"The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a first-person story-driven mystery game focused on exploration and discovery. As occult-minded private detective Paul Prospero communicate with the dead to discover the fate of a missing boy and the mystery behind a dark ancient force lurking in Red Creek Valley."

This narrative story tells you upfront: it will not hold your hand. This open-world murder mystery is strongly puzzle and story based. The atmosphere of the game is suspenseful, but not quite scary (except for the very rare jumpscare). I finished the game in just two sittings due to the enthralling story line and intriguing world it takes place in. You can wander the world as you please, even with the relatively linear story. Along the way, you find some of Ethan's stories that help to explain what you've just experienced. For each puzzle, there was consistently a part I was missing, so I had this walkthrough open on my phone so I could check and see that I have everything.

The graphics are hyper realistic and the scenery is postcard worthy. Many times, I walked around purely to enjoy the view. Music as you're wandering through the woods keeps you slightly on edge. All the leaves rustle and all the water rushes and losing yourself in this game comes naturally. Eeriness awaits you at every turn of the path (or lack there of).
