    • The End of the Holiday Season

So, Winter-een-mas is officially over and with visions of exploding body parts still fresh in my mind, I embark on the first leg of the 2007 year.

You may have noticed that I stopped doing a daily Winter-een-mas journal, explaining about the spirit of the genre that encompasses all 7 days of the holiday. The reason I stopped is because, to be honest, there aren't many people who look at my journals and it was more work than I was willing to do for so few on-lookers.

Besides, I couldn't find any games in most of the genres that I really felt like playing. The only racing game I want to play I don't have a steering wheel compatible with the PS2 and it's HORRIBLE to play with the analog sticks. Fighting games make Kyle want smash stuff - and I only have one fighting game, Soul Caliber 2 (with the exception of a few pirated Arcade Games). Also, I just haven't had time during the week to sit down and pay respects.

Oh well. So tonite I'll take down my ceremonial WTF PWNAGE tree - which should free up about 30 feet of space - and place all the game boxes back in their respective shelves. I hear tell there's a religion based on the holiday being thought up... hmmmm smiley8.gif

Day of the Spirit of First Person Shooters:

Ahh, one of my favorite genres! There's nothing like the adrenaline filled pulse of an itchy trigger finger squeezing out 360 rounds per minute through a machine gun as it gives a reaper-friendly hug to all sorts of twisted, foul demons or mercenaries unlucky enough to be standing in front of a health pack. Here's a few of the FPS games I've had fond memories of ultra-gore laced slug throwing firefights in:

      The legendary Doom:
      doom.jpg

The game that started it all:
      wolfenstein3d.jpg

The man all men fall short of:
      duke3d.jpg

The game responsible for thousands of soiled chairs:
      fear.jpg

Now I could go on forever, but I doubt anyone would have he patience to wait 12 years while this journal loads. Regardless, even if I didn't rip a fancy pic of the box art from this games, it doesn't make them anyless closer to my heart smiley1.gif :

      Half-Life
      Quake
      Heretic
      Blood
      Shadow Warrior
      Unreal
      Tribes
      Skynet
      SiN
      Prey
      Painkiller
      Far Cry

I own all the original boxes/cartridges for all the games I've listed - a few are decorating my Winter-een-mas tree. To worship the sleep-deprived avatar of FPS, I devoted a large chunk (if not all) of my Saturday to Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. (along with their expansions). How will you apease he who brings n00bs to their knees?

PS: Yesterday, to show faith to the brown clad, womenizer that is the sprit of platformers/adventures, I played Sonic Heroes and Mario Sunshine. Yes, I know I'm a day off smiley6.gif

The Day of platform and adventure games!

Alright, those astute celebrators would probably notice that I'm a day late - I have a valid excuse though! I had no idea what day of the month it was. Oh well, why not extend it a day into Februrary. Anyways, today (yesterday) is the day of Adventure and platform games. Some of the best and most successfull franchises in early gaming history came from these genres.

      Mario Brothers:

      Sonic the Hedgehog:

      Zork: Nemesis:

Those are a few that I found most memorable in the genres - yes, I've played them too, I even still have the boxes/cartridges smiley8.gif I'm probably forgetting a number of other good platformers/andventure games, feel free to mention them if I have!

Power hath returned! At approximately 3:20pm yesterday, the generator stop singing its melody of interal combustion and listened intently as the hum of about 7,000 watts of power rushed into our frozen suburban home - and immediately, we ran out of Kerosine.

      Damnit, it's cold!

My brother was approved as a apprentice journeyman Carpenter yesterday which should nail him a salery slightly above my own. Then again, I'm rather underpaid for the expertise required of this job (that will change shortly) - Not that I'm competing with my brother over money or anything... I'm excited he's finally getting back on his feet!

He's not going to drive my car! smiley6.gif

It's cold, I'm suffering from early stage hyperthermia from taking a cold shower and our power is out until possibly thursday morning. On top of that, I'm feeling terribly depressed but nobody gives a damn. Some people just have this innate ability to feel sorry for themselves and yet garner so much attention for it - I completely lack this ability, not that I probably want such an ability as pity is not the way to gain the respect of others.

Oh well, back to work - It helps keep my mind off things and more in reality smiley1.gif

PS: It is beautiful out here in Saratoga, thanks to a lovely glaze of frozen water coating the landscape smiley1.gif

I won BakaUltima's RedvsBluemas contest! Competition was fearce, there were many worthy competitors on the ballot. There was this one guy, me, he had a good one, almost thought he could swipe it from myself - who didn't do half bad either. But in the end, if I was the judge, I would have picked I, because let's face it: HE WAS THE ONLY ONE IN THE COMPETITION!

Oh well, I'm 25 mod points richer though - almost have enough mods to get that sweet set of gulf clubs... wait, I hate golf... <shrug> smiley1.gif

You know what really gets under my skin? My pet peeve?

It's the stupid n00btarded trolls at ESRI who think shoving 31 million line files in a single compressed shapefile is in anyway productive! I wish I was a fly on the wall of the conference room when the maximum wage prick was brainstorming that idea: "Hey guys check it: Let's take all the roads of the 50 states and shove them in an single compressed... that's right I said compressed, so it takes 8 years to draw the back road in east bumblefuck, file! See, it's genius! They can't open it in ArcView because it will try to render every single one of these lines. They can't cut off the single state than need because the program refreshes everytime they move the mouse 10 nanometers and they can't make their own address locators because it takes 56 years to create an index for a file that's 31 million records large! They get stuck using our high quality address locator which yeilds some random SQL script error (Error Code WTF: you forgot to drop the toilet seat when you were finished yesterday - can't join features) but manages to draw the points, which are basically ghosts because you CAN'T JOIN THEM OR SELECT THEM IN ANY DEMENSION! Lakka lakka lakka! Give me more cash so I can finish up my money house!"

It's so incredibly fucktarded! What the fuck am I going to do with a shapefile that renders all the god damned roads about 5,200 miles AWAY From the dataframe first!? "So you're looking at New York, eh? Well, I'm just gonna go ahead and render California first for ya. What? Fuck you too pal!"

... There, I feel a bit better smiley1.gif - although I could have spent the time more wisely... like staring at a damn green bar for 56 years.

<Insert half-wit statement about blog entries which is mildly entertaining to those with a severe calcium inbalance>

So the New Year has took off... and has already crash landed like flaming wad of crap from the toilets of a Boeing 747. I just got a call this morning informing me that my contract to CSCVC (the organization I was suppose to start working for this year) has been canceled. Apparently there was a budget concern and the position was not severe enough to warrent the price of the contract (well atleast it's good to know I'm worth a damn smiley1.gif )

I'm waiting for the call from god to tell me that I'm actually a women... That would atleast explain why for whatever fucked up reason, I seem to have more men romantically interested in me than women. (it's a long story...)

Oh well, atleast I can make a New Year's resolution to make it all better smiley1.gif I suppose I could stand to loose a few pounds too.

PS: I've been working on a webcomic with a bit of a twist. I'm currently writing some scripts for it and testing whether or not the REVOLUTIONARY new method I'm going to be using as artistic approach, would be efficient or not. If I do decide to go ahead with it, I'll post a few of them here for your amusement.

      Happy New Year's! smiley1.gif
