      Aarpia

After ensuring his wrappings and hood obscured the majority of his face, Demus leaned on the long-since-washed wooden surface and waited for Bassim to approach. He didn't have to wait long before he heard the sound of heavy footsteps thudding against the oak floor and the jingling of facial adornments.
"What're you drinking?" Bassim asked as he came to a halt in front of Demus.
"Actually" Demus replied, his eyes shifting focus from the patrons to the owner, "I was looking to obtain some information on the whereabouts of a certain individual" Demus' hand disappeared inside his cloak before emerging again with a crumpled piece of parchment, which he laid out flat in front of Bassim. "Has this man passed through here within the last few days?"
Bassim picked up the picture and inspected it for a few seconds with a look of indifference. "Yeah maybe, maybe not. Who knows?" He put the picture back down and scratched the side of his nose.
"I thought you never forgot a face?" Demus replied, his gaze not leaving Bassim's eyes.
"Ah, but you see my memory is very hazy these days, I think maybe I could remember if I had a little something to help to process, if you know what I mean?"
Demus had expected this might happen, but it was a price worth paying if it meant he got a definite answer - especially if it meant he could come back here in the near future without having to fight his way in. Again he delved into his cloak, this time removing a small sack of silver coins and tossed it in front of Bassim, who quickly and eagerly swept it off of the bar and into his pocket.
"Oh I think those coins might be magical, suddenly my memory's coming back to me!" Bassim chuckled as he picked up the paper again. "Yeah he came through here yesterday. Best customer I've had in a while, too; he ate like a horse, paid his tab and left." His smile faded away and he propped himself on his left elbow. "What's your business with him anyway?
If Demus told him he was chasing a bounty word might get out, and then he'd have competition. He tried to avoid the question "You needn't burden yourself with such useless information. Now tell me, which direction did he leave in?"
"Maybe I'm just curious, huh? Maybe I need a few more of those magical coins of yours?" Bassim pressured.
He mulled his options over for a few seconds, but figured it couldn't be helped. Even if he did have to beat other bounty hunters to it, he'd have a head start.
"I've been offered a reasonable reward for his head."
The wry smile that had been persistant on Bassim's face up until now suddenly disappeared.
"No no no no, I don't help bounty hunters track down my customers, no way, this conversation's over."
"Damnit!" Demus thought to himself. He hadn't expected this and he needed that information one way or another. Even worse, mercenaries hated bounty hunters; he needed to shut Bassim up fast. He quickly withdrew another two coin bags from his clothing.
"Are you sure? I can make it worth your while..." Demus said as he threw the two pouches in front of Bassim.
"No way, you'd need more than a few silver to make me sell out to a bounty hunter." He instantly pushed them back toward Demus, "this is meant to be a sanctuary. If people start thinking I'll sell them down the river, then who's gonna keep coming here, huh? All my customers will be gone and I'll be broke!"
Bassim went to turn away, but before he could do so Demus' hand shot out like a bolt of lightning and wrapped its fingers around the large gold bar through Bassim's nose before slamming it down - along with the rest of his face - onto the hard wooden counter. This evoked a rather loud cry of pain from Bassim and immediately people in the vicinity stopped and turned to stare at the spectacle, unsure of how to react.
"You're going to tell me which way he went, if I have to beat it out of you."
"Fuck you!" Bassim muttered through pained, stifled breaths, "GUARDS! GET THIS SON OF A BITCH OFF ME!"
Immediately Demus could see the helmets of several of the hired muscle moving behind the crowd toward him. He quickly counted three to his right and two to his left. If he let go of Bassim to fight, he'd get away, and if he didn't he might get killed. Turning back to his captive, Demus found he'd unwittingly provided a solution. The barman's chunky fist was wrapped around a dagger intended for Demus' neck. He relinquished his grasp on the nose piercing and grabbed the offending hand, twisting it round until Bassim let out an anguished yelp and dropped the knife. Demus instantly caught it, slammed the now empty hand down on the bar, and with horrendous force, drove the dagger through it, straight down to the hilt. An even louder scream errupted from Bassim, who was now firmly nailed to his own bar.
"That should keep him still for a while."
      The two guards on his left emerged from the crowd, swords drawn. Seeing their employer, their eyes involuntarily widened a little and they paused, assessing the bizarre situation. They quickly regained their wits, however;
"Kill him! Cut his damn head off and bury him!" Bassim yelled.
They didn't need telling twice; both immediately made their way toward Demus, just as the other three found their way into the semi-circular ring formed by the patrons. The first swung his sword with his right hand, aiming for Demus' neck. Demus swiftly moved toward him, inside the sword's reach. Simultaneously, he gripped the forearm with his left hand, and drove his right -clenched in a fist- precisely into his assailant's throat. Before he could fall to the floor choking and the guard next to him could react, however, Demus positioned his leg behind his victim's, and flung him into the second, sending them both tumbling into the crowd.
The three behind him were now in striking distance, and the closest lunged forward in attempt to run him through. Demus instinctively knew the ameteur had put too much force behind it, and turned his body so that the blade narrow missed his gut. Sure enough,

It was bitterly cold. The nights in the East were always this frigid - an ironic contrast from the uncomfortable heat of the daylight hours. Still, Demus stood outside Baasim’s Tavern in the harsh wind, reluctant to enter. He did not particularly want to take the course of action he was about to take, but he had little information to go on, and this was his best shot at finding a lead.
The tavern was originally set up during the Western invasion as a middle ground where all soldiers could drink away their troubles. As a result the bar had adopted a strict policy of no weapons inside, and no fighting - and they employed a fair few guards to enforce it. These days, however, it was generally filled with mercenaries looking for work. Since the war ended there had already been a surplus of muscle to be hired, though many of them found positions within terrorist sects and guerrilla forces which opposed the Western Kingdoms’ rule in the East. With the appointment of a former monarch, Enoch, as the Grand Minister of the lands, however, many of the insurgent groups disbanded, content with the power being handed to a largely respected and popular former King. As a result the majority of those who did manage to find contracts had lost them.
All this meant that Baasim’s Tavern was going to be filled with a lot of people who would also want the information he was about to ask for, but most likely have to beat out of Baasim.
Demus sighed. He was confident he could defend himself from any assailants, but he might just get a bounty placed on his head for his troubles. He had considered killing everyone inside seeing as it would also serve to lower the competition, but there was no doubt some of them would escape and alert the Kingdom Guard, and he certainly didn’t want to be a fugitive from the state.

No, it looked like this was the only way. If he didn’t show his face then he’d probably get away with it anyway. He might even be able to squeeze some information from any of the patrons stupid enough to attack him if he didn’t accidently kill them. He raised his hood and covered his mouth and nose with his desert wrappings and walked up to and through the archway and descended the stone stairway. He found himself in a short corridor, each wall sporting a torch and a rack of weapons, filled -presumably- with those of the customers inside. Two rather large guards stood before him, both of which were wearing chain mail vests and had a sword on the belts around their waists.

“Your weapons…†The guard to his right said in a gruff voice. He held out one of his hands, while the other gripped the hilt of his sheathed sword in case Demus refused.
Demus quickly considered dispatching the two guards, but the noise might cause anyone behind the door at the end of the corridor to lock it, stopping his plan before it had barely begun.
“Of course.†He said plainly, and drew his sword with one hand, taking care not to point the sharp edge in the guard’s direction lest he took it as a threat. He handed it over, and the guards began to stand aside prematurely, before stopping to see Demus take off his cloak to reveal the larger part of his arsenal. The two guards busily found slots on the rack for Demus’ weapons; two curved blades strapped to each thigh, a knife on his right calf, a long sword across his back and a set of throwing knives on the strap across his chest.
“Busy day?†One of the guards asked, as he put away the last of his belongings - clearly quite amused by the larger-than-average set of arms he had been carrying. Demus didn’t answer, invoking a frown from the guard.
      “Well, in you go then.â€Â
He carried on to the end of the corridor, the muffled voices and laughter becoming louder as he approached the heavy wooden door. There was no handle, meaning there was indeed a guard on the other side. He stopped and banged his fist against it three times, to ensure he would be heard. Sure enough, a small gap was exposed as a steel peep-hole was opened, revealing a pair of inquisitive eyes. They looked briefly at him before searching past to find the two previous guards at their posts. Apparently satisfied, the latch closed again, and several heavy clunks were heard as the door unlocked, and then opened.

Immediately the clunking of mugs and rowdy drunks became more audible as he stepped inside and looked around - just in case his bounty was here. After a quick scan of the faces he could see he moved further in, weaving his way between old, wooden tables and various violent-looking men as he headed toward the serving area. As he went he threw a few cursory glances to evaluate who the potential combatants were. Turning his attention back toward the grotty, beer-stained bar his eyes found Bassim - busily 'cleaning' empty mugs behind with a ragged, dirty cloth.
Bassim was a portly arabic man in his 50s or 60s. Supposedly he was quite handsome when he opened up here 30 years ago, but time had been unkind to both his body and his temperament if he was as irate as Demus remembered him to be. He hadn't helped matters himself; his ears were both laden with several golden hoops and -- most strikingly -- he had pierced his nose with a large, gold bar. He was famous for often boasting, "I never forget a face. And nobody forgets mine either!"
That's why Demus was here. If the man he was looking for had been found his way inside and spoken to Bassim, he would remember.

As you may well know, Armored Core 4 is being released for both the P$£ and the 360.
What you may not know (although again, probably do), is that AC4 will be different for the 360.

You may not have noticed. I posted a thread asking for advice from fellow gamers, on gaming consoles. Not some sad-story about how my life sucks, or talking about how much I hate school. For you to think that I actually did is pathetic.

There was absolutely no need to lash out in such a violent way, and you, being the one who commented like that, are the arrogant asshole. Not me.

You are of course aware that Satanism is not the worship of Satan, but the belief that one should live a purely hedonistic life?

Yes I am aware of that, and it is one of the reasons I am following this path. I mean what sane person would subject themselves to pain when they can live a life of pure pleasure?

I was just thinking, it's too bad we're usually on opposite sides of every conversation we seem to have in the forums. We actually have quite a bit in common. I won't go into specifics, but I can usually judge a person's character pretty well from the first few minutes of a conversation. If we ran into each other on the streets, I'd be willing to bet that we could have even been friends. Just wanted to share that thought with you, and all sarcasm aside I really do hope the holidays are treating you well.
