Yet another Trans Am conversion kit, this time from Gearhead Performance group. However unlike the Bandit and Lingenfelter concept this car has an optional LS9 engine out of the corvette ZR1 only with Twin-turbo chargers putting out 900 HP!!!

      Trans Am

Lingenfelter tuner group previews its newest concept car for SEMA next month based on the 2010 camaro body with the look of a classic 71 Trans Am interior and exterior. It would unquestionably be the most awesome TA ever with 655 hp and 610 lb ft of torque sourced from a custom engine block, with 11.5.1 high compression ratio, forged crankshaft, ported and polished LS7 heads, a LSX intake, LS9 Twin disk flywheel and clutch assembly, corsa exhaust and custom honeycomb rims on nitto tires. A lingenfelter employee commented in a camaro forum it could see production if their was enough demand. Dang I would send them my camaro if I had the money.

      OH YES!

Okay, so it's not completely official, but it's very close. Plans and models have been drawn up and completed and proposed to GM. High Performance Pontiac Magazine has a four page article interviewing Dave Byron of ASC Creative Services, and let me tell you, it is full of delicious goodies. Best case scenario the show car will be seen by the end of the year and a 2011 model is "absolutely doable" he says.

Byron says he needs the public to show a demand for it. I mean in forums and stuff online it's obvious that lovers of this beauty want a new one since the Camaro has released, but he says he needs dealerships calling up and requesting for this car. "Pontiac is going to be the niche division of GM with two or three performance vehicles. Now is the time to launch this project, get some excitement going."

Oh and one more thing. There is a Bandit version of the 2011 Trans Am. GAH! smiley0.gif

Although it's still unconfirmed at this point, Pontiac is pretty much guaranteed to get at least one muscle car from the prolific rear-drive Zeta platform (officially, Global Rear Wheel Drive Architecture) by 2010.

The first fruit of Zeta loins for Pontiac is the 2008 G8 sedan, which will replace both the long-departed Bonneville and the current Grand Prix early next year. The G8 will be exported from Australia, where the Aussies engineered the RWD family.

As for a second Zeta for Pontiac, Hopson confirmed the brand has been kicking around "heritage" names, including Firebird and GTO, for a future muscle car. Although either "can be done" relatively easily, we don't expect Pontiac to do both. Furthermore, although a Firebird would seemingly be less expensive to produce if it sharedâ€â€as it always didâ€â€its body stampings and many interior components with the Camaro, we suspect Pontiac is leaning toward the GTO.

    • Pontiac's Future in Jeopardy?

-Yesterday GM submitted its viability plan to the U.S Treasury Department as per their agreement to accept gov. loans, and the buzz from various credible car blogs is that the Pontiac brand will be killed off or sat on with no new models for a slow antagonizing death.
-However from what I can gather from GM's press release it that "Pontiac will serve as a focused brand with fewer entries, within the Buick-Pontiac-GMC channel", so technically there's still hope for a new Firebird/Trans AM. With the only announced future models being the Solstice coupe, G3 and the awesome G8 GXP that is already hitting showrooms.
-Until (via Automotive News) GM announced that all its high performance vehicles are on indefinite hold.
-I'm not going to lie I've cracked open the bottle of jack during these hard time for the auto industry lol.
