So I went home for Christmas. Took a nice day of PTO on the 24th with the first flight out of AUS to DTW at 7 AM in the morning. Really thank mom for setting it up and dad for paying for it! Flight was uneventful, met a single serving friend who was going to Ann Arbor for a few weeks and had never heard of MEGAS XLR. I had to rectify this and show him the first episode and the episode with Magnamus (the Bruce Campbell WWF episode) on my iPod. We talked about animes and food, gave him homework assignments to watch MEGAS season one and two along with Space Dandy and when he gets back in town to go over to Via313 on 6th street to get some great Detroit style pizza cause Home Slice still sucks.
Landed and went to my mom's place. Saw Nana and papa to start, they really missed me since the only contact with them has been on Skype on my X1 with multi callers. Afternoon went to my Cousin Charlotte's place and got to see all the family on my mom's side, the polish side. :P
There I retrieved a shirt about the American sniper dude thing, still haven't seen the movie so I don't know who he is, and also the AH plastic cup and straw combo. Gave my little cousin Tommy a copy of Rare Replay on X1 on the premise that these are the games that I used to play when I was his age. Blast Corps, Banjo Kazooie and Killer Instinct Gold were the main picks; not very good at KIG but BC I completed to go to the moon!!! Also my mom got him Fallout 4, but he wanted Far Cry 4. This was an argument I had with my mom about what game to get because FC4 is over a year old and FO4 is brand new and GOTY contender. But he's 11 so he wouldn't get the great feeling of playing FO4 with a playtime of 8 days like I have out of it. Needed to take back the 60$ game and get the 25$ game! Oops.
Was fun catching up with family, calling my bodybuilder cousin a hipster because he looks like one and just general catching up for not being in town for over a year and a half.
After the Christmas party we went back to Mom's and opened presents! This is tradition to open them Christmas Eve because Jewell and I always go to Dad's in the morning so instead of getting up at 6 and then open presents and then get ready to go to dad's at 10, we just sleep in a few more hours, then go right to dad's.
My haul at mom's was A Force Awakens shirt, a pair of Kylo Ren slippers, the Fine Line shirt from the RT store, some socks, candy, beef jerky, Back to the Future 30'th anniversary Blu Ray collection, a food processor (to be shipped to me via ups/FedEx because it weighs about 20 lbs and is as big as my large luggage bag), Guitar Hero Live \m/, Star Wars a New Hope movie poster on wood, Mega Blocks Halo Scorpion Tank, and a game from Amazon I want, grabbed WRC 5 with that choice. Gave my sister a Blu-ray of the avengers 2, a University of Michigan Wolverines license plate cover and also her POS HP laptop that I have had since my uncle's funeral a few months back. STILL COUNTS AS A PRESENT CAUSE IT WAS BOXED! One of her presents is still incoming from China post so there will be a pillow in mid January apparently... Also money. All the money I got for Christmas went to getting a new Evga Nvidia GTX 970 refurb from Newegg.
Next day took off to Dad's and saw his family. Gave dad some pants that he needed new ones of after ejecting a hot shotgun shell into the pocket of. First time firing it and didn't know how the spent casings ejected. Got from him a set of Pur water filters because I don't like how Austin water tastes, a silver coin, a couple of dollar coins, and then 2 presents to be ordered; A Water pik with electric toothbrush and a bitchin' computer case, The Thermaltake Chaser MK-I. See here way it is so awesome. THOSE COLORS AND CABLE MANAGEMENT! Ordered with my Newegg account and dad gave me the cash so that I can write them off on my taxes for work expenses because a computer case and video card are needed for a computer to work. Just maybe a lil bit extreme for writing notes and taking control of other people's computers.
After dad's was over we went home and then STAR WARS 7! Only spoiler is that is a star wars ass star wars movie which is what we wanted after the prequels. All I have to say is that I want to see it again, so it's got that going for it. Would have been better if a major plot point wasn't spoiled by my cousin the night before >.< (Edit, I have seen it twice now)
After that it was just hang out time until the next day, ended up watching the new TFS Episode 51, ALL of SAO abridged and Gundam Wing the abrigen-ing with Marc. Anime abridges for the win!!! It's dumb that I know the names of the main characters in SAO; I still have trouble with family member's names!
Saturday morning I was supposed to go to JD's Karting up in Sterling Heights with my cousin Chris, the one who works at ford and does autocross wherever they hold it at in his 07 Mustang GT, but plans changed when nana and papa wanted to go to lunch with me. Nana and Papa override any other plans so we went to Buddy's Pizza! The Pizza that Via 313 is inspired by. It was good. Then just because we went shopping the day after Christmas. Replaced the FO4 at Meijer with FC4 at Best buy because of price matching. I also picked up Need for speed for 27$ there. Price Matching is great! Lose money on this mediocre game while I gain easy 1K GS!!! Also bought mom a 16 GB San Disk Flash drive for the house because it was 4.99. Memory is getting cheap.
Saturday night we went to some Jazz Club in Detroit where we met up with mom's friends. We had soul food!! And yes it was way outside my diet getting catfish deep fried with a loaded baked potato with cheese and bacon and Broccoli. The music was nice, when the audio system didn't have infinite playback loop to destroy eardrums. Overall nice place, car didn't get broken into so that's a plus. Also I think it was because the parking attendant wanted all the white people to park up front so he could keep an eye on our cars while we were inside. Our entire group of people all seemed to park in the same place, near the front next to the parking stand. And our timing was about 5-20 min apart per person.
Sunday morning was my flight home. Well supposed to be. It's a direct flight from DTW to AUS at 8:35 am. With my experience at the airport takes typically 20-40 min to make it through the TSA Theater so I figured leave the house at 7 am and make it with plenty of time. This time though, I woke up late, day was skewed to continue late, and the lines were super full up for the pervert machines. Got in line at 7:30, got out of line at 8:25. Now to make it a super bitch is that my flight was leaving out of gate B18. The Southwest end of the airport, where I started was the east tip of the airport. Ran from security to the corridor connecting A to B and C, to the stairs where I saw a sign with the flight to Austin still boarding so my pace dropped to a gasping for air quick walk. Showed up to the door, with the screen in back, at 8:31 but the jet bridge door was now closed. Waited around to see if the desk agent would come back, nope! The jet bridge moved away from the plane at 8:36. Contacted mom and she rebooked me for the next and only flight out, DTW to AUS at 3:24 PM. Well shit, I'm late for work! Called my boss that early and informed his VM that I was going to be a lot late into work because I'm stuck 1000 miles away. So just headed back home and slept for more time until I had to be back at the airport. THIS time through it was a quick walk trough security of about 10 min and got to the gate at A77 by taking the tram and not running a single step. Ended up late to work by about 7 hours and only got in 40 min of work but all was good with my boss because I gave him a 7 hour heads up.
Days have past since I wrote the above part on the plane trip home. The flight was fun as we landed 30 min later than scheduled and then had to wait on the tarmac for an hour and a half to pull into a gate. Finally got off the plane and drove home for a bit of work. Since then I've received my goodies of secret Santa present, another AH Flag from the RT Store but the really funny thing is that my SS was who I had. @Igor99 , I know this because the shipping invoice was in the package. Still don't know if he got my present yet… WRC got in the mail, it's fun because I like rally racing but it's so realistic with the damage you take just by running over a bush. Lil annoying but cool at the same time.
Overall the visit home was nice and I got some sweet swag for the entire trip. And on New Year's Eve I even built my computer with the new GTX 970 and Computer case!
Compare old case to new
and look at the inside.
SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES!!!
Cable management is nice when you have 3/4 inch of space under the mobo.
