So what does everyone think of our draft picks? I like that we addressed the fact that Aaron Smith is, well, not getting any younger. I also like that we are still attempting to create a dependable offensive line (although really, it's mostly injuries that have been the problem recently, credit to the coaching staff for patching "good enough" together). I also like that we acknowledged our defensive weak point, not once but twice in a row. An outside linebacker is always a good bet for Pittsburgh - you never know when you just won't be able to afford the kind of money demanded by a player who has put up ridiculous numbers because he is in the perfect defensive system for his position. Another O-line pick can't hurt (until he gets hurt). And lastly, I think the 5'11" 205 lb Baron Batch could be a search for the next Mewelde Moore, particularly as the Steelers have said "He was an excellent running back in a Texas Tech offense that’s really like a third-down offense in the NFL... His ability as a receiver catching the ball was very impressive to us.”

I understand that the NFL wants to take James Harrison's money keep players safe so that they can make fuckloads more money expand the season to 18 games. That being said, what do you think of the lack of penalties against Baltimore last night for the two plays that would have resulted in penalties and fines if they had come from 92? 1) The "oops I punched your Quarterback in the face" (keep in mind there is a rule in the NFL that if you even touch a quarterback in the head it is supposed to be a 15-yard roughing the passer). 2) The adjustment of Heath Miller's top 7 vertebrae by a Baltimore helmet.

EDIT 12-7-10: McClain was fined $40,000 for his hit on Miller and Ngata was fined $15,000 for his hit on Roethlisberger. The NFL is trying to play by their own rules, which I appreciate, but at the same time I would much rather see 15 yards and a first down than Ravens players giving Roger Goodell money. Ravens losing money does not help the Steelers win.

Well, following the horrible move to cut Jeff Reed, I'm resigning my position as admin from this group. I think it was the worst idea ever, and that the organization was looking for a scapegoat. Heinz field is the worst turf surface in the league, and that's been proven - and don't forget how the O-and-D lines both completely fell apart. Coupled with the fact that the NFL has turned football into staged wrestling, by not calling proper calls and not enforcing rules (IE, they can fine harrison for multiple helmet to helmet hits, but not a Patriot player). I can't take it. I'm done with football. See ya, I'm out.

    • Colon to have Achilles’ tendon surgery

PITTSBURGH (AP)â€â€Steelers offensive tackle Willie Colon(notes) will have surgery Wednesday to repair a torn right Achilles’ tendon and is expected to miss the season.

Colon was injured while working out on his own at the Steelers practice complex on Monday. The Steelers haven’t officially ruled Colon out for the season, but such an injury typically sidelines a player for at least nine months.

Rookie tackle Chris Scott(notes), a fifth-round pick, also will have surgery Wednesday to repair a right foot injury that occurred while he was training in Tennessee.

With Colon likely out until 2011, the Steelers will explore bringing in an experienced offensive tackle. Right guard Trai Essex(notes) also could be moved there if another player isn’t signed.

EDIT: Okay, apparently I am a poll-making n00b. An apostrophe is FAIL in a poll answer, so B and C are supposed to be:

      B) Won't help us or hurt us.

      C) We're BONED.

“Commissioner Goodell informed us today that based on the information he received from the clinical evaluations, he has cleared Ben Roethlisberger to return to the Steelers’ facility to take part in both meetings and practices,†Steelers president Art Rooney II said in a statement released by the team. “We look forward to having Ben rejoin his teammates on the practice field.â€Â

The Steelers’ next offseason workout is Tuesday, the first of three next week. They have three the following week, then are off until training camp starts on July 30. Roethlisberger already was cleared to join them in camp and can play in preseason games.

Roethlisberger will be suspended through the Oct. 24 game against Miami and can return the next day. His first game would be at Super Bowl champion New Orleans in prime time on Oct. 31.

If the suspension is reduced to four games, he would return for a home matchup with the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 17.

Does this set a precedent for future Super Bowl sites? Weigh in if you think this means that Heinz Field will eventually get a nod.

Hey everyone, apologies to be made for the lack of updates. With the large number of people in the group, I am looking for a second group mod to help me keep this sucker updated regularly.

The Draft has come and gone, and with it many major changes - especially considering what has happened with QB Big Ben and Santonio Holmes. In case you missed it, Ben has been charged - and was found innocent of - yet another sexual misconduct run-in. Regardless of your feelings on morality, considering that Ben is a superstar athlete and SINGLE, and the fact that the charges against him were dropped again, I think it's more of a ploy made by some undesireable wommen trying to ruin the carrer of another athelete a'la Tiger Woods. I personally think Ben is innocent, and while he seems to have turned into a character of attention and has become quite different since his accident, I think he is still a good QB; and feel that the Commish's punishment on Ben was ludacris. What about that Cleveland Brown player who took a loaded gun on an airplane two weeks ago? Are you telling me that is not as bad as sleeping with a wommen? Yoi and double yoi, our Black & Gold are plauged by off-field problems, and I think that's what started to happen towards the end of last season that drove us out of contention for Seven.

Adversley, the same issue plauged Santio Holmes - who is NO LONGER a Steeler, as he was traded to the New York Jets for another off-field violation - this being a confirmed incident with him injuring a female he was with at a nightclub. Ugh!

In major news, the Steelers have resigned a slew of old Steeler players, including Randel El and Brian McFadden; as well as getting some top-seed picks that I unfortunatley missed. Hopefully the changes will have a good impact on the Steelers this season.

More news - Apparently Byron Leftwhich (SP?) and Limas Sweed are both haivng a bigger impact on starting QB than our secondary QB Charlie Batch. I do not have time right now to gather that info, but I do know that Sweed injured his achiles tendon in the last Steeler's minicamp practice.

Anyway, here's to hoping for another great season, and lets go Steelers!!!

      Read Me First

So what do you think? I'm glad to see that Clark and Randle El will return, but Battle coming back too definitely creates a logjam at receiver:
      Hines Ward
      Santonio Holmes
      Mike Wallace
Stefan Logan (listed as RB on nfl.com, listed as KR on steelers.com)
Joey Galloway (listed on steelers.com but not on nfl.com)
Antwaan Randle El (who according to the article, will be competing with Wallace for 3rd spot)
Arnaz Battle (who will primarily be used in Special Teams as I understand it)
Limas Sweed (taken off the active roster late last season for undisclosed reasons)
      Tyler Grisham
Brandon London (listed on nfl.com but not on steelers.com)
      Jason Chery
any WRs we take in the draft (like we need any!)

It feels like they're preparing for Ward to hang 'em up. Also I think it demonstrates a complete lack of confidence in the running game, as well as an acknowledgment that the defense is not what it used to be. Dropping a guard and signing a tackle? Also a sign that the aerial attack is here to stay.

Glad to see they went out and got some special teams guys to go with the new coach, and also that they worked out a deal with Hampton. But franchising Reed? Sure, he's been the hero more often than the goat, but don't the Steelers usually avoid guys with off-the-field issues? Oh wait, maybe not. smiley4.gif

Well, by this time, you should know what happened - because of our inability to win within our division (IE - the first time in years that we've been dominated by Cinci, and suffered losses to the Ravens and ...ugh... the Browns)... we are now out of the Postseason, so it's all over for this season.

The rumor mill in the Burgh is running wild with all sorts of news; from the Quarterback coach retiring to the hyped rumor that O-Line coach Bruce Aryans may be fired, along with the special teams coach. As far as the team goes, I think it's almost certain that Willie Parker will be gone next season, and there are rumors that Big K Hampton might be done as well.

Aside from all the changes and cuts, I suppose all that's left will be to wait till the Draft. We'll keep ya posted on all news Black & Gold!
