      Adopt A Newbie

Hey everyone. Suffice to it say, this group hasn't been as active as it was when it first formed; especially considering there has not been an update for almost two months. Adopt a Newbie is currently going through some restructuring to help the group become more productive and efficient as a whole. We are working on new ways to reach out to more people interested getting involved in the community.

A notice to all currently listed mentors: for those who have not checked the Skype group lately, it has been decided to switch to GroupMe as the primary mode of offsite communication for mentors. Please leave a comment or send a message to @Giries to gain access to the chat room. Please note that this notice is for current mentors only. If you are not a mentor and you manage to join the group, you will be removed.

Just a reminder, if you wish to be a mentor or mentor in training please state so in this thread. This applies especially to those who are newbies and wish to become mentors.

On a closing note, we ask that all who see this post, regardless of what role you have in the group, to please direct anyone who would be interested in joining to the group page ,whether it's to become a mentor or to have a mentor. To all who have joined us in these past ten months, we at AAN want to say thank you. Hope y'all are having a great day, and expect to hear more from us in the coming weeks.

      Tip of the Week

None this week. If you have a tip for fellow community members, feel free to leave it in the comments!

      Featured Mentor

This weeks featured mentor is Andy (@Andyroo122). Andy's hobbies include gaming, reading, playing guitar, podcasting, and streaming with friends. His favorite RT Shows are On The Spot, Off Topic, and just about everything FunHaus. His favorite thing about the RT community is "the fact that you can always find someone to talk to, and that everyone is so chill and accepting of whatever nerdy hobbies/ crazy things you're about." If you'd like to get a hold of Andy you'll find him on Twitter (@Coatsy122), Xbox (Coatsy122), and Skype (andrew-coates1).

      Tip of the Week

Having trouble finding groups to join? Try using the Search function (the spyglass next to the social media icons). Type in a key word and you'll probably find something of interest.

      Featured Mentor

This week's featured mentor is @Shoban. Shoban's hobbies include music (particularly DJing), Video Games, and football (both types). His favorite RT shows are RvB, the RT Podcast, Sportsball, RWBY, Dude Soup, and SideScrollers. His favorite thing about the RT community is, "There's always something for someone, you don't have to force yourself to like something." On the site he interacts with community members through journals, comments, and PM's. Off the site he uses Twitter, Facebook, and Skype. If you'd like to contact him you can do so through Twitter, Facebook, or comment on his profile.

      Tip of the Week

Ever wondered what all the "popular" people are doing on the site? Check out the Popular Content feed. You can find it in the Community Dashboard on the left bar.

      Featured Mentor

Some of you may have already spotted this weeks featured mentor out there in the forums. Others, if you're a sponsor, may have interacted with him in Sponsor Chat. Nick (@IAmVeryMoist) enjoys making YouTube video's an watching/reviewing films. His favorite RT shows include Million Dollars But..., RTAA, RWBY, and many of the AH shows. Of the site he interacts with the community through Skype and Discord, as well as in person. If you'd like to contact him, you can comment on his profile.

Nick on the RT Community: "The sense of family that I felt at RTX 2014 made me feel like I'm a part of something bigger than I had initially thought and it felt incredible."

P.S. @IAmVeryMoist I did see the Battlefield 1 stuff. It looks pretty cool

      Closing Thoughts

I could really use some help guiding people here from the old Forum Thread. I often find myself replying to people a couple days after their original post. If you guys could follow that thread and make sure people find the new one that would be awesome.

      Enjoy yourselves!

      Adopt A Newbie

      Tip of the Week

Check out the Dashboard every once in a while. Sometimes when you friend someone, you don't automatically follow them, and therefore won't get any notifications if they post something. However, anything they post will end up in the Friends Feed. You can also see everything that staff members have posted using the Staff Feed, and, if you're feeling brave, you can see everything that everyone's posted using the Everyone Feed.

      Featured Mentor

Max (@AgentWashingtub008 on the site and the mastermind behind the Featured Mentor project) is a long-time contributor to the forums, particularly in the Red vs. Blue and RWBY sub-forums. His favorite RT productions are Red vs. Blue, RWBY, the RT Podcast, Free Play, and Let’s Play Minecraft. When he's not writing, playing Minecraft, Destiny, or reading comics, his hobbies include reading speculative fiction and fantasy novels, watching TV, studying narrative theories and practices, playing other PS3 games, doodling, and Coffee. Of the RT community he says this:

I’ve always loved that even with the wide scope of people and interests in the community we’re all here to have a good time and will let others do their thing. The only thing we don’t like is people who get in the way of that without reason

If you're a newbie looking for another way to contact Max, you can reach him on twitter (@pinkgeek008), though you're much more likely to reach him here on the site. He's also a member of the RT_Seattle community group, and would be more than happy to help out people in the area.

      Closing Thoughts

We're always looking for more fun stuff to do with these, and if you have any idea's feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Also, if you'd like to become a mentor, send a message to @Firearrow5235.

      Adopt A Newbie

      Good evening folks!

We're gonna blast through this one and start right off with this weeks tip which is:

The best way to make friends on this site is to be active. Post journals, post pictures, post in the Forums, join Groups, comment on things; get involved every way you can and the friends will almost certainly fall into place. It may seem like a no-brainer for some of you but I (and I'm sure many other mentors) get asked "How do I make friends here?" all the time.

So there's that. The other AANWU project is still in the works, I just have to find the time to do my part. I've been a little busy of late (evident by the lateness of this post) but I'll get to it!

That's it for this week. You guys rock!

      Adopt A Newbie

Hey there people! Hopefully everyone enjoyed their day off today, and for those who didn't have a day off... uhm... I'm sorry.

So last week I was looking for some more fun/useful stuff to do with AANWU. I'd like to thank @AgentWashingtub008 for suggesting that we do weekly tips. So here goes! This week's tip is:

Always read both the first post and the last page or two of posts whenever you're looking to join a Forum thread. This gives you an idea of what is expected of anyone posting in that thread, as well as what is happening in the thread currently. If the thread is short enough (1-2 pages) it's probably to your benefit to read the whole thing.

Beyond that, we've got another idea in the works. However, we're going to give it another week or two to iron out all the details and get a good backlog of stuff.

That's it for this week. Have a blast!

Hey there folks! How is everyone this week?

So I've been trying to come up with something more we can do with AANWU, and I'd like to put the question forward to all you guys. What would you like to see from us? What would make your experience in the RT community easier?

Beyond that, another quick reminder that if anyone wants to become a mentor you can send me (@Firearrow5235) a PM and I'll be sure to get you up and running.

Has anyone ever experienced a summer cold? I'm going through one at the moment and it's rather annoying. It's so nice outside, but it's so... not... inside...

That's it for this week. Have a good one folks!

Hey guys! Sorry I missed last week. Monday was just a blur and when I checked my calendar it was Wednesday.

The missed week was not in vain, however, because I have a Community Spotlight this week! Any creative folks out there looking for a good place to share a project with the community? Check out The Billboard. It could be a YouTube channel/video, an album, an art project, a fanfic, whatever! If you have something to share, try posting it there!

Bad rhymes aside, if anyone is interested in becoming a mentor, send me a message and I'll be sure to set you up.

Beyond that, have a good week everyone!

      Adopt A Newbie

Hello! How is everyone this week?

So we've come to a conclusion with the Community Spotlight. What we'll do is if we happen to come upon something in the community that we feel should be shared, or you guys leave something in the comments that you'd like to share, then we'll be sure to feature it. If nothing has come up that week, then we'll just skip it and move on. We've got a nice backlog of places to check out at this point so there's no need to beat the subject to death.

That being said, is there anything else you guys would like us to post? If so you can leave a comment or PM one of the admins.

Beyond that, stay cool and have a good week!
