    • The greatest heroes of Skyrim...

      Bayard The uneasyDreamer

...will be tributed in this journal.

I would like to tell you all a story of events that transpired in a normal day in Skyrim.

I was in the Eastmarch, having travelled there with the intention of climbing to Northwind Summit, to visit the Word Wall there. With me was my trusty steed, a horse I had chosen to call Maplehoof, that I had recently purchased in Windhelm. As I reached the base of the mountain, I was set upon by a dragon. By now I was used to this sort of thing and so dismounted and set about killing it.

After killing the dragon I looked for Maplehoof. I found her a short distance away, where she had apparently kicked a group of bandits to death and then settled down to wait with her front hooves in their cook fire. I was a little surprised, but mounted up and set off up the mountain side.

While riding along a cliff-top part way up the mountain, I was attacked by a cave bear. This being the fifth bear to attack me that day, I was somewhat tired of it. So when I dismounted, rather than draw my weapons, I used the Unrelenting Force shout to blast the bear off the mountain side.
The next thing I know Maplehoof was charging past me and leaping off the cliff, apparently in an attempt to kick the bear to death before it hit the ground. When I went to the cliff edge I was naturally expecting to see them both dead.
I was half right. The bear had died, but not only was Maplehoof not dead, she was currently charging back the way we had come in an attempt to reach me.

I descended the mountain a ways to find Maplehoof dispatching a large frostbite spider part way along the path. Mounting up, I resumed my journey to the summit.

Near the top of the mountain I was attacked by another dragon. This time Maplehoof not only fought the creature, but also dealt the killing blow.

This horse simply does not give a fuck about any danger. It will fight anything and everything.

And thus ends the first chapter of The Saga of Maplehoof: Greatest Hero of Skyrim.

More to be added as it happens.

Have her be really formal and call everyone Sir/Madam.

Thinking she would want everything to be clear and straight cut and proper and not have any room for error.

    • simskiller

The game itself still needs to be introduced, have you thought of a crystal related Sburb/Sgrub?

    • simskiller

Aaahhhh, so the Maid of Rage is a completely new character (at least to me, and the readers). Can't wait for the next piece then.

    • simskiller

That's good to hear, though I thought she was already introduced at the end of the last piece you sent me. Still until the denizens are actually introduced/there's a need for them, we can continue brainstorming ideas.

    • simskiller

After thinking for a few days, I came to the conclusion of having the Comedy/Tragedy masks as the Maid of Rage's denizen (I was thinking of Hexidecimal from Reboot). After a quick google search I found they were based after the god Janus. Reading the wikipedia page it seems like a time god though, what with the looking into the past and the future.

That reminds me of something I read once about someone that could not see the present, only the past and future. I forget where I read it though.

    • simskiller

It seems the maid of rage is becoming your favourite character so far, or is she just fun to write? Guess that ties into favouritism...

First guardians usually do interact with the kids on some level though, Bec with Jade, and Doc with like, nearly all the female trolls. They're the manipulators and controls of the world and make sure things go right.

OOOO and have you read any of Gregg Bears work? He has great descriptions in his books.

I stared at it for a while, then laughed when I finally got it. I was rotating them the wrong way the first time.

    • simskiller

What does that actually mean? I found a card with different flavour text on it, as well as that card.

    • simskiller

Yes, a first guardian would be good, maybe make it a minor character noted in passing. Then again it depends on how big you want it to be and how important to the story it is.

After a google search, I didn't really find that much about him besides he's a big ass dragon, then I ran across a article that quotes him as "a self-absorbed genius- a pretty good nutshell description of Niv-Mizzet!"

I am getting terrible of typing out replies, thinking I've posted them and switching windows, only to come back and find that I didn't post them after all.

Yeah an arrogant super smart dragon would be pretty cool.

      Yeeeeeeees

    • simskiller

Aahhh that would explain how you managed to make the moon red then.

Let me just insert this here: Charon for the Guide's denizen, don't think Charon is depicted as very talkative and it is ship related. Still it's your decision.

Also prefacing this with: I've left this and come back to it a few times and that's why it's taken me a while to get back to it.

Also let me just copy paste this over:

      -Guide of Silence* - none
-Seer of Void - Phix (?)
      -Rogue of Mind* - none
      -Knight of Doom - none
      -Maid of Rage - none
      -Mage of Heat - none

-Guide of Silence needs something that does not talk a great deal.
-dual nature would be best for the Maid of Rage

      Suggested Denizens:
-Fenrir or Cerberus for maybe the Maid of Rage,
      -Thanatos
      -Prometheus
      -Moddhey Dhoo,
      - Sköll and Hati (maybe as duel denizens)
      - A Harpy
      - a Manticore
      - a Sphinx,
      - Erinyes (Specifically Maniae),
      - Sun Wukong (Then again I think he might be a bit over powered)
      - Minotaur (cliché?)
      - Salamander (the breathing/living in fire kind).
      -Chimera (Enfield)
      - Pan and Dionysus
      - Charon

Guess it's time to play the elimination game then?

Also looking at our conversation I see for alchemization you have Prometheus in there already so it's just deciding who he goes to. Also Thief of Time sounds like someone that can freeze time for everyone and move really fast... hold on isn't there a Pratchett book like that where they slow down time to move really fast? And then there's the "wall" when they do that people hit if they go too far? I was originally thinking of Code Geass with the time stops but the Pratchett book works too.

Fuck it, it's been around 6 hours since I started this, no point in leaving this window open any longer, it's annoying how there isn't really any link in the denizens and the kids signs. Would make choosing them easier.

    • simskiller

Huh, I never knew that, so adding Chimera would be pretty logical.

    • simskiller

But yeah, looking at that site you gave me I have some denizen ideas: A Harpy, a Manticore, a Sphinx, Erinyes (Specifically Maniae), Sun Wukong (Then again I think he might be a bit over powered), I want to say a Minotaur but that seems to cliché, I just wanted a beast that could gorge someone by head butting them, a Salamander (the breathing/living in fire kind). If you add in Typhon you can also add in Chimera (Enfield), Pan and Dionysus are also a good choice to add.

These are just the few things that caught my interest and I find fascinating.

PS: Wow google spell check hates names of gods and mythological beasts.

      ...

My sleep cycle is already fucked, I'm on the night time awake half right now, 2 weeks from now it would be "normal" by being up during the day.

The worse thing is it's 2am I woke up an hour ago and I have to be up at 4pm so I can't sleep as I will over sleep. I'm on a weird 10-20-30 hour awake, 12-14-16 hour sleep cycle.

I don't know, if you need to be up drink some tea or coffee, though if you do that this late in the evening you'll be up all night.

    • simskiller

Sleep then? Oh wait, it's like 7 PM your time isn't it?

      ...

      Sleep then?

    • simskiller

Yeah, I had to look that when you asked that, and I was like "Nope not definitely not what I was thinking of."

    • simskiller

Thank you for that link, I've bookmarked it, it seems interesting judging by the list of articles. Also I never knew there was an incorrect way to think of Mandrakes, and homunculi

    • simskiller

Plant that kills people by screaming and the artificial/substitute life form sense.

    • simskiller

It's nice to see that we think of the same things.

But yeah, I don't know that many famous mythological creatures, I know of mythological species, but not any particular famous entities in that species.

Also I can't stop thinking of mandrakes and homunculi, now for some reason.

    • simskiller

And after looking up Moddey dhoo, if you can work in Fenrir or Cerberus, and maybe Sköll and Hati too. Maybe have them as duel denizens (Something I would actually imagine Sollux having).

    • simskiller

If there's any connection between the powers and the denizen, the naming scheme would make sense, for the most part I actually think the connect is between the kids elements and the denizen.

Also the denizens all seem to be named after mythological creatures/gods, and only ones I know off the top of my head are Norse, and Greek, and some Egyptian, but those are a bit of common knowledge.

I don't know if you can work in The Morrígan, that would be pretty cool. But then again it's only because of the í and the title of "the", makes it seem ominous.

    • simskiller

That would be interesting to write about, also to add, explain how there's no real "good vs evil" just because you oppose someone in a war or don't agree with them doesn't make them evil, they may have their own reasons. Everything is Grey.

Also the gauntlet idea is kinda neat, still thinking of their being a punching motion though, how I imagine it would work is, you do an over hand throw motion to grapple someone, pull back to bring them in, then go forward again to punch them in the face while the chain has slack, also have the chain winding in too to give extra speed to their body.

    • simskiller

Yeah, lashed about, able to wrap around people and pull them towards you to punch them in the face. Maybe have the chain links have spikes for added damage.

And that's an interesting story idea, makes me think of reclusive paladins that have been rejected from society.

Would you have Executioner's hunt other Executioners' that have sided the beasts they are supposed to hunt?

    • simskiller

You mean like a drifter that travels from place to place and does freelance exterminate work?

Also thought of a way for chainkind for your homestuck story, combine it with whipkind.

    • simskiller

Ahhh, if that's an issue, while our tribe has to figure it out, have other small civilizations figure it out, or not have that much knowledge, maybe slightly more then us; while in the bigger more sophisticated cities know about magic, and maybe having their society built around it (Non magical "low bloods" are looked down as slaves).

Also if your novel takes place 100 years in the future, that's enough time to justify people knowing more then our small tribe.

    • simskiller

Sorry for the long reply time, had D&D game going, also got distracted by other stuff.

So I don't really understand: Are you saying that the issue would be that if you did this the game would be too easy for us or too hard?

You could have the story take place in an alternative part of the world then what we would encounter.

    • simskiller

Oh yeah, that's kind of cool.

You got the backstory and history made out, the world fleshed out, so writing the worlds future is neat.

    • simskiller

No, not really, considering you have the backstory to everything that has happened up to the current point.

Unless you mean you want to make a novel out of our tribes adventures, then yeah, kinda odd seeing as we don't have that much done.

    • simskiller

Huh, hopefully he can help in the area's that I lacked.

    • simskiller

I'll just copy paste this over so I keep the list.

      -pistolkind

Thinking of something like a super soaker, but it spits acid instead... then again that might be supersoakerkind instead. Thinking of something that fires more then just conventional bullets, like maybe cotton candy instead.

"You'll shoot your eye out kid" - Red and white with an eyeball where the grip meets the barrel of the gun, maybe a revolver, does massive damage if you get someones eye.

      -penkind

wanted to say "Magic trick" but that's a pencil. How is this even a weapon? Maybe a clicky pen and a detonator combination? Thinking of saints row 2 now, lay down a bunch of "ink" then click the pen and EXPLOSIONS EVERYWHERE. (Aka the c4 from saints row 2)

      -chainkind

Thinking of how the chains were used in a clock work orange, or maybe the greasers. Also went through my comments to make sure this wasn't said, but combining this with blades, or making each link serrated, kind of like the tails in a cat of nine tails. Basically whip the chain then drag it back. But with the blade idea, the end links are pointed and stab the target.

      -knifekind

Beware butterknifes? ButterflyButterknife. Swissarmy breadknife. Stilettos are always good oooo combine stiletto knife with stiletto heel, face stab kick.

      -bladekind

Isn't this just a bigger version of knifekind? Bastard swords, great swords, great bastard sword, staffblade. Switchblades (this could probably also go under knife kind it's small enough). Maybe a sword that splits into two swords? A scythe, maybe call it Death's arm?

-powertoolkind - I call this one a 'Superkind' card, in that it covers all powertools - drill, saw, belt sander, electric screwdriver, etc., etc.

Electric toothbrush & Sander = "Don't forget to floss"

      -hammerkind

A hammer with 2 blunt ends, just spin it around.

      -polearmkind - specfically a naginata.

I had to google what it was, but I've seen it before. Combine it with a halberd?

      -axekind

War axes... combine it with a halberd? Do like the hammer idea and put a blade at each end of a pole and spin it?

      Lumberjacks friend...

      -coinkind

Screw the rules I have money.

    • simskiller

Yes. A very very badly drawn coin.

      Depends how it's bent.

I'm thinking it could land 3 ways ala crazy bones, you just need to remark the coin after it's bent. (This would be at a 90 degree bend instead of 45 degrees)

No wait thinking on it's 4 ways. If you can't visualize it I would have to draw a very mspaint picture.
