until the point where it starts to conflict with my own sense of morality. I'm not going to tell you what to do, because, honestly, I have no idea, but if what the Pope preaches is what he believes is just, and people follow him, I will not let him get a free pass just because they're his beliefs.

I guess I see all the commandments of any religion as a product of a greater underlying thought, and if that thought is flawed, it should be fixed. Not to appease the masses, but to stay true to the ideal it's supposed to represent. If you want to be moral and something you believe is not moral, you should change your mind, not out of conformity, but out of integrity. That's what I believe, at any rate.

      • Dopp ROLL TIDE

        I'll be frank about it.

Christian beliefs are going to continue to be less and less popular. Just about everything that we believe will be considered old fashioned and people are going to despise us more and more for this.

What should we do? Give up our faith? Compromise what we believe to be true to appease the masses? If you put this same scenario out to the public but make it a Hindu or Muslim, it would be noble to that person to stand firm against the populous.

For Christians, it's not. I'll admit, a lot of them give us a bad name, but that can be said about a lot of people groups.

I'm ok with it though. I'm just going to keep to my faith, let the times change, and die a happy person.

      • megafire

I did understand your point, though.

I just don't think hypocrisy is such a big deal when your integrity is hurting people.

I guess I wanted this to be a debate on morality moreso than a debate on religion.

      SOB:

I am not roleplaying for the entire galaxy.

I made commentary in regards children destroying action figures. If that represents the galaxy, it must represent a very short part of it.

As far as GNN, this is one news organization spreading out the tale of your actions.

People react to the news from what is considered a credible news source. They may react badly, poorly or stupidly, but they do react. That, in turn, feeds the media beast.

However, I will try to confine my posting to GNN, UNSC Command, and directly impacted governments of the worlds that you will visit in the future. You have to realize that you have been painted badly by both your own actions as well as the propaganda war that is being waged against you. You are not the visitors that bring unicorns, kittens and rainbows. You bring nano-plagues, death and destruction.

You had the opportunity to become heroes. You had the opportunity to join with the Free Traders and save the day. Tea and medals would have followed. That post was ready to roll prior to the sequence starting. I was (and still am) working on creating the Paris Station as a means of supplying logistical support in your war with the ONI and UNSC. Unfortunately, that station is now closed to you due to your killing of Free Traders.

You choose this path you are now on.

On a personal note: I do find it difficult that you bought the line that the Free Traders were engaging in a show of strength... 3 Freighters with improvised weapons putting on a show of strength to a Capital War Ship...

      • megafire

No Dust, this is not your RP anymore. It hasn't been since WMB.

You have absolutely no authority to make any of the claims you are now making. When we left for WMB, we did so to get away from you, and you tried, in vain, I might add, to continue AOB, which was absolutely okay with everyone because AOB was yours.

WMB was not, and SOB is not.

It's about damn time you dealt with that.

      • DustBunny01

GNN is my NPC. Created in AOB and continued through WMB as well as SOB. No one raised objections except now.

I created the Free Traders starting in AOB and continued in WMB and then brought into SOB.

The Blues Franchise is mine. I and three others created it and founded it through AOB. You don't like that, create a new RP without reference to the Blues franchise.

You are taking the Blues Franchise in a direction far removed from anything that was played in AOB. Cam stated and received permission for a new RP. Do it! You are no longer blue, you are no longer the 12th; YOU are pirates. Start your own Franchise and go off being Halo Pirates.

You want to push this, I will take it to a site admin and make a case for the RP to be Locked and that you and all the other admins forbidden from creating another Blues Franchise RP.

You want me gone, start your own Halo Pirate Adventures RP.

      • megafire

Quite frankly, Dust, you don't have the authority or our permission to play GNN, UNSC Command and directly impacted governments of the worlds that we visit in the future.

And, as said, you also don't get to make that call.

You're not our game master, and you do not get to decide the path we take.

You seem to be missing the point entirely. We don't care if you had good reasons, you didn't have the right to act as you did and we don't want you doing it again.

You haven't learned anything from what we told you before your hiatus and we are this close to completely ignoring everything you say and declaring everything you do non-canon.

You also don't have our permission to have your Free Trader RP be in our universe, so therefore, it isn't. Anything you do in your little solo adventure doesn't happen in the SOB universe, so any cross-overs you post cannot happen in our universe.

This isn't your personal sandbox, Dust, and we're not going to let you treat it that way.

The character works with the UNSC, but I feel like posting a character bio in the middle of an ongoing thread would be awkward.

Alright. I don't know how I would integrate a character into that, so I might hold up on trying to join for a while

We conquered a space ship from ONI and have pretty much gone rogue.

Are there any really important things I should know before I read up on a few pages?

      • HeyItsJoe

Ah, I'll do some catching up then and consider what kind of character I should be

      • megafire

Sure, but we're not exactly on good terms with the UNSC at the moment.

Hey dude. Quick question for you regarding the Mafia game you signed up to... just to help me optimise the role distribution on Sunday.
Can you tell me which of these roles you've played in the past (if any) and which of them you'd like to try in this round? Obviously, there are many other roles... these are the major ones with recurring powers. You can pick as many or as few as you like smiley1.gif

      Cop
      Bodyguard/Doctor
      AI
      Psycho
      Vigilante

Not a problem. It's a really interesting concept that we'd like to see put into motion.

Hey, Peter. I don't remember if I ever mentioned it to you but Tzer and I were organized an RP a while ago called Terrarum Dominatum. Essentially, players control nations in a world that is on the verge of World War III. The two of us are working on it again, and I was wondering if you'd be interested in join.

Red's quite a delightful character that way, isn't he?

Like Mega, he doesn't give two shits about subtlety.

      Howdy Mega.

        Hey Cam.

        Thoughts on Red's recent exploits?

    • Amazing_Cam

I was kind of thinking along those lines, too. I'm more focused on my staff, though, so I haven't really put much thought to it.

      • megafire

Hmm, what could I have Cal do?

I think we need to get the divisions more clearly defined, and get people more specialised in their divisions.

Huh, well, that went well. Talking to people just gives me all kinds of ideas, apparently.

    • Amazing_Cam

My thoughts exactly, which is why I passed it along to you.

The way I see it, the admins run things from the outside, and the Command staff from the inside. If we can get both under control, we'll make the game rum more smoothly and in turn, make it more active.

      • megafire

What could I possibly have Levi and Cal do, though?

Hmm, I could have Levi organise misions to investigate nearby chakras, for one.

    • Amazing_Cam

Finch and I (mostly me) are writing up somethings that we're going to assign our admins to do. Things like keep the roster up to date, give proper introductions to newbies, and the like. I suggest that you do something similar for your new Major and Captain. Its about time that those positions stop being bragging rights and start doing something productive.

      • megafire

That sounds like an excellent idea.
