    • Photoshop A Picture For Me?

      trefu

Does anyone have time to make a collage/picture/etc. for me? I can pay you in virtual hugs or maybe like $10 over Paypal?

One of my best friends, Sara, is moving to Brooklyn in less than a week to pursue a Masters degree and to just move on to bigger and better things.

I'm trying to create a picture that will remind her of all the great times she and I have had together.

Would anyone be able to help?

      Even suggestions would be awesome.

Having a social life is killing me.

I rarely sleep and if I do, it's rarely at home.

      Ugh.

Does anyone want to trade? I want to be a loser for one week again.

    • Dan Savage and Terry Miller at Shadle

      trefu

So, Dan Savage (noted journalist/memoirist/etc.) and Terry Miller (Dan's husband), who started the It Gets Better project were in Spokane tonight.

Terry actually went to Shadle Park, the same high school that I went to. He is a little over 10 years older than me, but most of the things he said were still true about our high school when I went there.

It was really cool to hear them talk.

My dad went with me and he said he learned a good amount. He's the more accepting and understanding of my parents. My mom will probably never really understand the GLBT stuff in my life or about me, but she is still accepting.

Anyway, the Gay-Straight Alliance at my high school put on the event, which is CRAZY, because the idea of a Gay-Straight Alliance at Shadle didn't even exist when I went there. The only openly gay kid in my entire high school career left after one semester because of bullying.

So, it was interesting to go back after 6 years and attend an event like that.

Today has been a pretty great day, besides finding out that my mom is still not as understanding as she should be at this point.

    • Just Friends Sucks

So, Jim decided he wanted to just be friends because he doesn't want to hurt my feelings.

Whatever the actual reason, it sucks.

    • Awesomely Awkward

      trefu

So, my friend wrote "Homo," on my Facebook status. My friend is gay though and was just saying it as a joke since my status was about Glee.

My brother ended up seeing it and saying that if my friend kept that up that he was going to kill him.

      Awkward!

But, that means my brother really cares! And that he'd defend me in my sexual orientation! That's awesome to me! It's the first time I've ever seen him act like that. Usually he just completely ignores the idea that I like men. This is a step!

But, now I think I have to go explain to him that gays saying things like homo is kind of like black people saying things like the n word, but I'm not even sure I agree with that thinking.

    • Another Interview

      trefu

So, I got another interview. It's doing call center work though. Ugh. It's $11.20/hour at least, which is not what I deserve, but better than nothing.

I'm just dreading going back to a call center. Ugh.

Also, Jim, the guy I'm seeing is really bad at communicating and I'm really confused. I feel all emo and clingy about our relationship. I'm always the other guy. This sucks. I'm not sure what to do. Ugh.

I'm going to post a Friends Only Journal after this one. I always forget that I can get outside feedback on here.

I'm just letting you guys know because I'm not exactly sure who reads my blog.

I know Bey does and so, I added her (hopefully she accepts, fingers crossed haha). But, I'm not sure about anyone else I'm not already friends with.

If you would like to read the journal, ask to be my friend and we will see haha.

The laundry room is right next door- basically they converted the two bedroom next to me into a one bedroom and made their second bedroom the laundry room for the building. There are only apartments in my building that share it. The laundry machines are fairly old and coin-operated, but they're less than laundry here and there's a nice place to fold clothes, etc. It's not a big enough downside to be a dealbreaker, as it's really steps outside my door.

I'm guessing the guy just has a cheap camera phone but when he saw the 'klingons around uranus' he took one picture then got bold and swooped in for a closeup.

I would call the pacing of World's Greatest Dad typical indy quirky. I just liked that rather than having some revelation that the son was deep down a good guy, we find out just what a shit the dad can be. And that ending where he's with his real friends? Sort of found that refreshing too, because in life people who aren't so nice have real friends too.

I just don't think any of those three guys are particularly good guitarists. Page is probably the best of the three, he certainly has a distinctive style, but he's sloppy. There are very convincing arguments that he is also a huge plagiarist who doesn't, like Clapton for instance, acknowledge the people he 'borrowed' from.

I am indeed a fan of Ritchie. With RocknRolla he seems to have regained his magic. Really happy that RDJ seems to have gotten his shit together and isn't spending long hiatuses in rehab/jail. He's one of my favorites these days and it seemed for years that it would be only a matter of time before an overdose would end his brilliant career.

You should check out World's Greatest Dad with Robin Williams. I thought based on the title that it would be this corny Patch Adams schmaltz. No... This is so dark. Cringingly so. His best movie since One Hour Photo. Bobcat Goldwait wrote and directed. He also did Shakes the Clown and Sleeping With Dogs.

Yeah, I've known about it for a while. Very smart move on the part of the Twilight marketers. Sucks to see so many respectable indie groups on there, but if there was any time I would feel completely guiltless pirating an album, it would be in this instance.

I noticed something, we agree on a movie. Away We Go was fantastic. It was co-written by Dave Eggers. Didn't know that until the credits rolled, but it makes sense and I'm so glad to see this guy making a name for himself in movies. His loosely autobiographical book A Heartbreaking Work Of Staggering Genius left such a impression on me. Got his first novel in the pile of stuff I have been meaning to read, now I'm inspired to get around to it. He also co-wrote the screenplay for the upcoming Where The Wild Things Are, which is getting effusively positive reviews. Eggers teamed up with Spike Jonze to bring this book to the screen? Can't wait.

Interesting. There were parts of it I really liked. The story, for sure, and the acting was good. There was something about the tone, or the pieces just didn't quite hang together. Or perhaps I just wasn't in the mood, that happens sometimes.

Last week I watched a movie called Sugar, about a Dominican coming to the US to play minor league baseball, hopefully make it to the pros. It really captured what his life was like back home in just a few scenes, much the way RyC did. And it reminded me of visiting family in Panama. And it had great music. Recommended.

That's probably exactly when I'd head back- I have job training that starts tuesday morning and need to connect with my staff before then. But PAX should be fun and I'm sure if you don't go to PAX itself, there will be plenty of evening stuff going on.

Yeah idk. For that matter I could probably borrow a bat from my neighbor and bring it up myself. We actually usually use wooden sticks (things like broom handles or just long wood pole-like things we got at the hardware store) most of the time, but I know he has a regular whiffle bat.

I was torn on Guide. Good cast, tough to resist anything with RDJ. Always up for autobiographical stuff. On the other hand the premise, divine intervention of some sort, think I've made it clear how silly I think that is. But I put it on my queue anyway, will watch it sometime next week.

well aren't you the cool, undergroud, hip guy with your knowing of album releases before a musician's biggest single is on the radio.

      also:

"It was released as the album's third single in early 2008"

the song may have been OUT in 07, but it wasn't a single until 08.

saturdays = youth is awesome, regardless of what you say. their other stuff really doesn't grab me as much.

i <3 los campesinos!. they always put such a smile on my face. i always feel like dancing when i put them on.

modern guilt was really good, imo. beck's best in a while. we've been over this, though.

paper planes was RECORDED in 07, but it wasn't released until february, i believe. i don't think m.i.a. is really good, tbh. i just like that song.

08 was kind of lame for movies. 07 was better. i just went with what i personally enjoyed the most.
