Achievements and Aggression: Part 2 Achievements and Aggression: Part 2The last news entry was over 5 months ago and it pertained to an achievement in Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare that left me severly frustrated. I did eventually earn that achievement but it wasn't until a month after I had ranted about it. After another hiatus I have returned with not one but two things to complain about. The first thing I would like to discuss, similar to the previous news entry, is related to an achievement while the second one is about the achievement system on the Xbox One.

Titanfall. Where should I begin? Titanfall is a great game to say the least. After being an avid player when it comes to shooters, particularly in the realm of Call of Duty and Halo, it was a nice change of pace. I don't want to go into specifics but the game is easily one of my most favorite games. I am not going to disect the game in its entirety but there is an achievement in the game that leaves me disappointed especially because when I find a game I like I try to complete it. Those of you that have played Titanfall may know which achievement I am angry with. The achievement titled "I Killed Them All" requires that during the evacuation stage of a match you must kill every person on the enemy team. I would like to say I understand the motive for including this achievement in the game but goddamn! This achievement is utter bullshit. This achievement is flawed in a few ways. If a single teammate kills one enemy during the evacution you are immediately robbed of the achievement. Additionally its one against a theoretical six people. What great odds those are. This achievement is completely dictated by chance and I hate achievements like this one. The best way to go about it is to be playing with a party of people but as I just recently implied that you only get one chance. If you die you are fucked.

Let's move on shall we. I am going to point my finger at Destiny for this one. I really like Destiny and I find it to be a fantastic version of a console styled MMO but the achievements are buggy as hell. Destiny particulary has delayed achievements and quite a number of them. I had spoken to a few of my friends about how they had filled the requirements for some achievements and did not earn them until a few days later. What is even more strange about this is that they would get the achievement at the title screen of the game. One buggy achievement in a game is annoying and frustrating but for the number to be more than five is just absurd.

Call them what you want. Achievements, Trophies, Challenges, or maybe personal goals. They all share a common theme and that is too entice the player to come back for more. Some are simple and others clever, but occasionally there are the few that are pure frustration.

Recently my time online has been consumed by Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. The game itself is fantastic. I don't think I have had this much fun with a shooter since Halo Reach and going a step beyond that Call of Duty: World at War, I enjoyed that one a lot. Making the transition from the realm of touchscreen phones and tablets Plants vs Zombies has been quite successful on the console front. The game is family friendly and despite this it feels very satisfying to "vanquish" an enemy or prevent the enemy team from winning in a game of Gardens and Graveyards something I don't feel in other shooters.

Last week the game had been updated with free DLC, Zomboss Down. The DLC added in a new map, characters, collectibles, and achievements. Among the achievements is a bad egg. Its the type of achievement that is entirely based on chance and I can't put enough emphasis on the word chance. The achievement called The Last Second requires the player to defuse a Gnome Bomb within the last 3 seconds before detonation in a game of Gnome Bomb. Simple enough. In order to do this though you need to make sure that you aren't blown the fuck up by Chili Bean Bombs or Drone Strikes or the entire enemy team relentlessly shooting at the bomb site. I have played this gametype time and time again and still to no avail have earned the achievement and from what I have learned off of several Internet forums the best way to earn it is to play the game late and night when there isn't anyone online. This upsets me. I have to either play the game and get mad or earn it in a way that takes the challenge out of it. Pop Cap why did you include this achievement in the game? Every other achievement is completely doable without the factor of "chance" so why does this one need to be the exception?

What achievements or challenges in a game have made any of you upset or furious?

Well as most people have seen and heard the Xbox One was revealed this past Tuesday and it hasn't received the best of criticism. I would like to say that I personally haven't watched any videos from or regarding the reveal but I have read several articles about it.

One of the most notable issues is that backwards compatibility will not be implemented into the Xbox One which is a tad odd. I find this problem to be very interesting especially because I wonder if it will have the same impact on the Xbox 360 as the PS2 did with the PS3 with an extremely long lifespan.

Another problem that has seemed to irk many people is that the Xbox One has been projected more along the lines of being a general media center. Normally this would seem like an excellent idea and trait but the reveal apparently made the Xbox One seem more like a cable box than a gaming console.

I apologize for the lack of information and a general overview of what I have read but in the next upcoming weeks we should see more insights and information about the Xbox One and possibly the PS4 as well.

As of this week I am proud to announce that I have established a private Minecraft server and I am considering the fact of letting members of the group access it. I would like to state that the server's original purpose was to aid me in recording videos for Achievement Hunter's Community page but I thought of the possibility of expanding its population and what better way than letting members of the AVGN group gain access to it. If there is anyone that would be interested in wanting to join or aid me in helping with Community videos just leave a comment and I will send you the server name, ip address, and whitelist you.
