About three years ago, Burnie Burns asked me if I would be interested in becoming the writer and director of Red vs. Blue. He asked me like it was any other question in the world. Hell, he was grilling sausages when he did it and immediately followed it up with “Oh, pass me those tortillas”.
That question changed my life. And those sausages were outstanding.
It has been an honor and a privilege to not only work on the greatest web series in history, but to do it alongside some of the most awe-inspiring individuals I’ve ever met, and am now fortunate enough to call my friends.
When we started The Chorus Trilogy, it was almost solely on the shoulders of myself and Kyle Taylor, with Burnie and Matt acting as guides and Nico Audy-Rowland providing his signature sound. When we moved to Season 12, our small team expanded, bringing Josh Ornelas onto the machinima team, enlisting Clayton de Wet’s excellent sound design, and introducing animation into the trilogy through the talents of Chris Dike and Kristopher Peterson. As for the finale… it’s safe to say that it would never have been possible without the stunning team we managed to assemble. Old faces and new joined the project, each bringing something invaluable to the table, and together we did the very best we could.
As of today, Red vs. Blue: Season 13 is available on DVD and Blu-Ray in the RT Store and select retailers... and we’re pretty goddamn proud of it.
In the past three years, we’ve befriended giant robots, fought monstrous mercenaries, settled a civil war, awoken alien artifacts, and crashed several space ships… but we’ve also grown as a department, and as a family.
My life has also changed since this all began. I’ve made mistakes and have done my best to learn from them. I’ve had the pleasure of bringing amazing new people into my life, and have had to cope with the bitter loss of others. The one constant throughout all of it, though, has been you.
To you, who has watched our absurd adventures every week. Whether you loved it or you hated it, I would like to thank you for sticking with us until the end. I hope we made you laugh, cry, gasp, and occasionally curse at your computer monitors.
The Reds and Blues will return in Season 14, as will countless other characters from all across the RvB Universe for one, epic collection of short stories and adventures. It’s going to be unlike anything we’ve ever attempted, and I can say I’m just as excited as I am nervous. Fortunately, I’ve learned that sometimes... you just have to have faith.
And I do.
