      Hard to the Core

I just recently beat Dead Space 2 on hardcore. After fucking myself over in last 4 chapters with no saves left, I found a way to beat those necro-assholes. I'm sure you can tell I fucking hate those assholes for killing me over and over and over by my vulgar language. Going back to what I was saying, the easiest way to win is run. The last chapter was probably the scariest thing I've ever done in a video game. After winning I'm awarded with...

      50 GAMERSCORE!!

Wow, really? Only 50? My gamerscore is already really low. This is just like the Halo 3 Vidmaster challenges. "Do all this work for 0 GS". I guess these achievements are bragging rights. Almost like beating Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts or getting all the heart pieces in The Legend of Zelda. What can I say now, "I fucking beat Dead Space 2 on Hardcore!" Well I'm going to say that to all the ladies followed by "I'm such a nerd!" then later rejection.

      The Stars Begin To Fall...

Let's start off with me taking my dog outside while it's already dark. I stand still and start singing a song.

"As I raise my head towards the heavens, to take one last look at the moon, the stars begin to fall."

As I finish saying this, a shooting star flies through. Pretty good timing if you ask me. Not sure why this grabs my attention so much, it just seems so perfect. One look at the moon, then the stars begin to fall...

      So Parkour?

I said in my New Year journal that I wanted to get better at freerunning and parkour. And so far I'm making really good progress. Before I tell you of my expedition, I would like tell the world (or the one person reading this) what parkour is. Parkour is a series of body movements used to get you from Point A to Point B as quickly as possible. This will include going over/through railing, climbing up walls, jumping off structures (it's fun when you jump off something that's a good 15ft from where you are landing), and making sure you get there safe and unharmed. This is a fairly dangerous sport but incredibly fun once you get the hang of it. Freerunning is the use of parkour and more to do showy tricks such as flips to lower other people's self esteem.

      So... on to my tale:

I went over to my friend's house after school equipped with a decent pair of running shoes, a white t-shirt, and sweat pants with a paint stain on them... AW, YEAH! After sitting in front of the television for a few hours we decided to play some video games. But first, we decided to go to a convenient store to pick up some snacks. As we started walking, my friend decides we should go to a playground filled with 5 and 7-year-old children. After playing on the swings for 30 seconds, my friend spotted a table nearby and decided to teach me how to do Kong.

For those who don't know, a Kong is a type of common vault where you go over an object by getting a running start, doing a small skip at your last step, placing your hands on the object, and finally propelling yourself over the object. This can be used to clear a gap (in this case a Double Kong is used) or just to simply cut down on time so as to reach your destination faster. I'm sure you're wondering why it's called a “Kong.” Well for one simple reason, you look like some sort of ape or King Kong when you do this. It sort of looks like that ape walk where they use their hands similar to the way we use crutches.

After a brief “Konging” session, we decided to take a walk to the church, only to have been distracted by the nearby shores of Atlantic Beach. We walked on to the boardwalk and immediately jumped off, doing a PK (parkour) roll as we touched down onto the sand. He decided to teach me how to do a front flip, but before he would teach me that, he would teach me the butterfly kick (which is really Tae Kwon Do, but I didn't argue). After trying for 15 minutes I realized my problem... this is Tae Kwon Do, but I kick as if I were practicing Muay Thai. For that, it took me twice as long to get the motion down. After awhile, he decided he would teach me a front flip. So he LANDED a front flip, and then I DID NOT LAND a front flip. So we kept practicing and eventually we stopped after I landed in a position that made it look like I was squatting extremely low and then fell from that position.

Afterwards, he tried jumping and climbing his way from the sandy shores to the boardwalk. Lacking the upper body strength to pull himself up he said, “...see, I'm too weak, so I'm going to 'cheat' by using this [pillar] here to put my feet on and then reach further up the railing.” I proceeded to show off Ma Gunz by pulling myself up the boardwalk without the use of any pillars. Afterwards, we ran on the benches and jumped a 2-5ft gap (the gap actually did vary from time-to-time, but would usually stay at 5ft) in between each bench.

After going all through Atlantic Beach and ending up near Long Beach Town Hall, we decided we would go over there and hang around by some scaffolding. After reaching Town Hall, we did a wallrun up a small 7ft memorial. After we saw the cops we both jumped off the side opposite the cops. Doing a PK roll on the concrete (which hurt both of our shoulders coincidentally) we tried to immitate the the very common, suspicious looking teenager. Our plan worked, the cops left with only a dirty look at us. We played on the “scaffoltin” to our hearts content until we decided we would go to the church we had planned to got to earlier in our voyage.

On our way to the church, we stopped by a tree and jumped on the branches to see how high we can go. We were right in front of someone's house and she eventually came to her house. So we jumped off the tree. We reached another tree by an apartment complex, so what we did might be a bit obvious. Yes, we started climbing the tree. Our joy ended when a man in his apartment looked out at us from his window and yelled, “What are you kids doin' up there?” My friend said in a calm voice, “Nuthin'.” He replied, “Well, how about you get down from there before you hurt yourselves.” We got down and left with a sad look on our faces.

We reached the promised land, the church. My friend spotted two ladies in front of the church talking. He took me into an alleyway on the church grounds. We climbed to a window and tried to get to the roof with no success. The two ladies left so we came out of hiding. My friend showed me another spot (which would have been in sight of the ladies) so we could get to the roof fairly quickly. He did a wallrun to get up there quickly. I was not able to do a wallrun that high so I jumped on something made to serve as a handrail but was incredibly thick and made of brick. From there I found a small foot-hole and well... placed my foot there. All of a sudden I hear, “Oh, crap! Someone saw us!” Confused by what was going on I simply said, “What?” I hear my friend's shoes clap on the ground and say, “Someone- just get down! Just get down!” I was halfway up my climb so I made my slow descent. My friend started to stroll into the alleyway from before as I got back onto the “handrail” from which I started and as I turned to get down I saw some lady look at me and my friend. She screamed something. We didn't know what she said but that we had to leave. I jumped down and ran behind him through the alleyway, back onto the nearby boardwalk, and down it for a 1/4 mile. We walked back home like badasses.
