What a fuckin' nightmare that was. You'd think they'd be able to figure out how to use their PCs by now, but they can't help but frig it up.

"Ok, keep clickin' next until it says finish."
"Ok *click**click**click*...what do I do here?"
      "Huh?"
"It says standard or custom install."
      "...keep clicking 'next'."
      "Oh, ok *click*..."

Yeah, about that good. Fuckers. Workstudy kids did ok, only got themselves in over their head a few times. Much better than it could have been.

Supervisor took me aside today. Apparently he wanted to apologize for doing most of my duties while leaving me stuck in the office watching idiots fuck up an Auto Install of Microsoft Office. It'll be nice to consistently out and about now, I could use the exercise.

Wednesdays though will be hell for the next couple of weeks. Just me until noon, with maybe a few workstudy kids. Goody goody. I'm so damn happy, can't ya tell smiley4.gif .

Anyway, I'm tired, mentally, so I'm gonna go read. Talk to yall later.

Bill Bailey is a funny man.

Anywho, so far no word on what I will be doing this weekend. I'm supposed to moving my sister in law into her dorm and then going out to visit some friends.

Worst case I'll hit the range and probably clean up around the apartment (it's in need of that, it's been a while).

Anywho, it's late and I'm tired so I'll talk to yall later.

At the school, I applied for a new position. This position has the responsibilities of my current job as well as some new duties which are very, very cool. The job was listed as an internal listing only so AFAIK, it was advertised outside of the campus website. I have no idea who, other than myself, has applied for it.

Today I got an email from one of my old coworkers from a previous job. He was congratulating me for my promotion. As I know it, there is still a week left for applicants to apply, then there is the interview.

Needless to say it's a little funny that they would write from out of the blue and congratulate me for getting the job, even though I don't yet have it and it was advertised.

Anywho, I think it's time for me to cook something for dinner. I'll talk to yall later.

    • Sick today

      Anastasius

Sore throat. Supervisor told me not to come in if I felt like crap. Felt crappy, so here I is, home in my reclining chair. What really sucks is that we don't have cable/satellite, so I have nothing to watch except for movies (which I've seen a few hundred million times).

I took a shot of NyQuil earlier today (6 am) and I'm still feeling the effects. Damn that stuff rocks.

Anyway, the rest of today will be spend lounging around until I feel alive again, then perhaps I'll go for a walk. My throat is feeling much better now that I've actually given my body some much needed rest.

      Have a good one folks.

    • Today was a better day

      Anastasius

A lot better than the last one. The regimental students were getting their first dose of "Look at me!! NO!! Look strait ahead!!! March you lazy bastards, MARCH!!!" today. It was funny to watch. The NROTC kids are getting their dose as well. I'm glad I'm not military, I don't believe I could deal with it.

Anywho, I actually got some stuff accomplished today, learned a few things, and got to talk to my supervisor about some of the 'inner workings' of our department. By 'inner workings' I mean stuff thats going on that I didn't previously know about. It's amazing what can be going on in your own department that you didn't know about. Whats even more fun is when it's stuff that involves you. Good times, eh?

Saturday I've been recruited to help my sister in law move into her dorm. Goody goody. I'm outta shape by quite a bit and she always has a shit ton of heavy shit for me to lift. I think this fall/winter I'm going to make a definite effort to hit the gym and try to shed some of my beer/soda gut. Anybody got any good diet tips for a carnivore?

Sunday I'm supposed to go do something with my wife and some of her friends. Dunno what, but I'm sure it'll involve me doing something that will result in permanent injury. Oh well, what can ya do, ya know? Hopefully we'll be doing BBQ at their place. My wife's friend's husband is a good cook.

Monday is the first day of classes for all of the little kiddos here. Good times. I'm sure we'll have half a million of them in the shop trying to get online. Fuckers. EVERYONE had better be here in our dept. on Monday or I'm gonna flip out and start killing people. Think I can get one of you all to help me post bail? Please?

I need to get my hunting rifle out and sighted in here sometime soon. It's a 6.5x55 sweedish mauser. I believe I posted a pic of it before. I also need to pick up a little more ammo for it. I've only got 40 rnds, and I'd like to have quite a bit more than that. I also need some 7.5 x 55 swiss, 7.62 x 39, .30-06, .45 ACP, and .40 S&W.

Well, time to go home. I'm gonna go do something, not sure what just yet, but I'll be sure to take pics if it involves fire or explosions. Talk to yall later.

Today, from about noon on, I was by myself. Everyone else was gone. Lucky me. That was about the same time that all hell broke loose, and I ended up nearly loosing my mind and breaking my hand (punched a steel door, not a good move).

Had a long line of students show up. I asked "Who needs to have office installed?". I get two hands. I take them in first, set 'em up, and go back to the line. I asked "Ok, who needs helping getting online?" Three kids raise their hands. I get them to set up on a work bench just for this kinda stuff. I then start asking the remaining students what they need.

"Ok, you there, what do you need today?"
"Uh...I need to get office installed."
"...ok, why didn't you say then when I asked who needed office?"
"Um...I thought you were talking to the people in front of me."
      *sigh*

Another person came in and sat on my lunch. Yep. Thats right. Sat on my fucking lunch. I had it sitting in a chair in a plastic bag, and they just plopped right down on it.

"Dude, thats my lunch you just squashed!!"
"What? Oh. Sorry." [hands me the bag]
      "Yeah, thanks a lot."
"So, yeah, I need some help and..."

As you can guess, this is about the point where I punched the door. No blood, but my fingers went numb. Kid probably thinks I'm nuts and need anger management classes. Fucktard.

Next on the hit parade is that my network manager insists on us using AVG 7.5 for the students here. He says it's awesome. I say "Ok, if thats what works best." Now I find that it's not Vista compliant. Of course it's not, I forgot. If we have it on hand, and it works with our network management system, it's not compliant with their antivirus software. Brilliant!

Ok, I'm going home. Fuck this shit.

    • Ok folks, here's a tip

      Anastasius

Ok, listen carefully. When you get a popup on your system that tells you your antivirus is out of date or not working, don't get click happy. Sometimes it's not legit. Seriously. Please, think before you click. Otherwise you get to deal with me, and I have no sympathy for your iTunes collection that just got annihilated or all of the pics of your kid which you can never replace. I'll say you earned it.

So the next time you get an Interweb Exploder (IE) window that opens telling you that you need to "Click Here to update your Antiwindowsvirus software", give me a quick call. I don't mind. It'll save me a few hours.

This post is brought to you by AntivirusXP 2008 and a big frickin' hammer.

Take a gander and tell me what you think. I'm not too sure I want to buy 8mm ammo that promises 30% less recoil than a 9mm but provides 10mm terminal performance.

    • I had to work today

      Anastasius

That was all kinds of fun, not! 12 hours of answering the same questions over and over and over and over and over and...

Distributed 52 laptops to students today. That was fine. What wasn't fine was that our 'station' was an afterthought and we weren't even advertised to the students who bought PCs from us, making us hard to find.

Then we did a Q&A session that was more of a geography lesson for those who stopped by. By that I mean I spent more time telling people where shit was in the surrounding area than I did answering questions.

Last were 3 sessions for registering student PCs on our network. So many of these people just wouldn't do it and made us do it. No attempt on their parts, just lots of "I don't know how" from 'em. Wanted to tell 'em to sod off but that isn't really an option.

Anyway, I'm really worn out and slightly inebriated, so I'm gonna go to bed.

Just to note, I had to read this five times or so to catch the spelling mistakes. Awesome and stuff.

      boobz, lol

Lol a friend of mine took that pic at his summer camp. They were doing some sort of construction and it flooded the river. The river was just on the left of the CAT. But after the river flooded, it surrounded the CAT in about 1-2 feet of water. They can still get to it, but it's stuck on that little sand bar til the water goes down a bit. lol

I've heard an interesting analogy on what's going on there...

Imagine that you have a car, and you want to know what all's in it, and how it's put together, and know pretty much nothing about it..

From what little you can see from the outside, you can come up with a few ideas of how it might work, and they're so cheap that you can buy a million of them.

So, you take two of them & drive them at each other really fast. They hit, and shit flies everywhere. You take lotsa pictures of the shit as it flies everywhere.

By looking at those pictures, you can see, that thing there, we'll call it a tire. And because it moved so far from a collision that happened at such-and-such speed, we have an idea of how much it must weigh. And because every time we crashed two of these cars together this way, it went in a certain direction with a high probability, we have an idea, also, of how well it's attached to the rest of this "car" thingy...

If we want to know what the rest of the car is made of, though, we'll need to slam these cars together a lot faster. Let's go build a Large Hadron Collider! It'll fling those "cars" at each other really fast!

Part of my final in my accounting class is a take home test and we have homework to turn in with it Thursday when we take our in class test. Well, the homework is excruciatingly long and tedious, and the last three pages of the take home test are just taking the numbers and plugging them into the formulas they tell you to use. Well, I did that and for about half of the problems, I can't get them to match up to any of the multiple choice answers, and I've tried everything, manipulating the numbers, trying different formulas, all sorts of stuff, but none of it works. That and I don't understand what's going on in the class except the formulas [which i guess I don't really understand if I can't figure this out...]. And tomorrow I'd be able to leave after about 15 minutes if I had finished the take home today. But I can't leave until I finish it tomorrow. And tomorrow it's supposed to rain like hell so the sooner I get home the better. I'm gonna ask some people in there about it tomorrow and ask the prof too to see just what I'm missing. Because I have to missing something...

Meh like I said i overreacted. lol it's been a stressful day.

After reading a few more articles with more info on what the particles are and what the chances are and all that it seems a little less likely than the first one made it seem. Still a little worried but after reading that there were a lot more scientists that backed it and said the chances of catastrophic annihilation of the world is extremely unlikely than the first article led on, I'm better. lol

Still odd though. This has the potential to destroy the foundation of most major religions and the intelligent design argument altogether. I wonder how long it will take for the religious zealots and Vatican to hear about this and freak out and have it destroyed by secret Vatican and other religious ninjas.

    • maverickgtr

Yea I was just reading about it. I understand the black holes being harmless now and all... but the stragelets do seem like an issue and the scientists working on it immediately dismiss them because "they haven't been proved." Well protons weren't proved for a long time but they exist. They also argue that if stragelets exist why isn't the whole universe strangelets already which is true, if they did exist then most of the universe would be strange matter already.

Idk I over-reacted at first but I'm still worried about it. They're not just playing with their lives, they're playing with the lives of over 6 billion people too and they're not even really considering the downsides which is what really gets to me I guess.

Huh, I just noticed yours doesn't have a shell deflector/forward assist. Is that an old SP1 uppper?

Nope. new LoPro DPMS upper. Forward assist is unnecessary. If a round doesn't want to seat properly, there is already a problem, extracting the round is a better solution than slamming it in harder. As for the deflector, it doesn't seem to matter, they all go about 5 feet right, they don't fly all about the place.
