So, as I mentioned in my previous journal, I've moved to Ottawa to finish my final co-op work term (think paid internship if you aren't familiar with university co-op programs). Anyway, part of this 4 month chapter of my life is a 45-50 minute commute via public transit twice a day. Typically, my commutes to work or school have been at tops 15 minutes - and that was while driving a car. This whole "hanging out on a bus" thing is new to me. As tempting as it was to people watch, sleep, or blankly stare out of the window with my earbuds in, I've decided I'll spend my time better by reading!

I used to read a lot when I was younger, but since entering university my philosophy has been that I shouldn't be reading for fun if I'm not actually doing my assigned readings for school (the majority of the assigned readings aren't worth the time anyway, but that's not the point). So, for better or for worse I haven't really read much for the last 4 years. My first summer back from university is an exception because I hadn't started co-op just yet, but you get the point.

Anyway, I'm writing this journal because I finished my first book today, The Martian. Between the film coming out shortly, the talk about it on the Podcast, and it's setting (SPACE!!!!) I had to pick it up. Simply put, I loved it! I'm really excited to get to experience it again on screen and I figure it will be a good way to cope with the fact that I'm done reading about Mark Watney. From the trailers, it looks like there have been some changes, but that's to be expected and it's still a movie about space - so I'm in!

Next on my list, The Silmarillion.
