Now, I'm sure many of you will be very happy with this decision. But perhaps more of you will be upset with it.

Up until this point, my view of moderation has been to simply go along with what the majority likes to do. I hate to close any threads that you guys are enjoying. But GUESS WHAT? You dumb fucks ruined that. There's no reason that more than half the threads on the first page should be forum games.

I've been hating these threads ever since you idiots started making them a few years ago. But since SirMuffinMan left because of it, I've decided to do something. He's right. Forums are for DISCUSSION, not CIRCLE-JERKING BULLSHIT that a lot of you guys seem to love.

So I have created a new policy. It's not official moderator policy, it's personal policy. The other mods can decide to join in if they like.

Threads where replies should NOT be made in paragraph form. They will be made up of single word, fragment, or picture responses.

Threads that are not open for discussion. Threads that are about continuing from what the person above you directly said, or a direct response to a question posed in the first post.

POST RANDOM ANYTHING SHIT HERE THREAD Google Image Search, random funnyman pictures. Whatever.

I have asked a couple of mods, and they agree with me on this. If there is a gigantic uproar, I might change my mind, but for now, bow to my wrath. You guys killed one of my favorite members at this forum, and I am angry at you.

    Continue on.

EDIT: Don't send them to me in the help out a mod "program." I do appreciate your guys' help, but I would prefer to keep this little moderating endeavor a bit more independent. Again, thanks for all your help.

Did anybody actually read what he said?

Max listed several qualities a game thread can have for it to be allowed. He Never Said No More Game Threads!

Hell there are two of them still going right now. And the Basement is not the place where (almost) anything goes. It is the off-topic forum, not the shithole for the rest of the forum to come and spam to their hearts content without fear of reprocussion. You should show this forum the same respect you show any other.

More of my genius from later in the thread!:

    The Walrus speaks.

I spent about 12 hours in airports and planes yesterday. Then I spent time with my family. I have just turned on my laptop, and I see that, on the day of family seeing and thanks and turkeys you are all busy thinking about this shit. 137 replies have been made since last I checked. The only people who have an excuse are foreigners. The rest of you need to stop posting in this thread, and need to start telling your family that you're thankful for them or something.

Here's my final word (well, probably not final), and I'll try to clear up all the questions I've seen.

I locked the threads because they had begun to take over this forum. This is NOT a game forum. This is an off-topic forum. The games were preventing off-topic discussion.

Games are NOT banned from the forum. I will continue to lock game threads that I view as stupid or mindless. These decisions are up to the moderators, not you. Sorry, but that's just how it is. We can't appease everybody.

SMM's departure DID inspire my decision, but I have been wanting to do this for months. SMM and I barely talk at all. I like him, and I don't know if he likes me (he did at some point). Frankly, I don't care though. We're not really e-friends. We chat occasionally, but that's it. There was no discussion about this decision, no conspiracy. He simply made me realize what had to be done, and I'm glad that what I did made him come back. But I did not do it so that he would come back. I did it because the threads had to go.

Suggestions are nice and all, but they really are not as helpful as you might think. 98% of your suggestions require CG to modify the forum somehow. I believe that costs Roosterteeth money, and so features are added during forum updates. v. 1.5 is coming soon, and hopefully that will mean that we can add forums. Three forums I would like to add are the moderator forum (we used to have one, but it became the subscriber forum, but you assholes ruined it for us), an unmoderated forum (not completely, but none of this content-standard bullshit that we have in the basement), and maybe a game forum. But even something as simple as forum creation is beyond reach currently. So all these suggestions about automation are really not very plausible at all.

I will not change my mind about the decision I have made. No amount of arguing or insulting will make me change my mind. I support the creation of a game forum or another forum where you can make games, but that forum will never again be the basement. That is final.

I thought the basement was designed to be a place to have random stuff, some of those threads were fun, thats why a lot of people participated in them. Yes there were some idiotic games but there were some good ones that were a little more intelligent. I enjoyed those threads and am disappointed you locked them. If this is just me I'll shut up but I doubt I'm the only person that feels this way. It is your prerogative to lock threads I just think that maybe you overdid it by killing all the games.

Frankly, I'm not pleased with the decision and not just because two of my three threads fell victim to this decision. As for SirMuffinMan, I have my opinions about him which I will reserve for those who care. I will respect your prerogative as a MOD to enforce the decision, but would ask that a forum subdivision be created for those who wish to participate in the said games. I've made most of my friends from these and, in PM'ing with some of them, most have agreed that they aren't particularly fond of the decision either. Therefore, I'm submitting my unofficial request for a reponse and/or PM regarding the matter. It would be greatly appreciated.

    In reply to katanafleetd, #6:

Here's how I look at it:

There are a lot of things that are fun, but are not meant for the forums.

Sexually harassing girls is fun, but we are trying to find solutions to curb that.

Looking at porn is fun, but you can't post it everywhere.

Making drunk threads are fun, but there's too many people for that now (it used to be encouraged). This is probably the most pertinent example.

The same goes for game threads. They can be fun, sure, but they stop being fun when they are the majority of the forum. At Drunkgamers, I loved drunk threads. But we didn't have 50,000+ members there. I could tolerate game threads at RvB when they were first starting, but now they are destroying discussion by knocking all of those to other pages.

I entirely agree with SMM on this issue, and I am disappointed that he was forced to leave because of it.

I'm not really annoyed that you wouldn't support my idea, I see your reasons for not wanting it, but you could all at least offer serious suggestions that we could alternately use.

There are 15 game threads on the front page right now, out of a total of 32 threads. It's tragic that Word Association 2.0 can stay on the front page, but we need to constantly bump something like the Post Pictures Of Yourself Thread. I've been trying to keep the place amusing, but all attempts at starting minor chaos or otherwise are always ended by the moderators, the same moderators who still keep threads like "post a pic to own the one before" alive and kicking for the unintelligent masses who are now a major portion of the population of this forum.

This place is going to complete hell and I'm tired of trying to fix it.

If you have another solution, then this is the thread for discussion. Here is my solution. If no one thinks of another one, it's what we're going with.

Again, if you can think of a game ti follow Max's criteria, a game that requires more than a GIS or single word or phrase response, then go for it

How about a forum subdivision to host those threads??? I think it would keep everyone happy by giving those who want them what they want and keeping the other subdivisions free of topics they don't.

    In reply to jamoan, #8:

    (I) would ask that a forum subdivision be created for those who wish to participate in the said games.

I agree. I want this to happen. Unforutunately, new forums are not being created, like a mod forum for example. This is a problem that is not getting addressed, and one that mods have no control over.

One thing I have asked for is a forum worse than the basement. Mostly unmoderated -- it would be for you fucknuts to do pretty much whatever you want in. If a game forum is a better solution than an unmoderated forum, then it will be discussed.

    In reply to MaxWalrus, #10:

I do see your point on this, there were a lot of them. Except it would take a lot of work I agree with jamoan that it would be cool to have a games section so that good discussion could take place here and people could play games if they choose too. There are times when it is just enjoyable to hang out on a fairly unintelligent game, it is fun occasionally. I wish we could limit it to some of the more enjoyable ones and just leave those alive.

    In reply to katanafleetd, #14:

What are the more enjoyable ones? The ones you participate in? So many people think that so many different games are enjoyable that it's impossible to differentiate.

I am doing something for you "peons." I'm trying to encourage discussion. Hell, I even made a thread for people who DIDN'T like my action to give their input. I could have just as easily not.

Do you think I'm doing this just because I hate you guys? I am a forum member just like any of you. I've been here for several years. This is the third website that these guys have made that I've been to. I am a moderator because I've been part of this community/culture for some time now. I have had a part in shaping it to what it is today. I am simply trying to do what I think is best for the forum.

And as far as insults go, get over it. I didn't anywhere shoot down anyones ideas, nor did I call anyone in particular a name. I don't think I owe any of you any more than that.

That's why I said "mostly unmoderated." Basically, no content control, but nothing illegal/inappropriate.

But that's assuming that CG would let us make ANY forums at all.

I personally am very happy to see this happen. Sure I enjoyed participating in a couple of them, but like SMM said, they were taking up too much of the forum. I personally thought the reason we were here was to enjoy Red vs Blue and the other Rooster Teeth projects and talk about them civilly. True, this is different down here in the Basement, but there does have to be somewhere where you draw the line. SMM is gone because he thinks we crossed it. When I feel a need to do some gaming, I'm over at Yahoo Games. I'm invaderrizz over there too, and I'm almost always playing Reversi. But I keep a window on the forums here too, and shake my head at the n00b infestation.

Thank you Max, and all the other mods. I think a lot of other people would have left already if you guys weren't around.
