How the hell?! I bet that's a question that is being asked alot right now in the nations capital. How the hell did the Cardinals win? Once again the Cardinals have managed to pull a win out of thin air. After being down 6 to nothing, the Cards managed to fight their way back and won 9 to 7, to once again send them on a happy flight to the NLCS, where they will face the Giants. The Cardinals have now won 6 straight elimination games. They play their best when their backs up are up against a wall and the odds are stacked against them. And its not just the big names like Molina, Freese, and Beltran(among others) who are hitting and destroying the opposition. Its also guys like Descalso, Jay ,and Kozma(again, among others) who contributing. There is so much skill and talent all up and down this lineup. This is two years in a row that we managed to knock out the best team in baseball to advance. I'm looking forward to the this NLCS. The 2010 World Champs vs the 2011 World Champs. Its going to be memorable thats for sure. I just hope that the Cards can avoid the dramatic victories, i dont know how much more my heart can take.

      St Louis Cardinals

So here we are, a little more then 24 hours prior to the opening shots of the 2012 campaign. Opening Day is always one of my favorite days of the year. There is just something about it that I think is hard to put in words, but I think every baseball fan regardless of team affiliation understands. On Opening Day there is such a sense of hope in the air. And questions, always many many questions on Opening Day. The 2012 Cardinals surely have some questions that are going to be answered. Will they repeat? Will Mike Matheny be a good manager? Is Wainwright's arm good to go? When will Carpenter be back? Will injuries plague and cripple this team? These and many others will be answered this season, and that starts tomorrow when the Cardinals take to the field against the Marlins.

I truly believe, that even without La Russa, Duncan, Pujols, and (at least for a bit) Carpenter, this Cardinals team has the potential to get back to October, and defend their title. It has already been said by some of the players, that they feel a burden to prove that they can compete without La Russa and Pujols. And again, already the Redbirds are being counted out by some of the so called experts. Well thats ok, 2006 and 2011 prove that the Cardinals are perfectly ok being the underdog. So here we go,fellow Cardinals fans, get settled in for the long hall, its going to be a good season.

Check it out, the 2012 Cardinals commercials have been released. They've been running these the last few years and every year they get better. Any shenanigans are instantly better when you throw Fredbird in the mix. Which one is your favorite?

Its finally back, the long cold wait is over. Baseball's back. Not to say that this winter has been dull for Cardinals fans. No, i would have to say this has been one of the more interesting ones i've endured. I dont know about the rest of you, but im still basking in the warm glow of the World Championship. But despite that glory, we've had an interesting off-season. So many changes. Long time Manager, Tony La Russa, retires(though he will be coaching the NL All Star Team) Dave Duncan has taken a leave of absence, and i doubt he will be returning. And Pujols left us to go chase money in So Cal. With a new manager(and i mean new, Matheny has never managed a game) different pitching coach, and some different faces in different places on the field, there are a lot of questions to be answered. And hopefully we will start seeing some of those answers in the next few weeks. One of the biggest encouragements i see is the return of Adam Wainwright. I cant wait to see how he does. Anyways, welcome back baseball, we've missed you

So, Dunc has decided to step down. To be honest, I can't blame him, and i am happy to see someone who realizes that for everything this game is to so many, it is still just a game, and some things(like family) are more important then any game. I'm going to miss him, and what he has done for so many pitchers, but he is making the right choice, and i wish him and his wife the best of luck(and to his wife, a speedy recovery)

The Cardinals just sign Carlos Beltran to a 2 year deal. It'll be good to have his bat and glove.

    • Albert Pujols to the Angels

So here i sit, trying to think how to sum up the end of a era in St Louis Cardinals history. And more then anything, i feel relief. Relief that the Pujols situation is resolved, relief that the Cards can move on and start looking to fill other needs. On one hand, i am sad to see the man go, he truly is among the best, on the other hand im glad to see that the Cards can use that money on several quality players instead of one superstar. I think its important to remember that no one man makes up a team.

I suppose i always felt that Albert was different. That being a Cardinal was more important to him then money. I loved hearing him say stuff like how he wanted to be a Cardinal for life and that he loved being compared to the greatest Cardinal of all time, Stan Musial. Ultimately though, he showed more loyalty to the almighty dollar then Cardinal Nation.

So I say, thanks Albert. Thanks for 11 years of awesome baseball. Thanks for many trips to the playoffs. And thanks for helping get 2 World Championships. The first time you are booed in LA or when you are watching the St Louis Cardinals play in October(again) remember what could of been.

and before i click submit some real quick stats to ease the pain, In their long history the Cards have 2 Wild Card slots, 3 East Div titles, 7 Central Division titles, 4 AA Pennants, 18 NL Pennants, and 11 World Series titles(2nd most in baseball, 1st in the NL). In their not as long history, the Angels have 1 wild card, 8 West Div titles, 1 AL Pennant, and 1 World Series title. Regardless of the fact that Pujols is going to Anaheim, i foresee the Cardinals continuing a tradition of excellence.

Lets go Cardinals, 12 in 12!

    • New Manager

      St Louis Cardinals

Anyone else tired of baseball yet? no? good, me neither, in fact im ready for spring training to start. Anywho, the Cards announced yesterday that the new manager would be former Cardinals catcher Mike Matheny. This has me both pumped and wary. Pumped, because i loved Matheny when he played for the Cards, and he still remains a favorite of mine. Wary because he has never managed before. This lack of experience could be worrisome, but im looking at it like this. Matheny is a known entity to the Cards. Both the front office and to some of the players. He was a tremendous leader and its said that he helped hold the team together when Darryl Kile passed away in 2002. This team is also a veteran team now. They overcame great odds to win the World Series. What was mostly unproven is proven now. That should help the rookie skipper greatly. Another big help should come from Dave Duncan since he has indicated that he plans on coming back for next season. Its going to be interesting and i look forward to seeing what Matheny brings to the table. What do you guys think? Who would have been your choice?
