    • Audio Assistance!

Hello folks one and all, I have a question about internet audio stuff, since most people on here make things maybe someone - or someone you know - could help!

We occasionally run webinars at my office for people looking to learn more about VFX, which is awesome, but they've never properly kitted them out so our equipment is kinda sucky. We've finally got the budget to upgrade and I want to make sure we do it right.

The ideal set up would be as follows -
4 microphones go into 1 mixer, said mixer goes into one computer, that computer is the one that hosts the webinar.

I need 4 microphones of good quality that aren't stupidly expensive (think less than £150 each) that are NOT usb mics. I want analogue mics so I can run them through the mixer. I'm thinking proper mics rather than headset mics.

So, Podcasters, Twitchers, Let's Players and general internet chatterers - any suggestions?

I will somehow reward anyone who can help with.I dunno, haven't figured that out yet.

    • Guardians of the Galaxy - Cast and Crew screening

Saw it yesterday - it's even better than you think it's going to be. I'm physically sad right now that I'm not watching it again

Because it was a cast and crew screening there was an intro from Gunn, but no secret scene at the end so I have to go and watch it again - and I can't wait. I've ahd the soundtrack on most of the day and I keep bursting out laughing remembering bits of it - it's genuinely hilarious Here's some stuff from the blog I wrote for work about it -

Seeing a film at the cinema is often a contained experience - you'll go with one or two other people, silently praying that no one else in the theatre makes a noise for the next three hours,
arrive just in time then leave straight away afterwards, casually asking the opinion of your companions as you leave to see if the cramp in your butt was worth it.

This was not the case for the cast and crew screening of Guardians of the Galaxy. Shown at the same Odeon in Leicester Square where fancy celebrity premières are held, I was lucky enough to experience watching Marvel's galactic super hero epic surrounded by the artists and crew that made the film possible, and it was completely different to an average cinema viewing. We arrived over an hour before the film began and as the seats quickly began to fill, and there was a buzzing atmosphere in the room. It was the anticipation, the feeling of a few hundred people willing the film to be good, the excitement of seeing their work up on the big screen, and I think it's fair to say they can all breath a sigh of relief - because Guardians is incredible.

Guardians takes a few notes from the Avengers film - a great team dynamic, an powerful threat, tonnes of all out action and a very health dose of humour - combines them together and takes them to the far reaches of space in what ends up being an extremely funny, heartfelt, and very entertaining film. Although all the cast are great, it's Rocket and Groot who quickly stand out, being so charming and believable throughout, and it's a testament to the hard work of our friends at MPC and Framestore that the two totally VFX characters become the heart of the film. It's not just the characters though - every shot is visually stunning, resulting in probably the best looking film I've seen in years.

As the film drew to a close, thunderous applause erupted throughout the room. This was months, or for some people, years of long hours and hard work on one of the most anticipated films of 2014, and everyone who helped make it in any way, shape or form should be proud of themselves, because as both a comic book and film fan, Guardians exceeded my expectations in every way. And it was so encouraging to talk to the artists afterwards and find out that they enjoyed the film just as much as me.

Guardians was is a truly great film, and I am humbled to have had the opportunity to see it with the hard working men and women who made it possible. Thank you all so much - can't wait for the sequel!

    • Looking for Extras in a short film on Saturday, West London

      Can't be there myself but if you're interested, here's some details;

"Last weekend, some of us got involved with HaZ's film shoot and had a great time. There's another shoot at Escape Studios (Shepherds Bush, West London) this coming weekend (Saturday 14th), where we need two different sets of extras.

Set 1). FBI Cyber Terrorism HQ scene - arrive on set for 13:30 and finish at 18:00

Set 2). FBI Confronts Dr Kominsky scene (Lobby "social gathering' scene) - arrive on set 18:00 and finish 20:00

HaZ needs different sets of extras because one scene is the FBI HQ and one is a Tech summit social gathering - so we can't have the same people in each scene... unless you're a master of disguise!

We need a large group of people for both, so please let us know if you can make it (which shoot option) and please invite your friends along too. Bringing friends along just makes it all the more fun.

Refreshments will be provided for both sessions, your name will feature in the credits (as well as IMDb) and most importantly, you'll help this story get made as a feature length film. Pretty exciting project.

By supporting this film, you're helping an independent filmmaker (HaZ) gain the recognition he needs to raise finance for a bigger scale project. HaZ is a really talented filmmaker, with his previous work being celebrated across the web. No doubt, this project is going to be an important moment in his career.

Vote for his last project (Project Kronos), nominated for a VFX CG award."

Let me know if you and anyone else you know can come along. The more the merrier

Drop me a PM if you want more deets

What editing software do you use for the podcast?

I process the audio with Audition, then take the files into Premiere for the actual edit. I work with these programs for a living so I do it at work
