English is such a funny language. It is a distinct tongue, yet has so many terms borrowed or bastardised from other languages. One of the most entertaining facets of English is how such 'borrowing' can lead to localised dialects. Not just accents but entire vocabularies can develop in different parts of the world (or even within one country if the population base is big enough) even though they all ostensibly speak the same language.

So how about it? What are some of your local terms or phrases that have crept into everyday usage?
Think of those words that everyone around you uses and understands but that might totally baffle an english-speaking visitor from another region or country.
