    Yeah, most sports nuts learn everything they know from a combo of T.V. and sport games.

    Yeah, I had the base rules for many sports, but I learned most of the other rules, like fouls, from sport games.

    I believe that tv is a substitiution of your real lives. I don't think there is anything that you could learn about society that you could not learn from books or ineteractions with people. Infact many times, I believe that it can be misleading about a praticular group of people. Even the news stations you can see have their favorites. Besides, I think TV kind of limits you. You only know what someone else is telling you. In my opinion it is better to listen to and/or watch mulitple sources. I think the best way to learn something is by doing it, not watching someone else do it.
