I just like having these kinds of things figured out. I mean, what if I decide to commission art sometime in the future that's a group shot of some of my characters. I gotta be able to tell the artist who's taller than who and by approximately how much so they'd know how to scale the picture. I PREPARE FOR EVERYTHING!

Howdy I'm dropping back in with a new oc. It's the second member of team UTMN (Ultramarine). (First one was a bit ago, Umber Shaw: Card boi. I'm pretty proud of the semblance on this oc.
Name: Thomas “Timber” Groves
Thomas’ emblem is that of a gas mask, with bearing sharp teeth. The background of the emblem displays a cloud of gas. The entire image is that of a medium green hue.
His gear consists of a gas mask that sports twin air filters on each side, with two eye holes for Thomas to see through. The glass of the eye holes are tinted black on the outside, with Thomas himself being able to see through on his side perfectly fine. The mask sports a nice and sleek black colouring and over top the mask, with across the mask is a shark tooth grin, similar to that of the art that the US military would paint on missiles. On top of the mask, he dons a hood that is attached to his overcoat. Next, his dark green, almost seaweed green coloured overcoat that he has buttoned up most of the time with mocha brown colored buttons. Along with the buttons are the belt that has the color of sand, with the buckle being golden. The coat goes down to just above his knees, and the torso region is padded to protect against powerful impacts. Thomas sports moss green coloured gloves that he keeps on his hands, the gloves themselves have small duds on the knuckles, allowing him to have an edge in hand to hand. His trousers sport a very clean dark green like his coat, though a slightly lighter hue than the coat. Underneath and tucked in, are his combat boots that are a mocha brown color, with the laces being a sandish color, like the belt. Finally, on his back lies a large gas canister with small twin canisters on his thighs that house various dust crystals. Underneath his combat gear and clothing, Thomas is roughly 5’8 with darker/tanned skin underneath. His hair his styled back with the sides shaved off, leaving a slight fade and on his face, lies a neatly styled goatee. His eyes are a bright teal, with a small scar going down his left eye.
Thomas is rather stoic in nature, as he takes everything with professionalism and with a firm attitude. He is a strong believer in self-improvement and has been someone who prefers to improve themselves over recreational activities. Though his image of a dry cracker might be all that’s seen to others, Thomas hide’s this due to an on-going thought of trying to be better than anyone else. Not from spite or anger, though from a simple need of being accepted by others. In reality, he’s a very caring individual who has a very strong passion in animals and studying the effects of dust, though believes that they will get in his way of achieving the title of greatest huntsman.
Weapon: Armorum Fratrem
A trio of gas tanks with one on his back and two smaller ones on his sides, hanging downwards along his thighs. The canisters are filled with various types of dust gas that are separated in their own respective compartments. To reload these canisters, the valve located on the top of each canister is able to be opened and various slots. The most common types of dust that Thomas inputs into these canisters are: gravity, fire (burn) dust, ice dust, air dust and earth dust. All though, Thomas has been known to switch out a few of the types of dust in favor of others, or to stockpile two of the same type, as he believes he may need more.
The way the canisters work, is that once the dust is in place, the canisters will take the powdered dust and transfer them into a gas. The canisters are unable to do this with crystallized/raw dust as crystallized dust will not work due to the canisters being unable to transfer them into the gaseous form. One of the main reasons of this is the general size and shape of the raw dust. Upon the dust being transferred into a gas, Thomas is able to manipulate this gas. He is able to turn the powder into gas on his own, but the canisters and tanks accelerate that potential centerfolds.
The canisters have a simple reason on why there are two smaller ones and a single larger one. It is a simple tactical advantage, as Thomas is able to make use of the smaller ones on his sides, while the one on his back can be used for much more potent and powerful strikes.
The appearance of the canisters are not extremely spectacular, as they are a simple steel colored tanks with small etchings of golden markings going up and down it, giving a small hue to a noble background. The valve sports a clean crimson red coloration along with the base of it, being a ring that has a small little trinket dangling off. This trinket is a pin to a hand grenade. The larger tank on his back has a similar appearance, though has a a few more commodities along its body that serve no purpose but to stylize it. These include more decorative markings and his emblem right smack dab in the middle.
Semblance: Gas, Gas, Gas (Green Aura)
The semblance is rather simple, though very effective as it allows Thomas to have manipulation and control over gaseous forms of dust. This means he cannot tear the air out of your lungs but can fill them with burn dust gas and ignite it. Regardless, the power can only be focused on one type of dust at a time, though can be switched to other types at an instant. To combo the gases with one another, Thomas will have to time his strikes to make sure the gases strike one another before he activates them. He is able to on command to transfer powdered dust into gaseous forms, but this will take some time before the form can be fully set. The forms that the gases take are also manipulable by Thomas.
Fire (Burn) Dust:
Thomas’ ability over this dust type, allows him to send blazing gases towards his
opponents, singing and burning them as they make their way towards the target.
Upon ignition, the dust will erupt in flames, creating an explosion equal to that of
a standard issue M67 hand grenade. Those caught in the range of the blast will
not only feel the knock back but be covered in flames.
Thomas is able to manipulate ice dust in a way that he can immediately solidify
the gaseous forms to create structures with them. Though these structures are
much more used for offensive capabilities as their durability is not so very
efficient. The most common use of it is creating shards of ice from the gas and
sending it towards the target. Another very common use is creating a pillar to
slam into the enemy with tremendous force.
Similar to the ice dust, the earth dust is used to create defences or structures that
could hinder opposing forces, stopping them in their tracks. Upon the gas being a created, the gas has the appearance of a dust cloud (get it?) and upon solidification, it can create large structures of rock that are composed of a dark brown. The most used applications of the earth dust are: creating outwards spikes to deter opposing groups from charging Thomas, usually used on grimm that attempt to leap or charge at him. Another use is to create a wall-a simple defense piece that can act as fortifications. Thomas is able to place the gas over a destroyed piece of a structure and with the gas, he will be able to solidify it, roughly filling the missing piece.
The use of air dust in its gaseous form is similar to air manipulation in a sense.
Though of course much more nerfed. The general uses of the air dust is for
crowd control, as the general uses of it are creating sudden blasts of wind to
topple foes onto their backs, or even creating small tornadoes to separate team
members and grimm by tossing them about. The focus of it is almost similar to
the earth dust, as it only attempts to hinder individuals.
The use of the gravity dust is almost exact to the air dust usage, though the only
difference is that the gravity dust is more for holding individuals in place, as once the gas is activated, there will be a gravity field applied with the effects either being low gravity or heavier gravity, in which it works as both crowd control and support.
Thomas uses lightning dust scarcely, as he never really needs or has more uses
for the other types. Though when he does make use of it. He uses it to generally power things or create a field of lightning that either incapacitates or stuns foes. Generally he may bring it along if going underground.
A general use for the water dust is crowd control and survivability. This dust is
much more unique than the rest but is the least used in Thomas’ arsenal. The
main use for it is to release bodies of water out into the open to either hinder or
trap opponents. Though, he is known to use this dust and turn it into water itself
to replenish himself and to hydrate himself and his team. This is one of the many
reasons why Thomas is the team's support.
Techniques: (Not limited to, though are favourites of his)
Hellfire & Brimstone: The mixture between fire dust and earth dust in which firstly earth dust is used to trap the opponent in a dome of rock, with a small hole that’s exposed. This hole is then filled with fire dust gas and immediately erupted with the rocks that are left from the explosion being sent into the target. This technique is mainly used against Grimm, as it is extremely dangerous and violent.
Tank Round: This technique is a mixture of the use of fire dust, air dust and a projectile. Firstly, fire dust is applied in gas form and then the projectile is lifted up by being pushed upwards by air dust, this is then followed up by a high powered explosion with the air dust blasting the projectile in the opposite direction and immediately detonating the fire dust, causing the projectile to move at immense speeds.
Hailstorm: The technique uses both ice and air dust to create an intense storm of razor sharp shards of ice. Firstly the ice dust is sent into the air and immediately turned into the shards of ice, in which they’re caught by the air dust and spun in a clockwork fashion, being sent across the battlefield, as being near it runs the risk of being struck by a few of the ice shards and being inside it will have you being hit with multiple shards.
Thomas’ fighting style consists of full range support and damage. He has decent hand to hand training, though he mainly excels in using his ability on the field.
Born in Vacuo to Samara and Vinron Groves, the young Thomas had been raised in a middle class life, despite the harsh nature of those living in Vacuo. His family was rather tough on him when it came to academics as they pushed him to be the best he could. Even when it was sometimes to much for the young man, he still persevered and pushed onwards. Before attending school, he was never really one or even exposed to the pleasures of luxury, as his mother and father had him focused on his musical studies and studies of the arts, as they believed it would give him a head start from all the other young huntress’ and huntsman that were attending their rightful schools. Much of Thomas’ life was focused on studying as many of the kids who knew him, gave him the nickname of “Timber”, as a mockery that one day all that he worked for would fall apart. This pierced Thomas rather painfully as he never really got to experience things he wanted to do. Upon entering Shade Academy after passing the entrance test with flying colors, and this is where he met his friend, Umber Shaw. Him and Umber were partnered up and placed with two others that made up the team UTMN or team Ultramarine. His first few weeks at Shade were rather enjoyably as his new teammates introduced a few new activities to him, giving him a sense of enjoyment for once. During a gathering of which students would shadow a teacher, Thomas along with the rest of the team had to go to an abandoned region in which they had to scout out the levels of grimm that were present. The team was rather overconfident and caused a very large explosion, in which Thomas scolded the three of his team. The instructor had pulled him aside, explaining to Thomas that, regardless of what happened they’re still his team and that despising them or keeping his distaste for them won’t solve anything. Once this was over, he stayed in Vacuo, continuing his studies to one day travel to Mantle to work as an engineer.
Thomas’ semblances name is a reference to Initial D’s song of the same name.
Thomas is an extremely talented piano player. He continues his studies in playing the piano from time to time, whenever he isn’t training himself to death.
Despite the name “Timber” being a name that was used to mock him, the other members of Thomas’ team use it as a sort of code name. This made Thomas embrace his nickname.
His name Timber, which is a shade of gray and grove which alludes to the color green.

In reply to vohxus I'm not a big fan of semblances that deal with dust manipulation. Dust are a human-manufactured thing. It doesn't make sense to me for an innate superpower to be finetuned to something so specific. Why not give him control over gases in general at that point, and just have him use dust gases because they're "easy" to manipulate or whatever? You could use the excuse that manipulating natural gases is very taxing on his aura, or much more difficult to do, requiring more training, with that being the reason he uses dust primarily. I'd be much more accepting of that.

Technically, dust does occur naturally. It just needs to undergo human processing to have the best efficiency. To quote volume 1 Weiss: "This is dust, MINED and PURIFIED from the Shnee quarry!" Then later we get references to Ilia's parents being dust miners. So yeah, dust is basically magic chalk, but I do have to agree that dust manipulation semblances just don't feel right. My reasoning for not like dust specific semblances has more to do with how the WOR on dust made me feel like dust was more or less the coal of the RWBY world, a non-renewable resource that is dwindling faster than the people of remnant seem to realize (or just more than they are willing to come to terms with). It seems weird to have a semblance that ONLY works on a SINGLE mineral. Why not just have a pseudo-earth-bending semblance with a few extra drawbacks to balance it out instead?

I'm not entirely sure yet, but it's possible I just got some new RWBY OC inspiration (I'm definitely gonna use it as character inspiration, but I'm not sure yet if I want to use it as RWBY OC inspiration or Homestuck OC inspiration).
....Who's Stan Lee?
#33744745 - 4 months ago
Your joking right? Stan Lee is one of the founding fathers of Marvel Comics. Alongside Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he created The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers and coutless other characters. Not only that, but he also served in WWII with Dr. Seuss. He was a king among men. And he will never be forgotten.

I never really pay attention to who the creator is for any form of media. I just enjoy the content and move on. If I didn't watch reaction videos, I wouldn't be able to tell you the names of any of the people working on RWBY. And even watching react videos I can only recall two names (Miles and.... Carry? Is that how you spell it?) because they get brought up almost every time.

The act of existing and/or being present doesn't make me aware of their existence and/or presence. I didn't know who he was, so how would I know who I'm looking at when he makes said cameo? I probably would have assumed he was just a reoccurring extra. And that's assuming I notice him, and realize that it was the same person every time I saw a Marvel movie.

It only took about a million years, but I think I just finished a design for Azurite's symbol that I'm happy with, meaning he's now my second RWBY OC with a 100% complete bio!
Also, I F*@#ING HATE MS PAINT!That being said, I'm tempted to post his bio now, but with as many times as I've raved about the SIN-dicate and it's members, I'm not sure if anyone here hasn't already had an opportunity to see everything else on it. So, quick pole, has anyone not seen Azurite's bio and would either A. like to see it out of curiosity, or B. want to give a review of the bio now that it's actually 100%?
