Physical Media vs Digital MediaI'm definitely old fashioned when it comes to books, music and movies, probably more so with the former. Physical Media vs Digital MediaI'm definitely old fashioned when it comes to books, music and movies, probably more so with the former. I did computing and science based courses in college, software engineering at university and I work in the IT industry. And yet for some reason the thought of downloading ebooks or having music and movies stored on a hard-drive with no physical copy, makes me cringe.
I think it's the romantic in me. In every sense of my life I'm always looking for the practical solution. How to bleed the most efficiency out of everything I do and streamline everything. Compact and compress. Yet when approaching the subjects of books, music and film, I'm rendered into this idealistic starry-eyed lover that will miss the sight of stuffy bookshops and leafing through the inserts of albums.
It's not that I'm not aware of the advantages, they are blatantly obvious. Downloading something off Amazon, iTunes or any other similar site is quicker, easier, better for the environment and reduces production costs often making it cheaper. Yet here I am amid shelves stacked high with a double depth of books, films and movies. Sentimental clutter.
I see two roads from here. I can take the logical course of action and change my entire outlook on media enjoyment, or I can buy more shelves and possibly a cat. I shall call him Lloyd.
