I did it. 3 months of hard hard work. Harder than anything I've done before has finally begun to pay off. Let me first explain what I'm talking about. I have been trying to join my University's Robotics team. This may sound easy to most of you, but it's the most competitive thing here. It's about as hard as getting a merit based scholarship. This is just my first semester in Uni and I decided to take up this task. I love computers and programming but I have only had a very basic experience in robotics before. I was going to be working with and against others with as much or more experience than me(mostly more). Quite overwhelming, but I was still unfazed.

The selection procedure was conducted as a four phase process:
      1. First Interview
      2. Tutorials
      3. Robot Design Competition
      4. Second Interview

Each of these phases was designed to cut the number of participants by about 40% each. We started with over 200 applicants and only 120 remaining after phase I.

We were then split into three groups based on our interest, namely - Software, Hardware and Mechanical. I joined software as I absolutely love to code.

Our seniors designed a three week intensive tutorial schedule to familiarize us with the basics of robot design and building. The weekly sessions were compulsory and anyone who missed a session was considered to have dropped out. Each week was exponentially more challenging than the previous.which discouraged the faint of heart and those with less interest and skill to drop out voluntarily. Just as an example, we went from switching an LED on and off with a switch to making a calculator with an LCD screen and controlled by an XBOX controller in one week.

After the tutorial we were then split into 8 teams of about 10 people each and were briefed on the competition. We were to work together to build two robots.- one automated "smartcar" that could follow a path without having to be controlled by an operator and the other "manual" robot which was to be used to construct a tower of small cylinders and be controlled by one person. We had 30 days to complete this. We decided to work on the smart car first as it sounded like it would require rigorous testing and then began work on the manual car.

A month later, Team 4 (or Steam War Chicken, as we liked to be called) won the competition, not only did we come out on top, we also managed to make the most cost efficient robot at the same time. We are not done yet though. This did not mean we were in yet. We still had to go through phase 4. 3 people from our team of 10 decided to drop out at this point because they had realised that this was not something they could keep up for long.

Interview part 2 went smoothly for me, the air this time was way more relaxed and fun than the first interview. People were joking, laughing and telling stories. We were a team. We were having fun doing what we liked and were beginning to feel like nothing could stop us.

Today I received a mail telling me I got into the team for the RoboCon competition. I have almost never felt the sort of excitement and accomplishment that I have felt from this experience. Best of luck to the rest of Steam War Chicken and May the Force Be With You.

I got conditional acceptance into HKUST, and that means i get in if i get an 85% or above in my finals. I was hoping to get a 95% before i got this news so I'm confident that I'll get in.

Pardon me for the language, all y'all gentlefolk.
It's been ages sinceI've said anything on here but I'm here to continue the journalling of my life.

My final school exams of all time are going on. IT's the worst thing ever. Three months of house arrest for every indian 17 year old basically. Our school finished all our work back in December. So we basically had two months to prepare for the final "Board" exams. IF that wasn't bad enough, the exams began on Feb 11th and go on till April fricking 1st. april%20fools%20day%20memes%203.jpg

I have spent a lot of this last year studying hard but now I'm hardly studying and I just can't bring myself to. Honestly I'm just sick of the entire charade. Most of my friends are almost buckling under the pressure to do well and other related shizz, but here I am bored out of my wits, listening to 5 podcasts a day and actually watching all the RT/AH stuff ( a feat I haven't been able to do in over a year)

TL;DR: Exams suck. I am bored, instead of being motivated

So it's this time of the year again. The time when you realise that this year is going to cease to exist in a few hours. This year has gone by way too fast. But actually it hasn't. So much has happened when I look back. My board exams, leaving my old school, moving to the new one. Then I had to get adjusted to this school. Make new friends(easiest thing ever). Play more basketball. And study like crazy because these last two years of school are the most important as I'd like to get into a good college.

My list of Achievements of 2012:
      1) Be a part of a Televised show on NGC - 100G (
      2) Get selected to the Basketball team - 5G
      3) Participate in Basketball tournaments - 10G
      4) Win a Swimming medal at the National Aquatics Meet - 2x20G + 10G = 50G (2 silvers and a bronze)
      5) Get 90% in the boards - 25G
      6) Become an RT Sponsor - 10G (Thanks to @PogiTangkad )

      My Goals for 2013:
      1) Learn a different programming language other than JAVA( C++, c# or python)
      2) Study moar
      3) Improve jump ability enough to touch the basketball ring
      4) Improve culinary skills
      5) Begin doing household work myself( washing clothes, ironing them, CUC)
      6) Work-out
      7) Waste less time doing unproductive work.

P.S. - None of these goals are probably going to get done but I'n going to try

      Happy New Year!!

      My new year plan

Movie Night is a weekly planned event where a group of us get in TeamSpeak, and we find a place online to watch the movie. You can also own the movie and watch it that way.

But we sync it up and watch it and enjoy it together on TeamSpeak.
