    • RTX Animation Festival Guest Screening Highlight: Paul "OtaKing" Johnson

      RTX Animation Festival

Howdy folks! We’re T-minus three days away from RTX , and we cannot wait to see you there! Once again, we are ready to share about yet another awesome creator that’s sending over some goodies for us to show at this year’s Animation Festival, Paul “OtaKing" Johnson!

Where do I start with this guy? OtaKing is without a doubt one of the most talented 2D animators on the planet right now. His fusion of old-school 80’s anime flair and modern rotoscoping techniques sing every time he puts his pen to the tablet. There is an undying devotion to fluidity in his work that makes me cry a bit inside over the fact that there aren’t more artists like him out there with the skillset and discipline necessary to churn out work at this level. If you want to see some of his best work, then look no further than his viral hit Star Wars short TIE Fighter.

But the best part about OtaKing isn’t even his work. It’s his openness with his techniques and time-lapse videos that make his YouTube and twitch channels a must-follow for anyone that’s looking to grow as an artist or wants to see those sweet, sweet ‘ones’. There are few artists that are as inspiring and generous about sharing their process out there, so if you are remotely interested in the process of animation, be sure to check out more of Paul’s work!

The RTX Animation Festival is running August 3rd – 5th at the JW Marriott Austin and is included with admission to RTX 2018. Badges are still available and can be purchased here. Full schedules, maps, and more can be found now on the RTX APP for iPhone and android devices.

For today's highlight we'd like to turn the attention to an incredible guest that has screened with us in the past and is making a trip out to see us again this year!  The one and OnlyLeigh!

No stranger to viral hits, Leigh Lahav has had many bonfide sensations grace the net. One of the most prominent in recent years has of course been been A Stranger Things Christmas.

OnlyLeigh's work has a penchant for pitch perfect and unexpected pop culture fusions as well as witty fandom observation animations like the HISHE collaboration series "Five Stages of Watching ___"

Leigh is also a familiar name for fans of Rooster Teeth's Camp Camp, having co-written several hilarious episodes such as Season 3's Something Fishy.

You can catch some of Leigh's animation at the RTX Animation Festival and see her at several panels running over the weekend:

    • RTX Animation Festival Guest Screening Highlight: SexuaLobster

      RTX Animation Festival

The RTX Animation Festival is first and foremost a celebration of the sort of wild and creative animation that the internet allows to flourish and find an audience like never before!  Something near and dear to our hearts for obvious reasons!

So leading up to the event we’d like to talk about some of the awesome and varied artists slated to have their work appear at screenings throughout the weekend!

Today our screening highlight is SexuaLobster!

WARNING: ADULT CONTENT AHEAD: Please note that some additional content by today’s highlight may be considered NOT safe for work!

      RT artist Kieran Claffery writes:

SexuaLobster is an oldschool Newgrounds animator from Australia that specializes in a kind of off-the-wall absurdist humor. Some of his early hits include the Angry Dog series and his long running Pleasure Island series which he has branched off from using the recurring characters Gooseman and Fernando the Manwhore.

While these series are classics, some of his more popular animations come in the form of his "Dance/Quest/Passion of the Manwhore music videos" a very sensual and erotic chant from Fernando attempting to seduce the viewer. He often likes to collab in his writing processes, and what comes out is usually strange, weirdly greasy and beautiful video.”

You can find more work by SexuaLobster on his YouTube page.

The RTX Animation Festival is running August 3rd – 5th at the JW Marriott Austin and is included with admission to RTX 2018. Badges are still available and can be purchased here while supply lasts!

    • Animation Festival Artist Spotlight: Machinima/Transformers

      RTX Animation Festival

Just a few days and counting down RTX folks! It’s hard to believe that it’s almost here, but it’s happening! Welcome once again to another of our Artist Spotlights, where we take a look at one of our partners at the Animation Festival and highlight what they will be bringing with them. Today we take a look at one of our longtime friends, Machinima Animation!

      2541307-1533092960972-RTXAF_Event_Machin

Machinima Inc and Rooster Teeth go way back, having worked together since the early days of YouTube. Much like Rooster Teeth has grown and evolved beyond our roots, Machinima has also gone all in with gamer-focused content, especially animation. This year, Machinima is bringing their latest Transformers series, Power of the Primes, as well as a Q&A with showrunner FJ DeSanto at the Machinima panel on Saturday, August 4th at the JW Marriot Grand Ballroom 5/6.

Machinima will also be debuting some exclusive new footage from some of their upcoming shows, so make sure not to miss it!

That’s not all that Machinima is doing for the festival this year though. In addition to bringing their Animation game, Machinima is sponsoring something that the Animation Festival team are super excited to be able to share with you. Literally.

Machinima will be sponsoring the MACHINIMA CHILL SPACE a place to relax at the JW Marriott’s 4th floor Ballroom 7.  Inside the space, attendees will be able to kick back, relax, check out some of Machinima’s awesome shows, and mingle away from the bustling hubbub of the convention along with other community members and the Rooster Teeth employees that work on some of your favorite shows!

This is something that the team is super passionate about; a good chunk of us are here because we were community members first and we want to make sure that we are always able to use RTX and the Animation Festival as a way to reach out to you guys and share our experiences with each other.

You can find out more about Machinima over at their website and check out their shows over on their YouTube channel.

The RTX Animation Festival is running August 3rd – 5th at the JW Marriott Austin and is included with admission to RTX 2018. Badges are still available and can be purchased here. Full schedules, maps, and more can be found now on the RTX APP for iPhone and android devices.

    • Animation Fest Artist Spotlight: Titmouse Inc.

      RTX Animation Festival

      Seven. More. Days!

We’re so close we can smell Gus’ delicious Fried Chicken down the street from the convention center! Today’s spotlight is on a company that’s attending RTX for their first year but has spent many years in our hearts.

This Animation Festival Artist Spotlight is on the absolutely legendary Titmouse Inc.

Titmouse, the animation production company known for popular cartoons across a multitude of networks, will bring behind-the-scenes perspectives on a few series to RTX including the Emmy award-winning Niko and the Sword of Light and the wild, anime-inspired Ballmastrz: 9009.

      2541307-1532705737085-RTXAF_Guest_titmou

If you’re a fan of animation, you’ve very likely seen/heard their work at one point or another.

In case you don’t believe us:

And here’s a link to their works listed on their site

Titmouse is a full-service absolute behemoth of a production company. Employing over 500 talented individuals, Titmouse does it all, and they do it well. Owner Chris Prynoski started his career in the industry in the early 2000s working with MTV on shows such as Daria, Beavis and Butthead and his very own idea, MTV Downtown. Shortly thereafter, he and his wife decided to open a small T-shirt company (also named Titmouse) where they found themselves getting more requests for animation than T-shirts.

They picked up their life in New York and moved to California where they reformed the company into an animation studio and quickly took the animation realm by storm.

With popular shows such as Metalocalypse, The Venture Bros., Black Dynamite and more, Titmouse has set the bar quite high for the animation industry. They’ve amassed quite a client list, too, working with such major networks as, Cartoon Network, Disney, and Nickelodeon.

Did we mention that they do have their own IP, too?

Here’s a look at Niko and The Sword of Light:

      And Ballmastrz: 9009

Titmouse president and owner Chris Prynoski will appear, as well as Christy Karacas, the creator, director and executive producer for Ballmastrz: 9009, and Rob Hoegee, showrunner, head writer and executive producer for Niko and the Sword of Light.

The Titmouse panel will be held on Saturday, August 4th at 5:30 pm at the JW Marriott. Prynoski will also appear on an animation writing and directing panel with other industry leaders. Here's a link to the full schedule.

The RTX Animation Festival is running August 3rd – 5th at the JW Marriott Austin and is included with admission to RTX 2018. Badges are still available and can be purchased here

    • Animation Festival Artist Spotlight: Paradise PD

      RTX Animation Festival

RTX is just around the corner, just a week and change, and we are hard at work getting the finishing touches pulled together to make the Animation Festival better than ever! In case you missed the announcement, one of the big surprises we have in store for you is an exciting new series from our friends over at Netflix and Bento Box Animation. Paradise, PD!

      2541307-1532448519338-RTX_AF_ParadisePD.

Created by Brickleberry’s Waco O’Guin and Roger Black, Paradise PD is an adult comedy series that follows a backwater southern-fried police department full of bad cops. Not bad as in no nonsense. Not bad as in cool. Bad as in shitty. O’Guin and Black will be sharing more about the irreverent and raunchy antics of their adult-oriented comedy series at this year’s RTX Animation Festival in a panel at the JW Marriott Grand Ballroom 5/6 on Friday, August 3rd at 3:30pm CDT.

Joining them in support of Paradise PD will be legendary voice actor Tom Kenny, best known as the voice of a certain burger-flipping sponge among many other memorable roles! Paradise PD is coming to Netflix this year, and we are just as excited as you are to find out more and give you a sneak peek!
