So I've been thinking about doing for quite a few months now, but wasn't sure. With my budget constraints the way they've been I really haven't had the cash to go purchase any video games, with the exception of Grand Theft Auto thanks to the economic stimulus check GW sent me.

Today though I saw that they had a trial offer for the first month for 5.95. Ok, no big deal, except they also give you 400 MS points, that's what tipped the scales for me. The way I figure it, for $16 a month I can play all the games I want and not have to buy any and I'll be able to play games that I was kinda hesitant to buy because I wasn't sure I'd like them.

      Anyone else have Gamefly?

Getting the One Man Army and Under the Radar achievements are pretty easy and can easily be done at the same time. To start go to the airport and steal the helicopter, or if you're to the point where the helitour is available steal one of their helicopters and then fly to western part of the city to get a 6 star wanted level and then proceed to start flying under the bridges that cross the water ways of Liberty city. The nice part about the under the radar achievement is that the bridges you haven't flown under will be shown on the radar and map after you fly under one of them. While doing this it's extremely easy to avoid the cops, even the police helicopters. I even took out one of the police helicopters with the tour chopper by hitting the police choppers tail rotor with my main rotor, it basically cut off the tail of the police chopper.

Anyone have any tips for easy GTA IV achievements?

After my console got the RROD Sarah said she would buy me a new one since our anniversary was coming up next month and it's something we both use. And I told her I could sell the old one on ebay once it got back from Microsoft. So we went to Target, she opened up a charge card there and got ten percent off the xbox. So on a whim we went over to Petsmart to see if they were doing an adoption drive or anything, sure enough they were. Well we ended up leaving with this little girl...

      P4200120.jpg

      P4200115.jpg

She's part Boston Terrier, part Dachshund. She's a year and a half old, energetic(apparently she was too energetic for her original owners, that why she was at the rescue), housebroken and very cuddly.

We're technically doing a week long temporary foster care, but things are looking pretty good for us keeping her. The only thing we're still worried about is the interaction with the cat. The cat has been in hiding pretty much ever since we brought the dog home yesterday. So we're not sure how that's gonna work out yet.

It finally happened to my console.

I guess I can't complain too much though. My console is one of the first. It survived this long. Unfortunately since it is one of the first, it's no longer under warranty.

My girlfriend has volunteered to buy me a new one though.

I'll be putting the old one on ebay soon after I see about what I can get for it.

Well I felt my first earthquake last night.

It really just felt like someone was moving around in the bed for an extended period of time. It was however enough to knock over a picture frame on one of the bookshelves. Kinda eerie. Couldn't fall back to sleep for a little while.

Edit: We just had a 4.5 aftershock about an hour or so ago. Here's the local story.

So I got Rockband. I succumbed to the phenomena. It's friggin awesome though.

I played it when I was back home a few weeks ago. My brother got it and a couple of our friends came over to play and we played for hours. It was a lot of fun and it's a good thing to play over XBL. So we're gonna try rocking out this weekend. I just got the game, not the whole bundle. I got a sealed copy off ebay for less than $40 shipped.

My girlfriend and I were playing tonight just doing the singing. She's a hell of a lot better than me, you know, mostly cause she can sing.

And by the way, I'm still alive is awesome!

Quote taken from the news page on CAD.

Now, onto other things. You're probably asking yourself... "Ethan MacManus: Space Archaeologist?"

When I was a kid I used to love this book series called 'Choose Your Own Adventure'. They were gamebooks written in the 2nd person that allowed you to make decisions throughout that determined the course of the story and the ending you got. I was addicted to the things for a while. In high school I made a couple of attempts at writing my own versions.

For a while now I've wanted to try something similar with the comic strip, so that's what I'm going to do now. I kept putting it off and putting it off, so I'm just going to do it before I push it off again. I have a wedding/pregnancy storyline to get back to, so it's now or much later.

The premise is this: Think of the setting as a cross between Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but starring an idiot. Periodically during this story, Ethan will be faced with a choice of what to do next. There will be a few options, and you, the readers, will be able to vote for which option you want, effectively determining the course of the story. The choices will come every other or every couple of comics, so that I have a chance to set up the next set of choices. Voting will take place for 24 hours after the comic is released, after which I will draw the next comic in the story based on the majority vote.

I don't know if this will work. It may work splendidly, or it may fail miserably. Hopefully either way it will be entertaining. In the old CYOA books, you could make decisions that would end with the death of your character, and I'm going to keep that spirit alive here. If Ethan MacManus: Space Archaeologist survives, and this little experiment works, we'll do it again sometime, with an 'issue 2'. If he dies but the experiment works, we'll do it again sometime, but maybe with Ethan MacManus: Archmage or any of the other dozens of roles I can toss him into. If the experiment fails, it's probably safe to say I won't try it again. But who knows, I'm pretty stubborn.

So anyway, that's the plan. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens.

I too loved those books as a kid! This could be awesome! This is just one of the reasons I love CAD.

Firefox is working fine now. I have no idea.

Anyway. In other news I took a different retail job. This time I'm selling luggage. It's an ok job. It's better than Home Depot. The pay is the same, but I've got full time hours and I'm not having to get up at 4 in the morning. And I'm taking a key holders position after this week, so I'll be making a little more and possibly setting myself up for an assistant managers position if the assistant right now, who will be the acting store manager after this week, takes another job somewhere else, which he is trying to do. In that case it'll mean more money. Regardless it's a pretty simple job, the shit is easy to sell and once the store manager leaves after this week it'll be a very nice retail environment. My only gripe is that I have to wear a damn tie. It's been a kinda good thing though since now I actually know how to tie a tie now. Small victories.

I'm also gonna start looking at going back to school. I really don't have a choice I think. Unless I can actually find a job that will take me without a masters or 3-5 years experience. Ugh, a college education ain't what it used to be. Guess I'm just gonna have to put myself in debt to make more money.

Slight edit: On the firefox front, I was checking out plug-ins after firefox decided to play nice again and found one that is friggin awesome! It's called ad-block plus. It's friggin fantastic. It blocks all the ads on webpages so they load a hell of a lot quicker and I don't have to see those damn annoying apple ads on Engadget.com anymore!

PS3 does suck, so badly. Wii is ok, not great. Xbox 360... is on the god level, except that whole flaming red tit of death thing with the three red lights. Maybe we'll have a truly perfect console in the next generation.

All yes. I killed all the trash and hobos, went back to James Filth and got the token, went to Pelican Bay and bought the gear with the token and took it back to Ann-Claire. I've talked to Gerhard, so I have his mission, but the good Doctor Whimple won't say anything other than "criminal injunction!" when I try to talk to him - and Filth just wants to sing now. Unless I'm missing an enemy somewhere, I don't know what the hell to do anymore.

    • TheAlbacor

I copied a lot of this one

      youtube.com/watch?v=FbYXV0UivpM

Except instead of ducking to the right in the 2nd room with a lot of them, I dodged behind the chairs to the left. I didn't shoot any of them in the last long hallway, I flash-banged them so I could keep my gun reloaded, then shot the last 3 around the corners without snapping or anything just before the VIP. Then you can jump closer to the VIP during the slowed down time to get a better shot.

    • TheAlbacor

Well, there ya go! I barely made it using that, so maybe you need it. I didn't really use it on Mile High Club though... I sprinted past about 10 enemies who I flash-banged.

    • TheAlbacor

The squadron record is tough. I managed to do it by using the "snap to" ability with the left trigger. Otherwise I'd have been fucked. It's actually pretty good training for Mile High Club.

thanks for the comment, man. i'm voting McCain as well, of course. I actually think he's the only choice this time, though i guess if Obama won, i wouldn't be THAT disgusted.

I just wish i knew more about the man.
Are there any candidates for a running mate for McCain as of yet? I can't even imagine him running with anyone yet, though i secretly dream of a ticket of him and Guilliani, though i know it probably couldnt' physically happen :(

    • TheAlbacor

And there are many many many examples of that. I think at least part of it is that many people nowadays are just old versions of children. They're for whatever until shit his the fan and then they just want to bitch because they were too stupid to look around for themselves in the first place.

    • TheAlbacor

True. Unless the trees were overhanging his property (and depending on the laws regarding that) he's mostly to blame. Then again, it wouldn't be right regardless of solar panels, to allow neighbors to plant trees that put a lot of shade on another's property. What if they bought that property because of the lack of shade?

    • TheAlbacor

I know, but that's what I'd have ordered if I was the judge. The other guy was dumb enough to put his panels on the side where big ass trees were going to grow...

He could at least pay the price for them to plant new trees. Old trees are more expensive...

I just bought a tv tuner card for the kids pc, it should arrive on Monday. I got them a 19" monitor at xmas plus a 320gig hardrive, so they should be good to go some time next week tvwise.

Windows media center would be nice but, I haven't got a hacked version, nor does any of my mates. Plus 9down.com is blocked at work so I can't check if the have it atm.

If it can be got it will be by torrent (a quick search found it easy)

I'm getting the PS3 for the BluRay player pretty much. I hate Sony as much as the next guy, but if BluRay wins the format war, I want the best player on the market. By Best I mean that it gets all the BluRay standard updates and doesn't instantly become a door stop the next month when there is an update.

      MJavatarWM_Christmas.jpg

      Luke 2:1-20

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.â€Â
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“ Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!â€Â

So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.†And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. Now when they had seen Him, they made widely[d] known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
