I know its been a long time since Ive posted one of these inspirational stories so I thought I would do it once again! Hope you guys like this one as much as I did.
      ----------------------

During the waning years of the depression in a small southeastern Idaho community, I used to stop by Brother Miller's roadside stand for farm-fresh produce as the season made it available.

Food and money were still extremely scarce and bartering was used, extensively. One particular day Brother Miller was bagging some early potatoes for me.

I noticed a small boy, delicate of bone and feature, ragged but clean, hungrily appraising a basket of freshly picked green peas. I paid for my potatoes but was also drawn to the display of fresh green peas.

I am a pushover for creamed peas and new potatoes. Pondering the peas I couldn't help overhearing the conversation between Brother Miller and the ragged boy next to me.
"Hello Barry, how are you today?"
"H'lo, Mr. Miller. Fine, thank ya. Jus' admirin' them peas...... sure look good."
"They are good, Barry. How's your Ma?"
      "Fine. Gittin' stronger alla'time."
"Good. Anything I can help you with "
"No, Sir. Jus' admirin' them peas."
"Would you like to take some home?"
"No, Sir. Got nuthin' to pay for 'em with."
"Well, what have you to trade me for some of those peas?"
"All I got's my prize aggie, best taw around here."
"Is that right? Let me see it."
      "Here 'tis. She's a dandy."
"I can see that. Hmmmm, only thing is this one is blue and I sort of go for red. Do you have a red one like this at home?"
      "Not 'zackley . . . but, almost."
"Tell you what. Take this sack of peas home with you and next trip this way let me look at that red taw."
      "Sure will. Thanks, Mr. Miller."

Mrs. Miller, who had been standing nearby, came over to help me. With a smile she said: "There are two other boys like him in our community; all three are in very poor circumstances. Jim just loves to bargain with them for peas, apples, tomatoes or whatever.

When they come back with their red marbles, and they always do, he decides he doesn't like red after all and he sends them home with a bag of produce for a green marble or an orange one, perhaps."

I left the stand, smiling to myself, impressed with this man. A short time later I moved to Utah but I never forgot the story of this man, the boys and their bartering.

Several years went by each more rapid than the previous one. Just recently I had occasion to visit some old friends in that Idaho community and while I was there learned that Brother Miller had died. They were having his viewing that evening and knowing my friends wanted to go, I agreed to accompany them.

Upon our arrival at the mortuary we fell into line to meet the relatives of the deceased and to offer whatever words of comfort we could. Ahead of us in line were three young men. One was in an Army uniform and the other two wore short haircuts, dark suits and white shirts, obviously potential or returned missionaries.

They approached Mrs. Miller, standing smiling and composed, by her husband's casket. Each of the young men hugged her, kissed her on the cheek, spoke briefly with her and moved on to the casket.

Her misty light blue eyes followed them as, one by one, each young man stopped briefly and placed his own warm hand over the cold pale hand in the casket. Each left the mortuary, awkwardly, wiping his eyes.

Our turn came to meet Mrs. Miller.

I told her who I was and mentioned the story she had told me about the marbles. Eyes glistening she took my hand and led me to the casket. "This is an amazing coincidence," she said. "Those three young men, that just left, were the boys I told you about. They just told me how they appreciated the things Jim "traded" them.

Now, at last, when Jim could not change his mind about color or size... they came to pay their debt. We've never had a great deal of the wealth of this world," she confided, "but, right now, Jim would consider himself the richest man in Idaho."

With loving gentleness she lifted the lifeless fingers of her deceased husband. Resting underneath were three, magnificently shiny, red marbles.

Wow, havent been on here in a long while have I? Well, seems like I didnt follow up on my last journal on trying to pop in more. Dang, almost a year since. Well, to give you guys an idea of whats been up with me, I have had a very eradtic and somewht problematic year.

School was alright during my first semster, but not very good. Second semester turned out terrible due to a rather big problem that came back. I mentioned long ago I had depression and was in fact suidical during that time. Well, I estimate about 4 months ago, many of those old feelings and thoughts resurfaced and I was close to the edge again. My mind was always in a sense of constant paranoia to a degree. Didnt sleep, lost my appetite, pretty much felt like a slug through the day. I couldnt stop thinking about alot of my issues and I bottled them up and let them simmer until it got too much. I had intervention from my sister and a friend this time before I had another Darkest Hour (for those that remember that story I wrote long ago). The next day I immediately setup a meeting with a counselor. Been going for 3 weeks now.

I'll try and make an effort to actually post here more, but I try to keep myself occupied with alot of things to help myself not to dive again. And yes, my Watch List was VERY long.

I would guess that some maybe wondering where the heck I have been. Well work has been starting to take over alot more so I am usually a wee bit preoccupied. Also, my sister is going to be moving out and down to Florida so lots to do there. and of course its summer, think of some summer activities and yea, I have mostlikely been up to them (except anything where I swim....havent had much chance to do that). I'll try and pop on more when I can.

      -----------------------------------
A snort could be heard from Preston. "Such an unruly lot. Back in Omeron, we never had to worry of such things happening with the Yellow Guard patrolling all about."
Noah sighed and lowered his head as he prepared for his cousin's latest dissertation on the superiority of Omeron and his family to Rentre and Noah's. Noah could never understand how anyone could have such an inflated ego and staggering sense of superiority. Many of Preston?s remarks often made him cringe in how profoundly stuck up he often sounded around his father's court. Rentre, while still a large city, was a much more isolated place compared to a trade city like Omeron. In Rentre, each person had their own skills and specialized in them just Omeron. Smiths handled wagon wheels and armaments, bakers handle the pastries, and cobblers fixed everyone?s shoes. Noah learned early on that everyone was superior to you at some point for some reason.
Preston on the hand seemed to believed himself to be the greatest at everything, even if he had no idea what he was doing. During one particular lesson with Monfred, Preston had decided that the lecture was unnecessary and proceeded to being mixing elements together with wanton fervor. Monfred, who lectured while Caden and Noah took notes, was only able to throw the concoction out the window before a loud explosion could be heard and green foul smelling smoke began to waft into the study. Noah, Caden, and Preston ran out of the room into the hall where the air didn't come directly from outside. Shouts could soon be heard as the foul smelling green cloud began to descend into the city. Monfred eventually came out and looked furious.
Preston coughed a little bit to rid himself of the taste that filled his lungs a bit before addressing Monfred. "You shouldn't use spoiled ingredients for our studies Alchemist."
With that, Preston strode off leaving Noah and Caden flabbergasted and Monfred simply seething. Noah shook his head as he distinctly remembered that the ingredients for that lesson had all been different minerals and dried herbs mixtures. How Preston had created that foul smelling cloud, Monfred wouldn't say, but Noah knew that all that they were supposed to be creating that day was a simply incense for meditating to.
      "Isn't that right Noah?"
Noah snapped out of his memory as his cousin addressed him. "Sorry?"
Preston looked annoyed again like before. "I said that we should just take a carriage or at least a cart down to the outpost. Who are we to get saddle sore from the ride on these walking rugs? Honestly?"
Noah just groaned inwardly as his dear cousin started up once more. "May I have the patience of the Faceless One to not kill my cousin...." Noah prayed under his breath as the band continued on and out of their home.

Shrieks and wails could be heard outside the large cavern as the storm began to pick up in tempo. All of the animals were soaked the bone and very weary from having to fight the powerful zephyr in order to reach this haven. Bo and Twig both had shook the rain from their coats immediately upon entering the cave and now were simply looking a bit harassed by the storm. Gray horns normally simply shook their heads of the water, but Twig had learned the trick of shaking his whole body from Bo.
The band of travelers set about to assigned duties they had. Everyone had a few logs of dry wood they had brought with them, in anticipation of this situation. A large fire could be started for themselves to cook over while two more could be started to allow the animals to dry and warm themselves with.
Noah and the Knights kept post at the entrance and tended to the animals while the Caden and the other Rangers arranged the fire pits. Caden had setup his fire pit and waited for Nikolai to review it just to make sure everything was as it should be. When Nikolai checked that all the precautions were in order, Caden pulled out a pouch of powder and sprinkled a little onto the logs and what little tinder they could find inside the cave and just outside the mouth of the cave. Caden then pulled out his flint and struck it sharply with his dagger, setting sparks flying. The moment a spark landed on the dust, a large FOOM could be heard as the fire brought warmth and light into the cave.
John, whistled in appreciation at the trick. "Nicely done Caden. What did you sprinkle on the logs?"
"Just flour. I remember Monfred telling me about a story he heard from a traveler from the east. This fellow had wanted to see the famous Windmills of Sky Peak. One of the mill workers warned him not to bring any flames near the windmills and the traveler asked why. The miller told him that the dust from floor can explode if it's dry enough and there's enough dust about when a flame is lit. I figured that extremely fine flour could probably do the same and I know that is one reason why Mary-Ann keeps the flour in the cold cellar when its not being used by the bakers."
Noah was about to comment about how impressed he was with Caden for remembering the tale when he heard a derisive snort come from behind him. Preston stood leaning against the wall glaring at Caden with unabashed hatred as Caden continued to explain other alchemic things he had learned from Monfred. Noah had always hated Preston for this one fact. Caden had never done anything to Preston and yet Preston held this unwavering hatred for him. It was completely unfair and unjust for Preston to treat Caden the way he often did, but his mother had told him to not bother Preston about it.

lol ello everyone! long time no post huh? Not even a happy story or lesson in like a week! Want to now why? I have been working on Chapt 3 of my story! So here you go! On with the story of Caden, Noah and everyone else in Equina!
      -----------------------------

The overcast was very cloudy and dark blue despite it being mid-morning. The clouds above had all the signs of the coming rains and everyone was scrambling about. Early summer winds could become extremely powerful in the mountains, causing rain to turn into stinging pebbles upon bare skin or even causing the lonely, unwary travel to know the way a leaf feels upon the wind.
Bo sniffed the air and let a low growl show his displeasure. Caden, with his hand tightly wound in the scarf around Bo's neck patted him on the side. "It's alright. We know about the coming rains, but we need to at least make it to the outpost in 3 days if we want to rendezvous with the caravan on time."
A well-known merchant from Redvine had scheduled to make a stop at the Southern Nonan Outpost to restock on supplies before making his way up to Leo's Way. His supplies would be waiting, as well as mercenaries hoping to higher themselves up for additional security from bandits. Leo's Way was a short distance to Ryn, so Duke Drake arranged for his sons to travel there and then make the ride to Ryn.
Many of the Onyx Knights were garbed in simple mercenary attire while the Night Rangers look the part of woodsman. Each lad was placed where his skills would be least conspicuous. Noah was dressed as a young mercenary fresh to the group, while Caden was attired as an apprentice hunter learning his craft from his masters. The "mercenaries" were recently discharged from the Twilight Corp for disorderly conduct and were exiled from their home. The hunters were leading them to the Southern Nonan Outpost on their way to Monarch Rose.
"It wouldn?t hurt to bring along others to deal with the luggage."
Caden's head swerved around to Preston once again complaining about the lack of servants coming on this trip. Caden shook his head as Preston tried to order for more of his luxuries to be loaded on other mounts for his own pleasures. When Lord Garrick learned of the trip, he insisted that Preston join Noah and Caden, as they would need his superior leadership and nobility as they traversed to Ryn and then to Berseen to meet with Baroness Morgana. At least that is what Duke Drake told him after Garrick approached him about what he overheard from Noah.
Noah came riding up on his gray horn Twig. Bo looked over and saw the familiar gray horn as it came to stand next to him. Twig looked over to the great wolf he had come to know as well. Both Twig and Bo had grown up together as much as Caden and Noah did. Bo was still a cub when Twig was born in the stable. The two, despite their obvious differences, had learned to be friends for their masters' sakes as well as their own. While Bo could see and hear better than any other creature on Equina, Twig could feel vibrations from the earth and air. Gray horns could tell when the weather was going to shift as well as know where the ground was unstable and great wolfs never get surprised by any other creature. Between the two of them, Twig and Bo had come to protect their young masters many times.
Noah pulled on his leather gauntlet and adjusted his waterproof leather cloak. "How are we supposed to put on this charade with him coming along??"
Caden fidgeted with his own leather cloak, hating the ties in front near his neck. "I don't know, but we need to start to move out soon. Nikolai says that we need to cover quite a few miles today if we want to make it in time."
As if on cue, Nikolai, the red haired Night Ranger that helped to save Noah and Caden from the monstrous creature, strode out on his own gray horn and shouted, "Alright, we are leaving now! The gray horns are all fidgeting from the coming storm! Come on lads!"
Preston looked cross as his demands had been seemingly ignored. He and Noah exited the keep in the company of John and his so called mercenaries. Four Onyx Cavalry Knights had their pole arms strapped to their backs while John and his three fellow Onyx Sword Knights bore longswords at their side and cross-marked shields on their backs. Like any discharged soldier, their shield's blazons were scratched with large Xs on them to mark their disgraceful leave from their master?s service.
Caden smirked as he pulled his hood over his head and fastened so as to prevent it from flying up while riding. He and the four other hunters trotted up to Nikolai as he lead the way down one of the least traveled streets and out towards the edge of the city. The main road was a few streets over from where the band of travelers were. Even from that distance, the hustle and bustle of everyday life in Rentre could be heard. Farmer's carts could be heard plodding along the cobble streets while merchants from the various stores all along the way could be heard praising their wears while berating their competitors next door. Everyone tried to get their business done quickly as everyone could see the coming storm. As it was, there were also the occasional screams of a thief and the shouts that followed the daring pack of urchins in their perfectly executed plan of action. By the time any order had re-established itself, the money purse that had been swindled had been passed among 5-7 different hands, making it incredibly hard to keep track who had it when.

    • Puppies for Sale

      Chicken Soup for the Soul

A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read "Puppies For Sale." Signs like that have a way of attracting small children and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store owner's sign. "How much are you going to sell the puppies for?" he asked.

The store owner replied, "Anywhere from $30 to $50." The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. "I have $2.37," he said. "Can I please look at them?"

The store owner smiled and whistled and out of the kennel came Lady, who ran down the aisle of his store followed by five teeny, tiny balls of fur. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy and said, "What's wrong with that little dog?"

The store owner explained that the veterinarian had examined the little puppy and had discovered it didn't have a hip socket. It would always limp. It would always be lame. The little boy became excited. "That is the little puppy that I want to buy."

The store owner said, "No, you don't want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I'll just give him to you."

The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner's eyes, pointing his finger, and said, "I don't want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I'll pay full price. In fact, I'll give you $2.37 now, and 50 cents a month until I have him paid for."

The store owner countered, "You really don't want to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run and jump and play with you like the other puppies."

To this, the little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the store owner and softly replied, "Well, I don't run so well myself, and the little puppy will need someone who understands!"

      The Beginning
It was a sweltering day in the woods. Eric's clothes clung to his skin with sweat and the muggy air didnt help at all. He constantlly wafted his shirt open and closed to fan his body as he continued to walk. Running would probably get him there on time, but when the world is a sauna, it just didnt seem like a good idea to show up out of breath, his clothes soaked, and Eric ready to pass out. The occasional breeze was sometiems a blessing, but often times it felt like a hot breath in the face. Eric's pack sat on his shoulders uncomfortably and seem to weigh much more than when he started out earlier. His dark brown hair was matted to his head and he wiped his forehead on his sleeve.
Eric felt his legs quivering and he finally accepted the fact that it was just far too hot to do much else now. Luckily he happpened upon a small glade with a clear spring. The bark of the beech tree was nice and smooth as he eased himself down and rested. He nodded off.
      Eric awoke

    • Black and Gold Boxes

      Ashayden

      By: Author Unknown

I have in my hands two boxes
Which God gave me to hold.
He said, "Put all your sorrows in the black,
And all your joys in the gold."

I heeded his words, and in the two boxes
Both my joys and sorrows I store.
But though the gold became heavier each day
The black was as light as before.

With curiosity, I opened the black.
I wanted to find out why.
And I saw, in the base of the box, a hole
Which my sorrows had fallen out by.

I showed the hole to God, and mused aloud,
"I wonder where my sorrows could be."
He smiled a gentle smile at me.
"My child, they're all here with me."

I asked, "God, why give me the boxes,"
"Why the gold, and the black with the hole?"
"My child, the gold is for you to count your blessings,
The black is for you to let go."
      --------------

How often do we actually switch the role of the boxes? Do you count your sorrows or blessings?

Of course I'm still having problems with women, it's me, what else could possibly cause a depression for me, but I'm over that girl, she fell for my best friend and I met a really cute girl last night at a party I went to.

wow, thanks for the info on constantine. yeah, brown pointed that out in the da vinci code that constantine used to be a sun worshipper and he changed the national religion to christianity only as a fad and to appease the people. ahhh, mr. brown. well, who knows if he is right....

there are a LOT of stupid people, then, bless their hearts... i love proverbs--they're so wise. ever notice how you can say whatever you want about someone and add "bless their heart" at the end and it makes it all better? if that doesn't cut it, you can even add random adjectives in front of "heart."

i don't know. i haven't gotten into the mangas yet. i'm working on my plus membership to naruto fan, but in the meantime, i'm stuck with the three episodes per day from naruto chaos. i'm at ep 168 so far. but based on what i've seen, i would imagine they would tell the kakashi story with an overuse of flashbacks, methinks.
