Just got back from Wall-E a little bit ago. Great movie. Awesome movie. I'm definitely buying a copy when it hits blu-ray.

I also got my membership card for the local Rod and Gun club. I'll probably go out there this weekend and put some rounds through my pistols. I'll have to have my dad bring up my 10/22 when he comes to visit.

Now, I'm going to order a good sharpening kit and some more blades. Talk to yall later.

The wife is trying to play Lair on the PS3. She's been flying around getting her ass kicked for about 15 minutes now. Being a gamer, this is painful for me to watch. Now she's telling me that she's actually hurting stuff, even though her health by is dropping rapidly. I think I'm gonna go in the other room.

We won't see anything for a while, but when we do it'll be nice. I bet it'll get the commodities traders all in a huff (well, technically it already did).

I just automated the software install for a piece of software we commonly install on PCs. I was told by the vendor that there isn't any way to do it. Hehehe, silly vendor. Seriously, this program is crazy powerful. I can run scripts with it as services on computers, turn programs off and then turn them back on, all kinds of fun shit.

Bought some new music off of iTunes. Worlds Collide by Apocalyptica. Pretty decent stuff. I know that the wife will want a copy. I'm still waiting for Reflections to come up on iTunes.

Tonight I have to listen to my wife tell me about her Brian Adams/(whoever was on tour with him) concert, even though I'm not fond of him or the other band that played. *sigh*, I guess it could be worse. I could have kidney stones.

      <.<

      >.>

Can I have kidney stones instead?

Tomorrow I'm going to see Wall-E with the wife. Should be good, quite a few people here said it was good, and it's pixar after all.

I started shaping the handles for another knife last night. This one should be nice any easy, no goofy ass shapes to deal with. Tomorrow I intend to order another blade or two, as well as a good sharpening kit.

Thats it for now, talk to yall later.

European recession looms as Spain crumbles
      By Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
      Last Updated: 2:15pm BST 15/07/2008

The eurozone is tipping into a deeper downturn than America itself despite the tremors in the US mortgage industry, and may already be in full recession for the first time since the launch of the single currency.

Industrial production for the EMU bloc fell 1.9pc in May, according to fresh Eurostat data. It is the sharpest one-month decline for the region since the exchange rate crisis in 1992. Officials in Berlin have warned that Germany's economy could contract by as much as 1.5pc in the second quarter as export orders crumble.

Industrial output in both Italy and Greece has slumped 6.6pc over the past year. Portugal is off 6.2pc. "It is a very ugly picture: we're on maximum alert," said Emma Marcegaglia, head of Italy's business federation Confindustria.

Rome is now lobbying for a "New Deal" to revive Italy's economy through massive infrastructure projects.

The idea is to use bonds issued by the European Investment Bank, allowing EU states to circumvent the 3pc limit on budget deficits imposed by the Maastricht Treaty.
      More Ambrose Evans-Pritchard
      More on economics

Jacques Cailloux, Europe economist at the Royal Bank of Scotland, said a "reverse decoupling" is now under way as Europe goes down harder than the US - just as it did after the dotcom bust. "There is loss of momentum across the board. We can't exclude a recession," he said.

Spain is now spiralling into the worst crisis since the Franco dictatorship. "The economy is in dire straits," said Dominic Bryant, Spain expert at BNP Paribas.
      advertisement

"Some of the housebuilders are going to go bust, it is as simple as that. Over 10pc of Spain's economy has been building houses. This compares with 6pc-7pc in the US at the height of the bubble. The adjustment will be enormous," he said.

Fear haunted the Spanish property sector yesterday after the share price of developer Martinsa-Fadesa crashed by more than 50pc in two days, leading to a suspension in trading by the Madrid bourse. The real estate and shopping mall group has so far failed to secure refinancing for its â'šÂ¬5.1bn (£4.1bn) debt. The board held an emergency meeting yesterday.

Finance minister Pedro Solbes said the Martinsa-Fadesa crisis was turning "more complicated" but denied that there is any risk of a chain reaction across the sector. Banco Popular is understood to be the most exposed bank.

The crunch engulfing Spain's property market is rapidly turning into a full-fledged national drama. The developers' association APCE said house prices had already fallen 15pc since September. Unemployment has risen by 425,000 over the past year, reaching 9.9pc.

Deutsche Bank said the property crisis is more serious that the collapse in the early 1990s. It expects a 35pc fall in real house prices by 2011 as the market slowly clears the vast overhang of property, now estimated at nearly 700,000 homes.

In Castilla-La Mancha - Don Quixote's region - some 69pc of all houses built over the past three years are still unsold.

Spain's premier, Jose Luis Zapatero, blamed the European Central Bank for making matters worse by raising interest rates into the teeth of the crisis last week. He called the move "irresponsible". More than 98pc of home loans in Spain are priced off floating rates linked to Euribor, which has risen 145 basis points since August.

Mr Zapatero has resorted to a fiscal boost worth 1.5pc of GDP to help cushion the slump. But Spain's budget surplus is turning into a deficit as tax revenues collapse. Car sales, for instance, fell 31pc in May. The Bank of Spain is concerned about the health of smaller regional lenders with heavy exposure to the mortgage market. Deputy governor Jose Vinals has called on banks to set aside more against bad debts. "Provisions need to keep rising throughout the year. Prudent coverage levels are needed to face this situation with confidence," he said.

The precipitous slide now under way in Europe has yet to cause investors to lose their ardour for the euro, but a number of analysts, including Bill Gross, head of the giant bond fund Pimco, say there is no justification for the euro's 25pc to 30pc over-valuation against the US dollar. "We're turning incredibly bearish on the euro," said BNP Paribas.

The counter argument is that the US has merely stolen growth from the future with this spring's one-off fiscal stimulus package. Dollar bears expect a nasty second leg to the crisis later this year, forcing the Fed to slash interest rates to 1pc or lower.

Goldman Sachs said Europe is the "tie-breaker" for the whole global economy.

      New D.C. Gun Restrictions Unveiled

      POSTED: 10:00 am EDT July 14, 2008
      UPDATED: 12:31 pm EDT July 14, 2008

WASHINGTON -- D.C. officials unveiled new legislation Monday imposing strict controls on handguns and rules for registering firearms in the District.

The new regulations come after the Supreme Court struck down the city's 32-year-old ban on handguns last month, ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller that Americans can keep guns at home for self-defense.

Handguns will still be banned, except for self-defense in the home, city officials said at a noon news conference. Sawed-off shotguns, machine guns and short-barreled rifles are still prohibited.

Police will register one handgun per person for the first 90 days after the legislation becomes law, city officials said. A six-month amnesty period will be set up during which residents can register guns already in their possession.

Police will require ballistic testing on handguns before they are registered to see if the weapon was stolen or used in a crime, officials said.

The new legislation also modifies existing law to clarify that firearms must be stored unloaded and either disassembled or secured with a trigger lock, gun safe or similar device, officials said. The legislation includes an exception if a person reasonably perceives a threat of immediate harm to a person within a registered gun owner's home.

The D.C. Council is expected act on the emergency legislation called "Firearms Control Emergency Act of 2008" during the July 15 legislative session.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier also announced new rules for registering firearms and licensing firearms dealers.

D.C. residents who want to register handguns must complete an application from MPD's firearms registration section, pass a written firearms test and provide photos, proof of residency and proof of good vision. They will also be fingerprinted.

Residents can take approved applications to licensed firearms dealers within the District to pick up their weapon. Weapons purchased from dealers outside the District must be taken to dealers in the city to complete the transaction. Ballistics tests will be performed before the weapons can be taken home, police said.

Police will allow residents to register handguns they already own for the next six months. The Office of the Attorney General will not prosecute residents for unregistered possession during this amnesty period, but people who have committed crimes with firearms will remain subject to prosecution, police said. People who bring a firearm from another jurisdiction into D.C. must take it to the Firearms Registration Section or notify the section they will do so within 48 hours.

Police also clarified rules for becoming a licensed firearms dealer. Dealers must be licensed by the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, among other provisions.

Didn't the Supreme Court just get done telling these fuckwad, waste of space, mouth breathing cum bubbles that they can't do this shit? WHAT THE FUCK!! What are they going to do, keep doing this until we give up? Fucktards. I can't wait for this to go back before the courts. Maybe this time the lower court will realize that this shit is unconstitutional and strike it down. If not, the SC will have to step up and enforce their ruling.

When it gets enforced, I hope they use a really big hammer.

ETA: Heres a bit from the Heller Desicion:

      From DC v Heller Decision:

The handgun ban and the trigger-lock requirement (as applied to
      self-defense) violate the Second Amendment.
      The District’s total ban
on handgun possession in the home amounts to a prohibition on an
entire class of “arms†that Americans overwhelmingly choose for the
lawful purpose of self-defense. Under any of the standards of scrutiny
the Court has applied to enumerated constitutional rights, this
prohibitionâ€'in the place where the importance of the lawful defense
of self, family, and property is most acuteâ€'would fail constitutional
      muster.

Similarly, the requirement that any lawful firearm in the
home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock makes it impossible
for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense and
      is hence unconstitutional.
Because Heller conceded at oral argument
that the D. C. licensing law is permissible if it is not enforced arbitrarily
and capriciously, the Court assumes that a license will satisfy
his prayer for relief and does not address the licensing requirement.
Assuming he is not disqualified from exercising Second Amendment
rights, the District must permit Heller to register his handgun and
must issue him a license to carry it in the home. Pp. 56â€"64.

Today was a total fuckin' wash. I got very little accomplished because some people had to play the "Hurry up and wait" game with me. Fuckers.

The rain we were promised today didn't come, so it's still really frickin' dry here. So long as the state doesn't catch fire like Kalifornistan, we'll be in good shape. I hear that they got themselves put out and now they're sliding down the hillside. Way to go Cali!

Some people have asked if I plan on selling some of my knives. Maybe, but I still need some more practice. Besides, with what I'm making I cannot guarantee the quality of the blades themselves, only the shape and fit of the handles. Most of the stuff that I can get (thats economical for me) is either 440C or AUS-8 (japanese version of 440C, though better min my mind). I can get blades made out of D2, L6, ATS34, CM154 (Crucible version of ATS34), S30V, VG10, and some other higher quality steels, but they are also pricey to get. If I fuck one up, I get to eat the cost and I can't afford to do that right now. But if you're want one anyway, I'll make ya one.

Anywho, I just finished my chicken nuggets (mmm...artificial store bought chicken product), and I'm going to work on my skinner. Talk to yall later.

Bufford wanted to see the sheath that I had made, so here's a couple of shots. It's my second attempt at one (first one was, well, kinda craptastic).
      blade.jpg
      blade2.jpg
      blade5.jpg
All of the stitching was done free hand. I used a scratch awl to punch the holes (after I measure them out...somewhat) and then stitched it up with some waxed cord and a number 0 harness needle. I did use some leather glue in some places to help hold it together as I went, but I think the stitching is pretty solid.

Here are the other two knives that I have to finish. The first one is a gift for my dad. It's made out of 8670 tool steel. I plan on making a brass bolster for the front of it, and I have a mosiac pin for the 3/8 hole at the rear. I'll also be using the 1/8 inch holes along the sides for the handles instead of the 1/4 holes down the center.
      blade3.jpg

This one is an AUS-6 or 8 (I can't remember) skinner. 3/16 pins and I've got a 1/4 inch brass tube for the lanyard hole. It still needs quite a bit of polishing before I can move on with it.
      blade4.jpg

Anywho, thats it for now. I really need to go fishing.

In doing my knife building and sheath stitching, I've actually learned quite a bit, and gotten quite a bit better. My next task is to learn how to properly attach a bolster to a blade and shape the handle accordingly. This should prove to be interesting.

In other news, the UN has decided to try someone as a war criminal...

      news.aol.com/story/_a/al-bashir-may-face-genocide-charges/20080711133809990001

UNITED NATIONS (July 11) - The prosecutor of the world's first permanent war crimes tribunal will seek an arrest warrant Monday charging Sudan's president with crimes against humanity and genocide in Darfur, a move U.N. diplomats warned could bring a backlash from Sudan's government..............

Yeah, be sure to let us know how that goes. Wonder what they'll do when Sudan laughs at the messenger? Probably just sent a stern letter, but that is about it.

In other news, the wife and I found a home that we're kinda interested in. It's a single wide trailer, but its on a fair piece of land along with a large two car garage and a large in ground swimming pool. They want $84,000 for it right now. Current owner claims that he/she/it can heat the place in the winter with only 250 gallons of oil. If so, that'll take care of our heating worries. Two car garage means home away from home for me to work on knives in peace. I'm going to email the real estate agent and get some more details about the place. With any luck, they wife and I could be in a place before fall. That would rawk.

Tomorrow the wife has to work, so I'm gonna go do some fishing. Talk to a couple of long time fisherman for some tips about the river, and with any luck I'll be landing some fish tomorrow.

Right now, I'm gonna enjoy my beer and relax. Have a good one everybody!

Yeah, $15 is an awesome deal. Especially when you consider that H&K mags, which are the only other ones I'd trust my life with, are a minimum of $40. If they're not issued. And they weigh twice as much and failed the truck test.

    • Havoc1

Indeed, it's a PMAG. I'm very impressed with them. And they're $15 a pop, which is only a couple bucks more than what it costs to get the shitty USGI mags.

dedbob is using them to shoot motherfuckers in the face. That's all the endorsement I need.

While I'm sure it could have been faked, these two videos are pretty convincing as well:

Holster will fit a fat guy. Matter of fact, it might be better for a guy who overlaps his belt a bit. If you saw the pictures, you saw that it has a leather backer that goes between the pistol (mostly the grip) and the body, to prevent it from digging in. Both sides of the leather where the kydex bolts on are adjustable up and down a total of about 2.5" by using a series of 4 holes. That allows you to cant the pistol and also bring it up or down in the waist band. I keep mine down low with one side a hole above the other side for some cant. Works great! I forget I have it on most of the time. Let me know.

Sorry about the HD, I hate it when that stuff happens. As for the storm, that sounds like quite the light show! I would have loved to have seen it.

We are expecting more today...but I will be shocked if its as bad as yesterday. I will try to videotape it next time.
