Yesterday morning(assuming we're talking -0500GMT), I arrived in Warsaw with my Dad and brother. We're visiting family members of ours who we haven't seen in 10 years. My cousin Sylvia gets married a week from now. While I have yet to see her, I should be sometime this afternoon. I'll be posting pics of my travels sometime soon. Till then I won't be updating much, but I hope you all have a great Independence Day!

There was a Fark party in Boston this past Saturday night. I have a friend who lives in Worcestor, MA, who I haven't seen since October or so. I figured it'd be cool to hang out with her, so I drove the ~250 miles or so on early Saturday afternoon to her place, and got back home in NJ around early Sunday evening. (Edit: Yeah, the 4.5 hour drive kinda sucked, but it was relaxing too, oddly enough)Here's some pics:

      I badly crave this shirt:

I wish I could think of something witty to say about this pic:

This is why the two girls were staring at my drink(promotional ad for Axe deodorant, "Drama Queen" written on the glass):

I wish she lived closer than Worcestor...

      Time for a whiny moment:

I think I broke an Xbox 360 wireless controller of mine the other evening.

I was excited when I finally got my Torx T8 security bit, the exact kind that can be used to disassemble a 360 controller without damaging the screws, like some sites might have suggested trying. The whole point of this was to remove the 0603 surface mount LEDs and replace them with new colors. I figured the N64 had controllers that came in multiple colors, why not do the same with my 360? I wanted to have my four controllers match the color scheme of the Microsoft Windows logo, with both the actual case and the lights. Each controller would be red, blue, green and yellow, and the LEDs surrounding the 'X' in the middle would have similar color LEDs to match that.

Well, things went awry when I tried to reassemble it. I got it all back together...no there were NO leftover parts, haha...and when I went to go activate it? Nothing. It just laid there all dead and crap. According to Google I'm probably the only person who's had this problem, but it confounds me to think that this is the case. SOMEONE must've had this come up and gotten it fixed; trouble is, I can't figure out where I went wrong in the first place.

I'm usually good with tinkering around with crap like this-I don't want to just toss it though, that'd be a waste of $50. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi everyone-yes, as the title suggests, I'm still alive, and still check up on people's profiles, comment pages, etc. etc. every now & then. I just haven't really been in the mood to comment much or update stuff on here.

I'm sure many of you are aware of Penny Arcade's Child's Play Charity that they do every year for Christmas. Well, in trying to be somewhat charitable during the Christmas season(could've done better), I bought some stuff for a nearby hospital in Newark, NJ(or very near there). I logged into Amazon just yesterday, February 12th 2006, and saw the following picture. Now, let's get something straight, I'll be 24 in May, I'm single(sigh, whole other story there), and of course, I have NO children whatsoever.

I have inserted my thoughts, opinions, and commentary into the image(click to expand)as you see below:

    • Finally, an update

      Artmageddon

After a bit of hounding from a grand total of 3 people(you know who you are, jadebait, liz, and the curly motorcycle chick) who still check up on me anymore, I decided to finally update my journal a bit. There've been a few reasons for my absence here on RvB over the past few weeks. To get this out of the way, I realize I almost couldn't have worse timing given the hurricane, so please don't see this as an attempt to whore attention.

I can't use my internet being down as an excuse anymore. That thing's been purring along for weeks, for that which I am happy. The primary reason though has been work. Up until recently, I was stressed the hell out over this project that we're working on. I still am, but we've seen progress recently that has allowed me to finally breathe a little. I won't get into many details, but basically we're working with a database which very few of us were trained for, me not being one of them. According to the other half of our group(who is based in Houston, my half here in Jersey City), "When you're asked a question by the users, you're considered the experts on it." That'd be fine, if I knew how the damn thing actually worked!. I consider myself a fairly competent guy, but I felt anything but after doing this project. Other teammates felt the same way. Luckily, we've been able to figure stuff out and have since moved along quite nicely.

Aside from work, I also got a bit disllusioned with RvB, and some of it's residents. I was just tired of the inane debates about every damn little thing, the whole modding system, and just tired of a lot of the people on the site. I felt like hardly anything new was being talked about. People would just be dicks for no reason at all. People would also try to have fun, a la the Stealth BARs. Sheesh, people can't just talk about stuff at random? Give me a break-the amount of shit people talk on the net is amazing. I got tired of the popularity contests, too. I don't mind if people do photoshop contests, hey, nothing promotes creativity like a competition.
Edit: This guy, JohnLethal's journal post describes EXACTLY my beef with this mod system. I made it to +20 without showing pictures of titties. Personally, I could care less about going higher.

The whole NOLA thing with the hurricane didn't help either. I wasn't going to talk to people about that on here-hell, people get into fights about Windows vs. Linux, I'm only wondering how much flame has handed out here. I'm sure there was a lot of support, too, but some of the racial BS I saw just sickened me. I turned off the news on Friday afternoon.

Plus, it didn't help that I got into it posting mostly during the iterim of season 3 and season 4. Now that season 4 is on, I'll probably start posting again, as I'm checking the site more. I really do love RvB though, I still think it's a great work. I doubt Burnie or Gus or Geoff or anyone else will read this, but you guys rock. It was awesome meeting you at the Lincoln Center in 2003. I wish I coulda made it on the 29th of August, but stuff came up.

Not that many, if any, people care, but I hope you can forgive my absence. I hope to hear from at least a few of you

What made you realize you were "old"? I woke up sometime a few months ago, looked in the mirror, and said, "Aw damn, I'm friggin old!" It hit me when I realized I was having to go to bed at 10:30 every night(have to wake up at 5:30 everyday now for work), and adamantly making it clear to friends that I needed to, who were able to stay out much later than I. I also realized it when a college buddy of mine just bought a house for himself, and that I'll need to get on that, along with establishing credit and a retirement fund soon. I'm 23 years old.

How about the rest of you?

      Artmageddon

So I finally decided, "Hey, I oughta write a journal entry, it seems to be the in thing here on RvB!" I don't exactly have a whole lot to write here, but it's finally good to see (knock on wood) that Comcast finally got their act together, though this is pretty much the umpteenth time that they've had to fix it.

Come to think of it, do they have a number for Umpteenth? I mean, Googlplex is a real number, why not Umpteenth? Oh well.

Hopefully I'll have more interesting material to put on here. I'll probably give it thought when I'm at work, which is when I'm posting most frequently, since my job is either boring, or gets frustrating to the point where I'm not really doing much work, (much like Peter in Office Space). Expect to (maybe) hear about upcoming wedding exploits, and possibly groaning about my job-well not groaning per se about the job itself, but the lengthy commute. Er, well, no, cuz then that'd be attention whoring-no one really likes one of those, unless it's from a really hot girl...with the exception that you see her on an avatar but ends up actually being that of a 15 or 28 year old guy just trying to get profile hits. I mean, come on, really.

Maybe I'll put up a picture of Brooke Burke, just for the sake of doing it at some point. Mmmm, Brooke Burke. Later!

A really good friend of mine is getting married in a few weeks, and is also a real practical joker-this is our chance to really get him good, since he'll be dependent upon many other people for making the day go "smoothly". The best man, the groom's sister(who I believe is also a bridesmaid, if that matters at all) and I have conspired to pull a prank off or two(depending on what we can do) at his reception following the ceremony, but we're kind of strapped for ideas. Any suggestions you guys have are greatly appreciated.

Here's the rules for it though:
1). Pranks must be non-malicious. This means no M-80's/naked people in the wedding cake, hiring a prostitute to burst into the hall during the speech and say, "OMG he farked my brains out last night", etc.. The bride & groom are Christian. No satanic bible verses, no "hiring priests with child molestation jokes". Good, clean fun. It also must NOT be a major disruption.

2). Money is not really an issue(but if I had to put an upper limit on it, I'd say $300 for whatever materials we may need to pull off a prank).

3). The pranks must be for the reception only, so that means either the rehearsal dinner or AFTER the ceremony. We will not interrupt the ceremony-it'd be harder to pull off, plus my girlfriend would have my balls for it(on a plate to her cats).

4). The bride + groom already know about the key prank-where young women in the room are given a bunch of keys, and the best man says, "Okay, Bob has found that one special woman he wants to spend his life with. the rest of you need to return the apartment keys he gave you." Great trick, but it won't get them.

This is a traditional Church wedding, and the reception is taking place at a tavern nearby of sorts. The participants in the wedding will be arriving/departing in limos. Any ideas?

This question's for the financially savvy, but anyone can fan the flames. The deal is this: I just turned 23 not too long ago, and got a decent job earlier this year. At some point in my life(read: soon; as I'm still living at home), I'm going to want to buy a house, which will be the precursor to my nuclear silo I plan on using for world domination*, and other things which may require credit.

What is the best way to establish credit(and keep a good rating)? I mean, beyond the obvious-anyone will tell you, "Duh FArtmageddon, get a credit card and pay the damn thing every month." Do you gain credit faster by having a balance every month? I'm the type of person who pays stuff off in full first chance I get. I don't have any huge oustanding debts. I just paid(in full) for a new car, and I don't have anything like student loans holding me down. All I really have to worry about at this point every month is my cell phone and gas(car insurance is also paid off for the year). Thing is, I've been a secondary holder of my parents' credit card for many years(just before I was 18), but I was told that this doesn't accrue credit, by another that it does accrue credit. Which is right?

One time, I was told by a banking teacher of mine back in college(very cool guy, very reputable) that a simple way would be to go to a bank, get a loan for the smallest amount possible, then just pay it back the next week. I actually tried to at one point-the lender didn't object to it(outright, at least, but found it sorta rather unusual), but I backed out since I wasn't confident in what I was doing at the time(about 2 years ago)-so that may work.

Anyone have any particular strategies that worked best for them? Anyone ever get dicked over by a credit card company? Share your stories!

    • Diamonds: A Girl's Best Friend?

in Forums > Diamonds: A Girl's Best Friend? | Follow this topic

      Artmageddon

This is for all the girls out there, but guys are more than welcome to contribute. Can someone PLEASE explain to me what the BFD is with diamonds? I've been debating this with my girlfriend(dating her for 2+ years, we're both 23, no plans of marriage just yet) and various other women about it. Every one of them has this sort of compulsion that diamonds are the ultimate form of bling, and that the bigger the rock, the more love you'll get for it...or some shit like that. The centerpiece of my question stems from what my girlfriend told me some time ago from a marriage conversation we had: "If you ever decide to propose to me, the ring that I get better had be a real diamond."

Okay, so no Cubic Zirconia's, I can live with that. I don't know how many here have been keeping up with advances in metallurgy(or whatever field this involves), but within a few years, it will be possible for diamonds to be manufactured(on a large scale). Most of them will be used in things like computing and construction, but there's no saying it couldn't make it's way into the bridal industry, for lack of a better term. The produced diamonds will be nearly indistinguishable from diamonds extracted underground. My question to the ladies is this; if your man proposes with one of these man-made diamonds, would you accept it, or throw it back in his face like a CZ? There are a lot of reasons I'm hoping man-made diamonds become ubiquitous; do NOT NEG MOD me please because cheapness is not one of them*(blood diamonds, bullshit marketing campaigns / monopoly, etc.)

For the unitiatied, here's a link from Wired: New Diamond Age. It's from 09/2003.

The story about the tampons -

We were having PFC girls' night at a friend's house, and all of us were over there in our pjs, being girls and whatnot. Apparently my friend Elizabeth told her boyfriend Curtis to get us some chips and soda. So he did. He brought those things, along with five other PFC guys. They tried to take our food, but we shooed them out. Since they live right down the street, we decided to get them back. We found a box of 40 tampons, and put them in water. We left a few of the in the applicators so that we could shoot them. We ran over to the guys' house, in the rain, and crept into their house. They weren't there, so we stuck wet tampons on the walls, and in the freezer, and everywhere. And we also stole all of their appliances. Because they stole Elizabeth's toaster. And it was fun.
