No, it uses your spare computer cycles, which means that as other things start using your computer, it uses less. From my experience, it doesn't make anything slower.

I would join, but with my brothers being fuckin' cock-mongrels, I can't get up for a drink without having my internet yanked...and I can't afford a router quite yet. But I will have one shortly. Then I will download and join....unless of course, it doesn't need the internet to run? Someone explain, please.

Screw it, I'll do it anyways. My laptop is idle a lot when I don't need it for school...or counter-strike.

    I joined.

    In reply to psychxero, #28:

No, it doesn't. Your computer runs the processes, and then sends it to the server when you're online. Then recieves a new process to run.

Sounds like the SETI project idea. For two years I had SETI on all my work computers/labs. Then I got yelled at re bandwidth.

    In reply to DeeNogger, #38:

Well, I know that you set it as such by going to properties, and check the box that says, "Run only as screen saver". I don't know if it'll take over as your screen saver or not.

    In reply to DeeNogger, #38:

It replaces your screensaver with something that works exactly like the Windows XP screensaver. You don't have to keep it.

It's also a plus to have a beast of a laptop...when I'm not playing CS:S I let it run...I've only run it for like 20 hours or so and unfolded 3 proteins. Working on a 4th as we speak. w0000t

speaking of that, what's everyone's "device ratings"

I've got a "high end desktop system" as the comparison, and mine rates 145,

It's showing 3 days and 4 hrs of "total run time" and I've got 2044 total points

Since I put in the new gig of RAM, I have 1.38g of memory...kills the 'High-End Desktop System' by like 70 points. My processor is like 220. And the memory I devote to it is only 20/100 because I don't want to give htem 5g's of my hard drive. I think mine ends up around 160 something...maybe higher. I dunno..it's changed 3 times since I installed.

My system rates 182. It's been going for 13 days and 16 hrs.

I have nearly 12,000 points. I also have it running on 3 diff machines -- I'm 'memnips' in our team list.

What does giving it more gigs do, anyway? I mean, what does it store?

I've been meaning to put it on my parents computer,

It's a "high end desktop" that sits unused 23 hours out of the day, usually left on, that'd probably rack up a lot of work
