Looks like UPS wants in on Amazon's lunch. The delivery service has begun testing of drones as a means of delivery.
The first trial sent a drone to deliver a small package containing a mock asthma inhaler to an island-based summer camp in the Atlantic. The drone for the test was provided by CyPhy Works, a Massachusetts-based company in which UPS is an investor.
The drone made the 3 mile trip across open water in 8 minutes to complete the delivery and operated autonomously.
The test was made possible by new rules put in place by the FAA around commercial drone use.
