Well friends, Guild Wars 2 is making some questionable/controversial but definitive changes to QOL and interface come April 15th. I really encourage everyone to follow ANet's updates and decide for themselves whether or not they can get back into the new take on the game, or stay with it.
Check out the series of posts here:
Account-bound: Dyes, Legendary weapons, Ascended gear, Wardrobe, WvW World XP. This is on top of other things that have since become account bound, namely the Wallet (money, karma, dungeon tokens), and Fractal reward level.
Free: Trait resets (at any time), armor repair costs
Revamped: Runes and sigils, Trait system, Critical damage and ferocity
Social: Improved LFG tool, Guild management improvements (I may or may not kick anyone who hasn't logged in in 2 years by anniversary time, who knows..at least now we'll be able to tell!)
I won't get into my own opinions, because as a person who has been playing since beta and who still plays for guildies I've seen my fair share of changes and have been back and forth about them. I've seen them cater to the casual player and stiff the dedicated player with one hand while pacifying the "hardcore" player (who arguably doesn't exist, really) with pretty words on the side. I've seen them attempt to truly compensate those more dedicated "hardcore" players with content that completely shuts out new or casual players. I've seen them do their best to balance a system that will please their idea of the majority and ticks off most of the divided minorities. And now I see they're really trying to make the game more viable long-term instead of a failed flash in the pan promise that a lot of people seem to view it as, and who knows... it might work (for the casual player).
That being said, Guild Wars 2 will always have a place in my heart, and I guess one way to look at it is it can only really get better from this point. I just hope we're there to see it. I'm grateful to it for the friends that I've made and the good times. I think its necessary to be critical about a game and guild you've put a lot of time into. The guild, like the game, has changed tremendously since we started and as I've always said I always welcome new and old players back to it. We may not be 40 man raiding and active every night, but we're here, anyway. So haiii.
Depending on how things go down from this feature pack I won't be posting my little updates anymore than a few links here and there when content rolls out.
