As some of you know, I've been working on a top secret 3D project for some time now. However I haven't exactly been getting the time I'd like to work on it, so progress has been rather slow.

Having said that, recently I got some time to make some advancements, and I have to say I'm quite pleased with one of the things I've worked on: The Earth.

This is the old earth render I did the first time around (a few years ago):

The stars and note falling from space are the new versions, but the earth mapping is untouched from the first version which I did about.... 6 years ago I guess (the video I'm making now is a remake of that original animation). It pretty much looks hand-drawn.

Since then, I've worked on a new map and have been putting more effort into things like detail, reflection, etc., and this is what I've come up with so far:

In this version, the clouds are actually a separate map, so I have more control over it. Also the reflection and bump mapping only affect the water, making it look a lot better than its predecessor.

I still have to add a decent atmosphere and some volume to the clouds, but methinks it's coming along well smiley0.gif

I still have a lot of extra freelance work to finish off, so this is probably the only advance I'll be making for a while. Also, I've pretty much disappeared off the face of the earth your journals and pics, but I still (yes, still) intend to make my best effort to get to them and at least read the important entries. There are hundreds of them by now, so we'll see what happens.

'Till next time,
