      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 24. "Take The Leap." Aired Monday, May 18, 2009. 8:30pm EST.

      Summary:
Ted describes an architect project wherein he must design a building shaped like a hat. While he's designing it, Barney arrives and presents him with a situation where Ted liked a suit first but it's a better fit for Barney. Ted tells him to let the suit know how he feels. Barney admits that the suit is Robin, but Ted already figured.

Meanwhile, Marshall tries to get Ted to come up to the roof where they're having another surprise party, but Ted is busy on his project. Marshall goes up to the roof and stands on the edge. They flash back a few years where they were looking at the rooftop patio nearby. They want to go over to it, but the only way would be to jump. Marshall says he can jump that far but he never gets the nerve. Finally, at Ted's birthday, Marshall decides to do it. Lily lies and says shes pregnant to try and get him to stay, but when Marshall mentions she's gained weight lately, she gets angry and tells him to jump. He spends all night trying to get up the courage to jump until Lily finally tells him to get down.

Barney pulls Robin aside to tell her how he feels when she interrupts and says she has to tell him something first -- and says she thinks she's in love with him. He runs and tells Lily what happened and he's very excited because as soon as she told him, his feelings for her evaporated. Lily confesses that Robin overheard his conversation with Ted and had a talk with Lily and Marshall about it. They suggested that she "Mosby" him and freak him out by saying she's in love with him. As soon as Barney finds out, his feelings for her return.

While Ted is downstairs working on his project, he hears noises and sees movement. He walks into the kitchen and finds the goat in the kitchen. He calls Lily and says it's looking at him. He later finds it chomping on a washcloth, and he swipes it from her and puts the washcloth in the bathroom. Later when he goes to the bathroom, he finds it locked. He breaks the door down and fins the goat chewing on the washcloth again. He gets so fed up with it that he yells at her and she starts to charge at him. He winds up in the hospital, and all his friends find his situation amusing. Barney takes Robin aside and tells her he knows she lied. They have a very confusing argument wherein they each go back and forth between admitting they have feelings for each other and then agree to be friends until they finally start making out. They agree to settle it later.

Ted is late for his meeting, but he pitches his new building. The company decided to go with Sven over Ted. Lily suggests he not be an architect, since it's killing him. She tells him to listen to what the world is telling him and take the leap. Marshall finally goes up to the roof and jumps, making it over to the other side. Everyone follows suit. Ted narrates about all the things that happened that year -- he was left at the altar, got knocked out by a crazy bartender, got fired, got beat up by a girl goat, and it was the best year of his life. All of things led him to be professor Mosby, and the mother was in that class.

      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 23. "As Fast As She Can." Aired Monday, May 11, 2009. 8:30pm EST.

      Summary:
Tony shows up at Ted's place, talking about how he stole Stella from him. He feels badly about what he did to Ted and he wants to offer Ted a job as a professor of architecture. He doesn't want to take it at first, but then Tony offers him a job designing a laundry room for a man who seems to want a quiet place to kill someone. Ted panicks and calls off the job. Tony tries to give him another one, but he refuses. Tony says he just feels bad about taking Stella, but Ted says he doesn't want her back. He's angry about how she treated him, and Tony takes that as a green light to not feel guilty. Shortly after that, Stella arrives and tells Ted that Tony broke up with her because of something Ted said to him. They go into the hall and talk, and she admits she was in love with him since high school. She was a mother for so long, she forgot what it was like to be in love, but being with Ted helped her remember. But it helped her remember Tony. She wants Ted to talk to Tony and get him to take her back. They're in the middle of an argument when Ted gets a call from Barney -- from jail.

Barney mentions he got a speeding ticket, and Marshall tells them the story of how he got out of a ticket once by sweet talking the cop. They don't think Barney could have done it. He takes this as a challenge and decides to try it out by speeding on purpose. He winds up getting a bigger ticket. He keeps trying until eventually he gets pulled over for having 15 violations in three days. He calls Ted to bail him out, and Stella agrees to drive him to Jersey to do it. After they bring Barney home, the two have a heart-to-heart. Stella tells Ted that she knows Tony is the one. She helps Ted see that his woman is on her way just as fast as she can.

Lily shows up at the end, saying she thought of the peanut butter joke today and it made her laugh, so she decided to come back. When Barney starts to tell her his plan to seduce a woman, she takes off.

      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 22. "Right Place Right Time." Aired Monday, May 5, 2009. 8:30pm EST.

      Summary:
Ted is walking outside with his yellow umbrella when a girl taps him on the shoulder. Older Ted narrates how it changed his life. He could have easily taken a different turn and not been on that corner. He goes back a few days to explain why he didn't. A few days before, Robin was violently sick with food poisoning. She first hesitates because she got it from a place Ted loves, but she finally tells him where. Now he can't eat there anymore. He took a left that day instead of a right because he was going to a different bagel place.

He then mentions a magazine place he stopped and explains why he had. Barney showed him Bro's Life magazine and shows him a girl he wants to make his 200th screw. On closer inspection, Robin points out that he's listed the same girl twice, which means he's only done 198 different girls, not 199. He doesn't want to waste the girl on 199, so he has to find someone new to screw in under two hours. He resorts to a woman at the gym who is ripped but has always had a crush on him, and the sex traumatizes and bruises him badly. Robin sadly informs him that he did count the one girl twice, but he also counted 138 twice, so the woman from the gym was his 200th after all. Barney mentions Pauline, the gym girl, was in the magazine too, which is why Ted stopped for a full minute. If he hadn't, he would have been at the corner a minute early and missed the chance to meet the mother.

Ted then mentions how he stopped to pay a homeless guy that day, and he goes into why. Marshall got a severe addiciton to making graphs and charts, and the gang holds an intervention. They steal all his charts, including ones that Marshall needs for work. Marshall calls frantic in the middle of a meeting demanding Ted bring them. Ted goes through the trash to find them, but a bum took them to sell them for a million dollars. Ted agrees to do it one dollar at a time. That's why he cut down the street to pay him that day.

Ted returns to the story of the woman who tapped him on the shoulder. He turns around. It's Stella.

Barney is glad to have finished screwing 200 different girls. It was a bet he'd made with a kid in 7th grade. Now that he's done with 200, he decides to pursue Robin.

Season 4 Episode 23 will air next Monday, May 11.

      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 21. "Three Day Rule." Aired Monday, April 27, 2009. 8:30pm EST. This episode gets the BEST EPISODE OF SEASON FOUR MichyGeary stamp of approval. smiley12.gif

      Summary:

Ted is proud of himself for getting a girl's number, but Barney warns him not to call her for three days. Ted agrees, but he then texts her. He finds he gets along really well with her until he gets a text that she obviously sent to him by accident wherein she mentioned getting take-out from Ginero's. When Robin goes to MacLaren's, she sees that Marshall got take-out from Ginero's for Lily, and Robin realizes that Barney and Marshall have been pretending to be Holli. Barney admits that he swiped Ted's phone and changed Holli's number to his own work phone so that they could yell at him when he called her too soon, but when the text came in, they decided to screw with him instead. Robin thinks they should stop screwing around, but they point out that they're really helping. Ted was trying to move way too fast with her like he did with Robin, so they were saving him from saying all that stuff to Holli directly.

Then they met Stan, who is a security guard, and he gives them suggestions for a heartfelt text message. Barney and Marshall are swept away by his romantic words. Robin tells the guys to call Ted and confess, but they text him and explain that Holli's friend "Marsha" used her phone to text her husband "Billy." Robin confesses to Ted that Marshall and Barney were doing the texting the whole time because they didn't think he could wait the three days. Ted decides to screw with them back by sending a text saying he knows they're only just getting to know each other, but he has to tell her something. Marshall and Barney think he's going to say "I love you" but instead, the next text says "I sometimes have gay dreams about my best friend." They argue over which one of them he's talking about.

At the bar, Ted admits to the gang that he had a weird dream that's kind of embarassing, and they insist he tell them. He then spends half an hour telling them about an architecture dream. When they ask him who he'd sleep with if it was down to Marshall and Barney, Ted picks Holli and announces that Robin told him everything. Holli arrives and says she loves that Ted called her right away, and she leaves to meet him in the cab for dinner. Ted says that any girl who wants him to wait three days to call isn't the girl for him. He wants someone who likes him for who he is, and calling right away is just who he is. But when he goes on the date with her, she goes way too fast and really freaks him out, suggesting marriage, a trip together, and finally she says she's in love with him. He breaks it off.

At the end, Marshall and Barney are excited to see Stan show up, but are disappointed when he says he's here to pick Robin up for a date.

      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 20. "Mosbius Designs." Aired Monday, April 13, 2009. 8:30pm EST.

      Summary:
Barney and Marshall are worried about getting laid off -- well, Marshall more specifically; Barney knows he will never be fired. He tells Marshall he needs a "thing" to make him popular enough that no one will fire him. Marshall decides to be the "sports" guy who takes care of bets. He gets really uncomfortable when he's handling a lot of money.

Ted begins to work on his new firm, Mobius designs. Robin is miffed when Ted hires an assistant, PJ, to help him work in his own home. When PJ calls and says he's late because he's on top of the Empire state building, Ted notices the caller ID says it came from his own house. He goes into Robin's bedroom and finds them in bed together. She explains that she gets off work at 5 in the morning and the guys she meets are creeps. Ted is angry and thinks Robin sleeping with PJ will ruin his productivity. When PJ's work does start slipping, Ted fires him -- but since he's seeing Robin, he still won't leave the apartment. Once he doesn't have a job, he starts to annoy Robin. When she breaks up with him, Ted hires him back -- which makes Robin want him again. They get into a terrible cycle until PJ gets his own job somewhere else.

Meanwhile, Barney is really struggling with Robin's new relationship with PJ. He admits to Marshall that he's been in love with her, and Marshall says he knows, Lily told him. When Barney thinks they've been laughing behind his back, Marshall says they actually think Barney/Robin were perfect for each other and always try to sit together so that Barney and Robin will share the booth seat.

      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 19. "Murtaugh." Aired Monday, March 30, 2009. 8:30 pm EST. You can watch the episode here at CBS's site.

      Summary:
Barney arrives at Ted's place, distraught over being kicked out of Laser Tag for rough play. Ted tells him he's too old to play laser tag anymore and shows him his "Murtaugh list." A list of things he's too old to do anymore. Barney argues that if he did everything on that list, it would be a fun week. Ted says he would die if he tried, and Barney takes that as a challenge. Barney quickly realizes that everything on the Murtaugh list is painful and not at all fun. When Ted says he can't wait to grow old so he doesn't have to worry about where his life is going, Robin gives a list of things he's too young to do and dares him to do everything on the list. He and Barney make a wager to see who can finish first. If Barney loses, he can never do anything on the Murtaugh list again and has to listen to Ted lecture on architecture for six hours. If Ted loses, he has to help Barney TP the laser quest. They both end up giving in, and together they trash the laser quest.

Marhsall starts coaching Lily's kindergarden basketball team. She wants to see how good a dad he'll be, but she's horrified when he yells at them and makes them feel bad when they don't try harder to win. Lily is upset and tells him they don't keep score at the games and he'd better be "a teddy bear filled with cotton candy and rainbows" or she'll stop talking to him. Marshall is devastated to find the kids losing terribly to the other team, who seem to have gotten real coaching at their school.

Sorry it was such a wait. I sort of thought I already posted it and thus... didn't. Also, TVGuide seems to be missing its new eps and spoilers, so I don't have info on that. Sorry again. No new ep until next Monday, April 13.

      How I Met Your Mother

Season 4, Episode 18. "Old King Clancy." Aired Monday March 23, 2009. 8:30pm EST.

      Summary:
Ted finds himself doing some of his most inspired work for the new GNB building. When he tries to use it to impress a girl in the elevator, she tells him she knows that project was scrapped a month ago, and "nice try." Ted brings it up at dinner, and Barney and Marshall admit that Bilson did scrap the project about a month ago and left it up to them to tell him. They didn't want to hurt Ted, and since they'd have to pay him for two more months anyways, they decided to let him keep thinking he was working on it. For the last few weeks, they had put together a "task force" of random people they bribed to sit at the table and act interested in what he was saying. Ted was upset that his friends would lie to him, especially since now he was going to be fired, and he could have spent the last month looking for a new job instead of wasting his time on something that wasn't even going through. They try to make it up to him by getting him a job with Bilson to build a duplicate "ETR" two floors higher. The ETR (Employee Transition Room) is where they take people to fire them. Ted brought a lot of revolutionary ideas to try to spruce it up, but Bilson fired him, claiming he wanted the exact room, two floors up. Because of the lost work, Ted is fired. He decides to start his own firm so he doesn't have to "answer to the Bilsons of the world."

Robin claims that a celebrity once took her home to show her his collection and asked her to do a strange sex act with her. The gang want to know what it was, but she agrees to only tell them if they can correctly guess (1) the Canadian celebrity, (2) the item he collected, and (3) the Canadian sex act. There is a website, canadiansexacts.org where the gang go for ideas on what it could be. After three days of incorrect guessing, Robin reluctantly agrees to tell them, as long as they swear to keep it a secret. She writes down, "The Frozen Snow Shoe, Old King Clancy, Harvey's Trays." They have no idae what those things are. Marshall asks who "Old King Clancy" is and Robin says, no that's the sex act. Marshall asks "So his name was Harvey Strays?" and she says "No, that's what he collected -- Harvey's trays." Trays from some wildly popular Canadian restaurant. His name was "The Frozen Snow Shoe," and he was a pro wrestler that took her home in 2002. The gang are very disappointed by the story, which they thought was deliciously scandalous at first, but now claim that Canada has ruined even that. At the end, we see what really happened -- The Frozen Snow Shoe did take her home to look at his trays, but she's the one who asked him for an OKC. He told her to leave.

Spoiler for episode 19 from TVGuide.com:
Ted's list of "things the gang's too old to do" prompts Barney to attempt everything on the list within 24 hours just to prove Ted wrong.

      Summary:
Robin is offended that the gang don't watch her morning show. They agree to get together at Lily and Marshall's place to watch it. Ted arrives to inform them that Karen dumped him because she found Robin's earring in the bed and didn't trust that he wasn't sleeping with her. When Ted finds Robin's other earring in Marshall and Lily's room, Lily confesses to putting it in his bed on purpose to break them up. Then she admits to having done this with his ex-girlfriends a lot -- including Robin. She had put it in their heads about how different they wanted their lives to be. While Ted and Lily argue over all this, Robin's show is muted and forgotten in the background. A lot happens -- there's a fire, the weather man has a heart attack, one of the guests goes into labor and Robin delivers the baby. When she gets to Lily and Marshall's place, she is excited that that was the episode they saw -- then is offended to learn they didn't watch it at all. Later, Lily confesses to Karen that she put the earring there on purpose and she takes Ted back. When Karen tells him he has to stop hanging out with Lily, he dumps her. He says he doesn't care if his friends don't like his girlfriend, but it's another story if his girlfriend doesn't like his friends. That was his breaking point. He and Robin share a romantic dinner that Lily had intended for him and Karen. After a conversation about what-could-have-been if Lily hadn't broken them up, Ted and Robin decide to be each other's back-up spouses if they're still single at forty.

Meanwhile, Barney teases Marshall for wearing a feminine nightgown. Barney himself wears a pajama-suit, claiming he has to look his best in case hot, desperate women show up to his apartment in the middle of the night.
