Long time, no journal, eh. It's been 3 and a half months since my last journal to you folks... so let's get an update.

So, I hit my 6th anniversary on RvB...to my awesome friends list (and a few others no longer around), thanks for a tonne of good times both online and in real life. I sincerely want to see all of you naked. Seriously.

I turned 28, had an awesome party, and Ele surprised my with cake. Now that I'm a sponsor again, I should probably put up a couple of pictures of the event. Actually, I will, because the party was fun, the cake was so rad, and I honestly lost track of how many drinks people bought for me, so it is nice to know that there a bunch of people willing to spend 5 bucks on me.

Last night, Ele and I celebrated our 5th anniversary. I have nothing to say other than it's been a (mostly) great 5 years, and I love her.

Hmmm... what else? Ahhh yes, I picked up a promotion at work a couple of months ago, and it;s nice to be on the hiring side, the firing side, and the fun stuff you have to deal with on a management level of the only Canadian location for an American company. We make more money than any other venue in the company's arsenal, and they just kind of leave us alone for the most part. I like that.

I have recently become addicted to buying hockey cards on eBay, and my promotion came just in time for me to spend some more money doing that. I'm not allowing myself to put in any new bids for a while, though. I should at least make an effort to keep this in check.

All in all, my life is awesome, and while I haven't been a sponsor in months, I don't know how all you guys are doing, but I'm rooting for you guys.

P.S. Ooh, almost forgot! I've got another anniversary coming up this summer. I'm going to be hosting my 5th RvBTO. AWESOME, eh.

Well hey folks. Long time, no journal from me, I know. I'd better make it good.
      mjpopcorn.gif

First things first, I'm not really good at coming up with journal titles, so the song currently playing will NOW be the title of my journals. Merely a cosmetic change, but it does provide an extra sentence, should my journals run long.

I have heard several times over the past few weeks from people at both work and play, that Ele and I are some sort of 'Marshal and Lily' kind of couple, and some people are hoping to have a relationship like ours. It's certainly a nice thing to think about, but the reason why our relationship is so awesome is because it works for us. We both put a good amount of work into making something we're both very comfortable with. I just wanted to say that... for no real reason whatsoever. I mean, it's not like Ele and I have our 5th anniversary coming up in the next few months.

First, though, I have my 6th anniversary on RvB, and my journal for that occasion will be much more... involving. I have a plan.

Saw The Social Network, and I have to admit, I really geeked out on the tilt-shift used during the regata scene. Tilt-shift is used to make things look really tiny by using a simple camera trick to shift perspective. The best example I've seen is here. Also, the movie was pretty rad, so check that out if you haven't already.

Some of you folks have noticed that RvBTO dates have already been announced; July 8th-10th, 2011. We're like Justin Timberlake, but instead of bringing sexy back, we're bringing Friday back. Only 264 days to save your cash. Also, if you ever wanted to know what the entire yellow loop on the subway looks like... here's a video.

I love Toronto and I do always enjoy getting a chance to show it off to visitors, so I'm hoping to see you guys next summer. Even you, Jason. Bitch.

I know I don't really spend much time on the site, other than the NHL thread, and, as such, I'm probably going to be doing a little culling of the friends list, if only to keep it more manageable when I do show up here. If you're actually reading this, you can relax, odds are that you've probably made it. Congrats on keeping my friends list attractive and talented... and sometimes both!

Now Playing - Good Day to Cross A River by Greg Giraldo

Most of you probably don't know the name Greg Giraldo. Maybe you've seen him on the comedy central roasts, caught a glimpse of him performing on Letterman or Conan. You might even know him from this past season of Last Comic Standing.

If that's all you know, then you're like most of the general public, and you guys don't know that he was one of the smartest comics working. He was so smart, talented, funny, and just a great guy. Greg Giraldo was a comic's comic, and, in my mind, one of the funniest people on the planet.

He died yesterday at the age of 44 of an accidental prescription drug overdose.

This one is kind of tough for me, because Greg Giraldo was personally an awesome guy to me. We first met in 2002 when I was in New York for the New York City Underground Comedy Festival, and Greg, while he hated most of the CollegeHumor 'douchecomics' (his words, not mine), actually liked me and took the chance to show me around NYC for a day.

I was 19, had been performing for almost a year and a half at the time, and this guy was in his mid 30's, who was a Harvard educated lawyer before he went into stand up, took the time out of his schedule to take me to a couple of his sets around New York. I wish I could say that the first really cool experience I had with meeting a bigger comic than myself was with a Canadian comic... but it wasn't.

I have no idea what it was about my act at the time, or my attitude towards the business that made him extend a hand to me, but if I had met more people like Greg, I probably would have stayed in the business much longer than I ultimately did.

We bumped into each other a couple of times over the next three years, and he took the time to catch my work and offer a word or two of constructive criticism, and always told me to fuck off if I tried the same. I expected nothing less than that.

Greg... thank you, for everything. I was going to end with something more poignant, but Patton Oswalt's tweet says it all; If there's a heaven then Einstein, Asimov, Voltaire and Anne Frank are getting the sh-- roasted out of 'em tonight.

Well hi there everyone, we're having a little problem here at home, and I'm hoping someone on my talented, attractive friends list can help.

Our laptop (HP Pavilion dv6700) seems to have something wrong. The computer will turn on for a brief moment, then immediately turn itself off. It will do this whether we have the battery in the laptop or not, so we have, at least ruled the battery as a source of the problem.

We can hear the fan starting, the hard drive begin to spin, and then... well then the computer shuts down.

If you guys know anything about this kind of problem, or if my Toronto people can recommend a decent repair place, it would be most welcome.

Now Playing - Gone Man by Eels

Well folks, it's been a while since you had a journal from me. I was beginning to think that I had dropped off the face of the earth.

Rest assured, though, I'm doing well, just pretty busy with my work schedule. I've talked to some of you about what I do, but most of you just know that I work 'at the CN Tower'. Still others think that I'm still a tour guide... but that is so 2009, which I can assure you, good people of RvB, that is SO Two-Thousand-And-Late.

Every tourist coming to the CN Tower is offered the chance to take a souvenir green screen picture. I am the one offering that picture, and sometimes I can be the one taking the picture. This can mean that, on any given day, I interact with ALMOST ALL of the tourists coming in to the CN Tower, or the 360 Restaurant (the rotating restaurant at the top of the tower). It's actually a simple job that even a trained monkey could do, but since they have a knack for feces-throwing, it falls to me instead.

I'm actually really good at it, because really, 'crazy good people skills' remain my only solid marketable skill. That's right, I make a living with my mouth.

It's a job that keeps me pretty busy, and even though I've only been there a couple of months, I'm already one of the main trainers for the new people that come in. This is a usual pattern with me, because I generally have both the skills and maturity to do my job well, then teach others how to do the same.

I want to thank all of you folks in your interest in the Javaheads CoffeeCast (episodes here!) featuring Microbe and I, but we are on a little hiatus at the moment to work on other projects, some of which will be coming to a computer screen near you, some of which aren't even RvBTO related!

That's right, we're already working on some things for next year, because frankly, it was a huge rush to watch you guys see our kick ass opening video and be in (almost) the same room. It's quite different from doing stand up comedy, because there's not the instant feedback, which made things a little more nerve wracking, and ultimately more exhilarating when you guys dug it.

This month is going to be pretty crazy, too. in September, I have one of my favourite bands coming to town for a show! Eels will be back in town, and crazy old E has released 3 (!!) albums in the last 18 months, and there are a bunch of songs I'm looking forward to seeing live. We also have Anthony Bourdain coming in to Toronto doing a little talk and Q and A session at Massey Hall, and I will be buying tickets for that tomorrow after work. We've also got a wedding coming up the last weekend of September, so Ele and I will get all dolled up and have some fun there.

This is a rather long journal from me, so I'm just wishing all you guys the best, and a sincere thank you to my friends list for getting even more attractive since RvBTO (I'm looking at you, SocialistYam).

If there's interest, I might make my next journal a Question Journal... but right now I'm too enthralled by Tom's video journals and shiny head to think that far into the future.

Now Playing - MANthem by the Bouncing Souls

So you've been waiting for an RvBTO journal from me, eh? Here it is!

For my views on hosting RvBTO1, RvBTO2, and my hosting hat trick at RvBTO3, click on those links, folks.

First and foremost, thank you all for coming from wherever you are in the world, as much as this thing is about RvB, it's about the community that has gathered around to drink RoosterTeeth brand kool-aid*, and I think it's fair to say we all had a good sip or two of the stuff again over the weekend, and it is a heady brew.

I think it's fair for me to say that this year was my favourite RvBTO since the first one, and that is really all thanks to our attendees. You want to know why the room on Saturday was so hot? WE DIDN'T THINK THAT MANY OF YOU WOULD SHOW! We planned for 100-115 to show up, and, while I'm not sure of the final numbers, we beat that number by at least 50.

Right before Joe opened the show with his speech and opening video, I took a last quick walk through the room. Before I left the room to watch the opening and get ready for the walk in with Barbara, I walked back to the merch table and found the only RvBTO staffer in sight and pointed to my arm. I smiled at Lukie and showed her the goosebumps that had formed just at the sheer excitement and expectation in the room.

For those of you who have met me only recently, I spent more than 4 years in stand up comedy in my younger days, and got to travel and do shows all over Canada and a couple of festivals in the States, too. Would you like to know how many times I got goosebumps before going in front of a crowd? Less than half a dozen, and we can now add RvBTO 6 to that list.

I do need to apologize that I couldn't make myself more available during the weekend, though. For most of you, RvBTO was a fun weekend to relax and hangout with friends, but for me, with my work schedule, RvBTO was like being on a Wednesday, as I had to work two days before and after. I finally have my day off today to sleep, do some laundry and just mellow out easy.

I loved working with Barbara. She's awesome, and one of the people I really didn't know all that well until about a year ago. As it turns out, we are able to bounce off each other really well, and I don't think I've worked with anyone where no rehearsal was required. We had to talk about when certain things would be mentioned, but almost everything we did just came out of a 30 second discussion beforehand. If they'll have us back, I would happily call her a c**t anytime, anywhere.

To all the staff who worked their ass off, any accolades and appreciation I might get should go your way. Read about them here. Last but not least to Ele, I love you sweetie, and try not to kick the shit out of me for at least 11 months.

Well thanks you all for attending, we hope to see you again next year.

Thinking of next year, though, we are always looking to improve, and while we may not do anything about your suggestions, we will listen to them, if nothing else.

Personally, I'd like you guys to be as critical as possible, and really let us know what you think we could have done better.

Please note; NO RVBTO STAFF WILL RESPOND TO YOUR ISSUES HERE. This is just a place to let us know what we got wrong and what we got right.

So the new job is working out well, I spent a full day with one of my trainers just quoting Futurama and NewsRadio, so it's fair to say that I dig the people I'm working with. Plus, I do enjoy working at the CN Tower, it's just a decent place to be.

I'm damn glad to have the weekend off, though. With all the fencing and protests, downtown Toronto isn't exactly the best place to be. Luckily I'm heading to Hamilton tomorrow for what should be an awesome wedding.

Getting tired of whatever game you're currently playing? Then I can only recommend Privates. This game looks awesome and educational (video might be slightly NSFW, but only if you work in a really uptight place). I think this video makes up for the fact that I don't have a music video for you.

      Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 18) --

MY favorite sluts are Aquarius. Why? Because if you don't expect anything in return, you won't be disappointed. Sounds easy, huh? They will get under your skin though, so beware. It's easy to be hurt by an Aquarius because they don't want you to know what they are thinking. If they are silent but you are in the room with them...chances are they are in heavy thought. But don't worry, chances are they are thinking about you...and fifteen other things. Water bearers look at sex like it is a form of recess. They can turn you on by simply walking in the room. They are the Rain Man of the Zodiac. They give too much of themselves to others that don't give a shit...then get shy to those that care about them.
      Go figure.
They like kinky. They are easy going. To them, it's a learning experience. Male Aquarians like to tease and live life in a fantasy world. Female Aquarians can't masturbate enough...Males never get the chance to masturbate because everybody wants a piece of them. They like their ankles nibbled. They love back massages. Their ultimate adventure is the "But we might get caught" game.
They will fuck wherever they run the risk of being seen or found by another lover. Don't expect faithfulness from these creatures...it's just not in their DNA. They are open minded to the point that anything shiny will derail their train of thought. Fucking while standing or leaning is a plus here. Fuck with their mind and they will follow you anywhere. They enjoy being fucked in groups of three. Think being Jack Nicholson in bed with the three Witches of Eastwick? This is a Aquarian dream. They need you to make the first move. Not to be dominated. But to bring them back to earth now and again for a little physical funtime. They get lost in the clouds a lot. Don't derail from your personal pleasure course, however, otherwise you will be just talking to them all night. which can be stimulating just as well too. Beware! They are the flirts and teases from HELL! Never take one on a trip to a Home Depot when you are both horny. This can lead to nasty things.

Oh noes! My PMs are being possessed by the spirit of Ivan the Mildly Disinterested!

My message was just that I can't tell from the RvB website where the event actually is taking place. I will be driving in with Lauren on Saturday morning and leaving Sunday, and I wanted to make hotel reservations. Etc. Just wanted a street address of the event and any other places that might be important that weekend.

Also, I had a mildly witty closing line:

That is the scariest B movie ever made. I still freak out when James Whitmore (the police officer) gets cut in half by the giant snapping mandibles!

Meerkats are so sweet! I watched a special on animal planet where this guy pretty much lived with one family for years. They would play under his legs and curl up with him. They're also super bad ass. One of the babies was bitten by a puff adder, a snake whose venom could kill a full grown man, and survived. They eat scorpion tails without so much as getting sick. Awesome little creatures.

Elephant shrews are pretty awesome too. They pretty much don't fear predators, because their legs are so long they know they can outrun anyone who tries to catch them. They also mate for life and have cute little trunk like noses.

There's a few theories that argue that if we did eventually discover time travel then what happens to the paradox that would be created (or, where's the time travellers)?

      1. Bungled Theory (not a fan of this one, kinda dumb)
That regardless of how you try to reshape history, something always happens to avert your attempts to change it. So some of the random and unforeseen things that happen in our present were attempts from our future trying to change their past (I deserve mad props from the grammar community for tieing together the multiple tenses required to use past/present/future like that ^_^).
      2. Observer Theory (it's a pretty good one)
We can only project into the future by approaching the speed of light. If we break the speed of light, we travel back but are only observers to the events that have occurred. So basically, time travel would be more like watching a dvd. You can play, rewind and fast forward events but you can't change what's on the disk.
      3. Destruction Theory (editing this one in, forgot to mention it)
Perhaps there was a global catastrophe in our future such as the sun collapsing, meteor destroying us all, etc before we were able to leap back in time. Well, at least now I know maybe not to invest in time travel companies when they start to spring up if I'm not going to be able to collect on the stock revenues.
      4. Parallel Theory (still vague for me, but it sounds cool)
Piercing into the past causes a parallel universe to ours to be created where the timeline can be affected but has no bearing on the original timeline. This would mean that any changes in your relative time state might cause you to never be able to go back to the original dimension you began on. Think Sliders. I miss that show. Anyways, I think Hawkings or someone psychosmart like that mentioned something about how it one theory may be that the big bang that created us might just have been us being created on a parallel universe.

And that's how you get time travel without paradox. Or maybe it does create paradox. I'll get on creating a BHD, a starship and a crew to man it to find out for ourselves. Who knows, maybe I'll charter a way to create a parallel universe solely for RvB. Then I can host RvB:Continuum2010 there!

Champion of Canada, Hero of the North, I salute you. I hope everything is going well up there and that you have kept the infamous Legion of Infernal Bears at bay. I know how much havoc they incur on Canada every year. Hope that you have a great year and that it's all good things ahead

      Happy 2006

...and yeah, the 18-20 vs 35-45 thing always did seem a little odd to me. Maybe the idea was that if you keep the older women in the tribe horny, they will stick around and help with child rearing so the younger women can be reproducing as quickly as possible. And you know how it is when you get back from a long day at the mastadon hunt. You want some action! All the young women are 8 months pregnant and crabby, so you go for the more mature woman to blow off a little caveman steam.

There must be an evolutionary reason for it. I believe too much in the "selfish gene" to believe otherwise....

HIS teeth look funny? Look at MY teeth! This is what happens when beautiful people (yes, I count myself as one) are forced to take pictures in front of a puke green backdrop while being blinded by photographic lights when they hardly have had any sleep and are forced to stand because the bodyguards stole the chairs. I think I should rename this picture "Look how nice our gums look!" In fact, I will do that right now!

Look how nice I look only 5 minutes beforehand:

Also check out the big gun. I just love the feeling of a Big Nice Gun in my hand. Ya know?

Your comment on how children learn math in school, which you wrotein my journal was Hilarious. I would have given you more mods but I only had four to give. I wish there were trick for the other things you mentioned, I hope to discover them soon. It will make teaching much easier.

Schroedingers Kittens eh? Quantum physics turned me onto lingustics (as quantum physics is ultimately an issue of language and our scale of experience through which we are capable of expressing our reality). I am digging this text right now.

I was right! It was Phil LaMarr! The "I still get way more sex..." line is a different hoedown.

      Greg Proops:
I love to sing like Colin, I really really do.
I really really really really really really do!
And when I sing like Colin, it makes me have great joy,
Because I... arrghh! (cracks up and does Colin's dinosaur impression)

      Phil LaMarr:
Well there is a man they call the king of Whose Line,
His soul is on fire, and his mind is very fine.
He does a hoedown, and he very rarely sucks,
'Cause he is one talented follicly challenged Canuck!

      Colin Mochrie:
Everybody's having fun, they're singing all about me.
Let's all laugh along with them, ha ha ha hee hee.
It really is amusing, can't you all see,
Look at them, look at them, of me they're making a Mochrie!

      Ryan Stiles:
You've got to love Colin, love him to the end,
I have to admit that he is my best friend.
I would not lie to you, I guess it is no jive,
Anyway you look at it he's still got more hair than Clive!

It's official - on Saturday, February 26 (this upcoming saturday), Red vs Blue will be shown to a large audience in Toronto. Admission will be $10 at the door:

The event will be taking place at The Hive, on the second floor of the Stephen E. Quinlan (SEQ) building on the campus of York University. For those who attend York U, it's the Seneca College building. The address of the building is 70 The Pond Rd. Here's a map. To get there by car, find the intersection of Keele and Steeles and go south. The second traffic light is The Pond Rd. Turn right there. You will come upon a traffic light on The Pond Rd., and on the NW corner of that intersection will be the SEQ building. It has lots of panes of glass on the front, and interesting architecture. At the north end of the building is the cafeteria, and directly above the cafeteria is The Hive.

There are parking lots dotted all over the campus. If you continue down The Pond Rd. you'll come across a pay-by-hour lot on the left. The gates go up at 10:30pm, so if you stay for all that time you should be able to get out for free. If they keep the gates down for some reason, though, the daily max is something like $15.00. If you don't want to risk all that, you can continue along the road and hang a left, and on the right will be a pay-for-the-day lot which is something like $8.00 for the day (don't quote me on that). If you turn right at the light instead of going straight, you'll see parking lots on either side of you all around the campus. Some are pay lots, some are permit-only.

If you want to park for free guaranteed, then as you're coming down from Steeles and Keele you turn left at the first traffic light. Keep driving down that road, and on the other side of the stop sign you'll see a stretch of road on which you can park legally. That's where I'll be. It's about a ten minute walk from the venue, but no dollars is a good price for parking in Toronto. To get to The Hive from there, you walk back toward and past Keele and turn left as you reach the bus loop. You'll walk past a building under construction on the right, and once you pass it you'll be staring at the SEQ building from its ugly backside. Hang a right and you'll be able to enter right at the cafeteria.

The doors will open at 2:00pm. The bar will be open to serve non-alcoholic beverages, and we have the place reserved until 10:00pm. Both seasons of Red vs Blue will be shown on DVD, and if someone decides to burn season 3 thus far to DVD then we can watch that too. There will probably be a Q&A period with the Rooster Teeth lads, and everyone is sure to have a good time.

So go tell your friends, take a road trip, hijack a plane, do whatever it takes to be here for this event. Seating is limited, and will be provided on a first come, first served basis. If we run out of chairs, we'll open up standing room. If we run out of standing room, we'll hire a midget to juggle chainsaws or something, I don't know. The point is you need to be at The Hive on Saturday at 2:00pm, to be with your fellow Red vs Blue-ites and meet the staff.

I'll see you there. Tell Your Friends!
